SCP-XXXX, prior to containment.

Object #: XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained in a 3m x 3m x 2m cell inside of Temporary Site-██, suited with an air conditioner. An airtight door is to be locked at all times, with one (1) security guard stationed ouside of SCP-XXXX. All on-site personnel are to report for monthly health checks for any signs of SCP-XXXX's poison. Testing must be authorised by personnel clearance 3 or higher, and must be done under the supervision of 2 security personnel. As of 03/02/██, Testing on SCP-XXXX is prohibited.

All personnel working in Site-██ are not to be married, and must not be told of a family member's death until being transferred to another Site.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a Saguaro Cactus (Carnegiea gigantea), located ██km north of S████, Mexico. It's height is 185cm. The pricks on it are larger than average for this type of cactus, and are coated in an unknown poisonous liquid. Testing has revealed that this liquid is what keeps SCP-XXXX hydrated.

SCP-XXXX contains a cognitohazard affecting organisms who view it up close. Each individual who views it will see it as a deceased relative or spouse, and the viewer, hereby referred to as SCP-XXXX-1, will attempt to communicate with it, with varying levels of success. While test subjects have been seen talking to it effectively, other individuals who view the cactus at this time will not see, nor hear, any changes to SCP-XXXX. SCP-XXXX-1 will only communicate to SCP-XXXX during the encounter. SCP-XXXX-1 will attempt to get close to SCP-XXXX, and will do anything necessary to reach it, often turning to violence. If SCP-XXXX-1 is able to reach SCP-XXXX, it will offfer a hug to them. If SCP-XXXX-1 accepts the hug, SCP-XXXX's anomalous properties will cease, and the cactus will return to it's original state, poisoning the subject. Subject is, on average, announced deceased within 24 hours.

While this effect can be countered by removing SCP-XXXX-1 from the area, amnestics are authorised and more commonly used, as they are able both to remove SCP-XXXX's cognito effects and prevent attempts by the subject to attempt escape back to SCP-XXXX. These effects will not occur when seeing SCP-XXXX through photographs, recordings or illustrations, or if the viewer has no deceased relatives.

Addendum XXXX-01
SCP-XXXX was first reported on 11/10/8█ by a young couple on a trip to Mexico. The woman, Julia Wensley, informed the police of her husband, who had "ran into it". Agent D██████ reported the anomaly to the foundation, who removed the police force and successfully contained SCP-XXXX.

Incident XXXX-01:
On 09/18/██, SCP-XXXX began excreting an unknown poisonous liquid. all personnel were informed to temporarily move off-site while MTF-Gamma 19 arrived. SCP-XXXX successfully removed the poisonous liquids. no casualties were reported during the incident.
