SCP XXXX (dequinox)

SCP XXXX

OBJECT CLASS: Euclid

SPECIAL CONTAINMENT PROCEDURES:

SCP XXXX is to be kept in cylindrical vacuum chamber constructed from 25 mm thick aluminum walls, which is to include three viewports made from polycarbonate plastic 40 mm thick. The interior
surfaces of the chamber, with the exception of the viewports, are to be entirely lined with [REDACTED]-brand viscoelastic polymeric impact-dampening material 60 mm thick.

The vacuum chamber is to be contained in an appropriately-sized concrete containment cell constructed to be resistant to seismic activity, and must have all interior surfaces lined with the same damping material listed above. The cell must be kept dark at all times, excepting when staff must enter the area for routine maintenance checks or approved experimentation. Illumination is to be supplied via low-end visible spectrum (700nm or less) LED lamps, and the view ports on the vacuum chamber must be covered unless required for an applicable experiment.

SCP XXXX is to be supported in the geometric center of the vacuum chamber via four friction-less gas-bearings ground with concave spherical profile to match the object's outer surface diameter. The gas bearings are to be situated around SCP XXXX such that the contact points form a tetrahedron encompassing the object. Helium gas (rated 99.8% purity at minimum) kept at or below -270°C is to be supplied to the gas-bearings at between 2.2 and 2.9 bar. The chamber is to be kept at or above 0.02 torr to prevent any unnecessary transfer of thermal energy to SCP 4905 via convection. Vacuum pressure is to be supplied by no less than two aerospace grade vacuum pumps with at least two additional sets of pumps to be activated via automatic and redundant backup systems.

Due to expenses and resources required, site transfer of SCP XXXX shall occur only by special request, and must be approved by no less than two level 04 administrative staff members. The vacuum chamber viewing ports must be covered in completely opaque material, it must be hoisted by elastic strapping, and is to be transported at night via air-ride truck and trailer, suspended off the vehicle floor by said strapping.

DESCRIPTION:

SCP XXXX is a 216 mm diameter, 5.4 kg [REDACTED] brand bowling ball with a purple, silver and gold swirl color pattern. It is engraved with the characters "PB III", and has no other remarkable features. SCP XXXX absorbs both kinetic and electromagnetic energy applied to it without re-releasing it in any form. The object contains all absorbed energy until the quantity within its reaches a critical level, estimated to be 40 gigajoules (SEE TEST LOG 1). Immediately after reaching the critical energy threshold, the object will release all contained energy in a combination radiative/kinetic energy burst.

The object was discovered in the burned down remains of the [redacted] Bowling Alley on 8/5/2015 in Eugene, Oregon. Local firefighters and law enforcement responded to reports of an explosion and bright flash at the site, and were unable to extinguish the blaze before the structure was completely destroyed. While fire investigators were attempting to determine origin and cause, they became aware of what was described as low humming sound beneath some of the rubble near what would have been the rear of the structure. Upon removal of debris where the sound originated, officials found a heavily charred corpse.

The remains exhibited a 216 mm diameter hole bored directly through the sternum, and a semicircular-shaped hole through lower left side of the skull, removing the majority of the left mandible. The right femur was cleanly severed just above the knee, with approximately 216 mm missing from the length of the bone and circular, clean-cut profiles. Further investigation yielded no evidence of the missing bone fragments nor any evidence of trauma to the surrounding periosteum or compact bone tissue.

Investigation of the persistent hum then continued. With removal of additional debris from the apparent source of the noise, officials came upon a "bowling ball glowing with a dark red hue, slowly rotating but not changing position." The item appeared to be lodged in the charred remains of a lane back-stop pad.

Foundation emergency-response communication monitoring algorithms picked up discussion of an anomalous object over cellular channels, and agents were dispatched to investigate.

Local officials were s…..

***ADDENDUM 1: WITNESS ACCOUNT OF EVENTS LEADING UP TO FIRE.
Reports indicate that the patrons and the front-desk employee were casually aware of a solo player bowling a remarkably high-score game during the afternoon slump?. The second employee was attending to the pin racking equipment in the back of the alley. Near the end of this individual's game, it became apparent he was on-track to achieve a perfect score. With On the last frame of this game the subject reportedly rolled two strikes, and then for the last roll departed from typical play. The above witnesses claim the subject paused to open a pouch on the side of his bowling bag, and retrieved some items unfamiliar to them.

The subject The subject then knelt down, took out what appeared to be a vial of oil and a small container of a gray powder-like substance, and mixed them together to form a paste. He then applied this to his forehead and right arm in patterns described to be geometric and/or ritualistic in nature. Upon completing the symbols, the subject then retrieved his bowling ball, which fit the above description of SCP XXXX, and prepared to throw. … Next, witnesses reported an overall dimming of lights in the facility, followed by a blinding flash of yellow-hued light and a "clap of short thunder". The flash temporarily blinded those watching the events unfold, but they described hearing a multiple impacts al Upon subsiding of flash blindness, witnesses say they
