Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: A secure perimeter of no less than 1 kilometer is to be established along the coast of ████, Maine. Video surveillance is to be run at all times. All instances of SCP-XXXX are to be reported and monitored. If SCP-XXXX is ever to drift too close to the perimeter, a team is to be sent to prevent it from coming into public contact. Under no circumstance are personnel to allow themselves to be completely submerged within SCP-XXXX

Description: SCP-XXXX is a phenomenon that occurs at random intervals off the coast of ████, Maine. Typically between 1 to 5 times a month, they appear as black spheres that have no reflection and absorb almost all light. They and act as bubbles that will move and drift with their surroundings. They can vary in size from a few centimeters in diameter to the size of several full grown humans.

Testing has concluded that the inside of SCP-XXXX is pure water. The phenomenon can last anywhere from minutes to hours. After the phenomenon has ended, the black material that covers the sphere will burst. This restores normal gravity to the water and it will fall back down to the ground. The water demonstrates no anomalous properties.

The black material has been observed to have no physical properties. Objects can freely pass through it without being interrupted. It is still unknown how SCP-XXXX forms. Several theories have been presented, ranging from manifestation from thin air to being created from the ocean. Research is still ongoing.

Test Logs:

Experiment-1: A single sponge is put inside of SCP-XXXX, the sponge is pulled back out now filled with water. The water demonstrates no anomalous properties.

Experiment-2: A waterproof camera with flash is put inside SCP-XXXX. Several pictures are taken. There appears to be nothing but water inside of SCP-XXXX

Experiment-3: A hose is put inside of SCP-XXXX. Researchers pump water directly into SCP-XXXX. SCP-XXXX grows to about twice its size and burst. No anomalous properties are observed.

Addendum: D-class testing log 1

Date: 02/03/1997

Conducted by: Researcher ████

Foreword: D-3527 is given a dive suit with a built-in radio to communicate with the researcher. Suit comes equipped with a rebreather and a helmet mounted LED.

Begin log

Researcher ████: D-3527, I want you to stick your head into SCP-XXXX and tell me what you see.

D-3527: Uh… alright.

(D-3527 hesitates for a second, then slowly submerges his head)

D-3527: It’s really dark, I can’t see anything.

Researcher ████: Flip your helmet light on, tell me if you notice anything.

(D-3527 submerges his upper body within SCP-XXXX)

D-3527: I can see myself and that’s it. Nothing in here but me. The light is really dim.

Researcher ████: Noted. Alright D-3527, I want you to try climbing inside. Try to completely submerge yourself.

(D-3527 squats down and pushes himself into SCP-XXXX)

D-3527: Whoa this is kind of cool, feels like I’m swimming. Feels kind of weird though.

Researcher ████: Explain.

D-3527: I’m not sure, I get a sort of odd feeling that I’m-

(Radio interference is heard and D-3527 cuts out)

Researcher ████: D-3527 you cut out, everything alright in there?

(there’s a 5 second pause and SCP-XXXX bursts, revealing nothing but water)

Researcher ████: D-3527 can you hear me? What happened? Are you ok?

(there’s a 10 second pause, all radio communication ceases. D-3527 is presumed dead)

D-class personnel are no longer authorized to be used in the testing of SCP-XXXX. Test is marked as concluded.

01/24/2005: approximately 8 years after test was concluded, radio communication was picked up from D-3527

(Sounds of splashing water is heard and subject is heard screaming)

D-3527: What the fuck! What happened? Hey are you still there? Anyone? Uh, it’s dark. I can’t see anything. My light won’t work. Well its on but I can’t see anything. It’s really dim. ████ are you there? Please? It's wet and the water is up to my knees. I lost my rebreather but the suit is keeping me dry.

(there’s a several minute pause)

D-3527: It’s like light just doesn't work here, this isn’t right. I want to go home. Fuckin come on man pick up.

(subject is heard moving, heavy breathing and more sounds of splashing water)

D-3527: It feels like I’m being watched, please for the love of god. Anyone there? Anyone at all? Fuck its slippery as shit. I think I cut my leg.

(subject is heard running)

D-3527: Shit, I cut my arm bad… (there's a long pause) wait I thought I had cut my leg. Or was it my leg? No, no wait. No, I’m bleeding bad… like really bad. I can barely see, where’s the blood coming from? I think it’s my blood. Yea, that's my blood. Well… no no no. I don’t… know?

(subject is heard hitting the ground, sounds of water continue)

D-3527: Oh god. Oh fuck what the fuck… Good fucking lord why me. It’s fucking everywhere.

(subject is heard shouting for a brief moment, sounds of struggle continue)

D-3527: The blood… it’s… shit man.

(radio static increases and a loud commotion is heard, D-3527 cuts out)

D-3527 is now classified as dead. Continued researched on SCP-XXXX is currently pending.

Incident Report XXXX-01: 5/07/2007, 2 years after radio communication was established with D-3527. Video surveillance picked up movement from SCP-XXXX. Containment procedures continued as normal until Dr. ██████ observed SCP-XXXX it was not the normal shade of black. It was a dark shade of red instead. It still retained its light absorbing properties and behaved as all other instances had. As a precaution, a mobile task force was sent immediately.

A defensive perimeter was set up around SCP-XXXX. It behaved as normally for the next 2 and a half hours, then burst. A thick black substance was observed. It splattered on the ground, revealing an outline of something human-like. Although badly deformed, DNA analysis confirms the body to belong to D-3527. The black substance was a mix unknown biological matter, water and blood (some belonging to D-3527 and some of unknown origin).

The substance did not demonstrate any anomalous properties and posed no known health hazard. Samples were taken and stored. The rest was incinerated.
