Item #: 5482

Object class: Safe

Special containment procedures: SCP-5482 is to be stored in a locked 50×50×20cm, water-proof, electrically insulated box, protected by at least two (2) armed guards at all times. Only staff with Level 3 or higher clearance are to be allowed to conduct experiments involving SCP-5482, and testing of SCP-5482 via direct contact with it should only be carried out by Class-D personnel due to its dangerous properties. SCP-5482 must remain at least ten (10) meters away from the nearest television, computer or phone while not being experimented with and can only be transported by personnel equipped with protective gear to avoid injuries.

Description: While seemingly being just a regular Xbox 360 console, SCP-5482 displays many anomalous properties. Not much is known about its past, only that it was found in [REDACTED], and that it appears to have been manufactured at some point between [REDACTED], years before the official release of the console.

SCP-5482 does not appear to need any electricity to function, and it shows some form of sentience since whenever it is brought close to a device such as a television, computer or smartphone, it aggressively extends the cables that should connect it to a TV to try and grasp said device, which then becomes designated SCP-5482-1. Once it believes it has secured the apparatus, it tries to connect to it using its cables, in a process which can take from a couple of seconds to several minutes. These cables have been seen to change shapes to adapt to the new device’s port. SCP-5482 has even been able to connect to devices equipped with new ports manufactured by the Foundation which aren’t on the market. It is not known how SCP-5482 performs these changes to its structure and closer examination through disassembly of SCP-5482 hasn’t shown it to differ from a normal Xbox 360 in any aspects of its composition.

Once SCP-5482 has managed to connect itself to SCP-5482-1, it can be used normally to play any games available for the Xbox 360. However, after the user, which will from this point be known as SCP-5482-2 plays with SCP-5482 for some time, which can vary from six (6) minutes to more than two (2) hours, they will begin to receive messages in their inboxes urging them to perform certain actions. The totality of these messages were sent from former accounts which existed at some point but have been deleted at some point in the past. The content of the messages is usually harmful, but it can range from a plain “Kill yourself” to a more specific “Go [REDACTED] your entire family”. Upon reading the messages, SCP-5482-2 will try to execute the actions portrayed in them and will generally succeed unless stopped. It is not harder to physically confront subjects under the influence of SCP-5482 than it would normally be, as they don’t show any signs of increased strength or intellect, however SCP-5482-2 will not dialogue with anyone (unless SCP-5482’s message specifically states to do so) during their attempt to complete the task. Test subjects have shown to return to normality after 2-4 hours of physical restraint at a safe distance from SCP-5482 and do not appear to display any side-effects.

SCP-5482 has not been determined to be intelligent, since it doesn’t appear to be capable of communication further from giving orders. SCP-5482 does not answer questions or react to any instructions, however, it will physically resist disconnection from SCP-5482-1 and it will try to reconnect itself to SCP-5482-1 until it is brought at a safe distance from it. SCP-5482 has not been reported to cause death to any Foundation personnel via a physical attack, but there have been cases of it lightly injuring agents handling it which did not wear the required protective equipment.
