Picture of SCP-5161 before death of Dr. ████████ from decapitation from Dr. █████, 193█ (Restored)
Item #: SCP-5161
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5161 is to be kept inside of a 10 m x 10 m x 10 m containment chamber with a fully operational magnetic crane and smaller crane, both controlled via digital protocol. No personnel save for selected Class-D are allowed inside the chamber. Whenever an SCP-5161 killing (known as a Godwinson Event) occurs, the use of the magnetic crane will occur after 1 minute of detecting ceased life, the Hastings Action will active and the magnetic crane will locate SCP-5161 and place it in the direct center of the room. Any alteration from the center must be fixed via manual placement of SCP-5161 with the crane.
Description: SCP-5161 is a Scandinavian longsword dating back approximately to the 9th century. It displays no unusual visual characteristics save for:
- The indecipherable text on the hilt. (Now missing as of ToI-5161-1.)
- The pristine quality of the blade.
The anomalous factors of the sword only come into affect whenever a human enters 5 meters within the sword. If a human comes within the proximity, they will approach the sword and once able to, will attempt to pick up the sword. The subject who has picked up the sword will be designated SCP-5161-2. SCP-5161-2 will then become extremely aggressive, shout and yelling within the chamber. After an additional 27 seconds, SCP-5161-2 will begin to scream various threats of violence towards the closest human to it, attempting to attack it with the sword. Testing has proven that SCP-5161-2, if given no possible means to attack will continue to threaten the nearest human with no stop, the longest lasting ██ days before SCP-5161-2 died of dehydration. If successful in its attack, SCP-5161-2 will continue attacking until their target is dead. Afterward, SCP-5161-2 will demand another "opponent". As of now, there has proven to be no way to separate SCP-5161-2 from SCP-5161 without killing SCP-5161-2. One test in ██-██-19██ (Classified as ToI-5161-1) has proven that instances of SCP-5161-2 will hold onto the sword even if pulled via magnetic crane. This test has established the Hastings Action within testing of SCP-5161. When studying the corpse of the killed Class-D personnel, it is revealed that the skeleton is left half as strong as it was before. Via the limited studies done in 19██, it is highly probable that through an unknown process that SCP-5161 absorbs the components of bones to not only keep its pristine look, but also to maintain itself. (See ToI-5161-1).
Testing of SCP-5161 is to proceed as follows:
- 2 selected Class-D personnel will be placed within the containment chamber of SCP-5161.
- 1 of the Class-D personnel will be instructed to approach the sword, initiating a Godwinson Event and creating an instance of SCP-5161-2.
- After the killing, the Hastings Action will initiate, which will [REDACTED] SCP-5161-2 to death.
- The magnetic crane will lift SCP-5161 and place it in the center of the containment chamber.
- The other crane will relocate the corpse of the Class-D personnel to a disposal site leading directly to a Site forensics lab.
ToI-5161-1:
On ██-██-19██, an instance of SCP-5161-2 resisted letting go of SCP-5161, resulting in his arm being chopped off from the force of the sword. The fall was not fatal and after being tended to by Foundation medical personnel, was able to be interviewed. Due to being, as of writing, the only SCP-5161-2 instance to survive, they have been given the designation SCP-5161-3
Dr. ██████: So, you said you heard voices?
SCP-5161-3: Yes…you told me to walk toward it and I did. But, all of a sudden, these-these voices spoke to me! Saying I needed to "preserve the Eternal Steel"…
Dr. ██████: Wait, it gave a name?
SCP-5161-3: Yeah, the Eternal Steel. Weird [EXPLETIVE], let me tell you.
Dr. ██████: And preserving it…did it tell you to kill D-9255 to do so?
SCP-5161-3: No, it didn't, but…but it felt right. Like the-the bone would, uh, *ahem*…
(SCP-5161-3 gets close to Dr. ██████.)
SCP-5161-3: "The souls of your foes will keep me the Eternal Steel."
After 2 weeks, SCP-5161-3 was found catatonic in bed. Life signs remain and preservation of SCP-5161-3 is to be maintained.
