Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: Item SCP-XXXX is to be stored in a modified room 9' x 21' room. Modifications include a ceiling mounted apparatus to hold the object, sand pit floor (of six(6)inches deep), and cloth curtains on far and side walls.

The object's rim will sit flush in the apparatus and it should never be removed except for special circumstances. Attached to the apparatus is a cloth blind to prevent the tester from seeing themselves through the object's opening. Apparatus tilt should be limited to no more than fifteen(15) degrees toward the far side of the room. The object is to remain covered at all times except for testing.

The cloth on the walls must be flush with the floor, and spaced five(5) inches from the wall to prevent the anomalous damage to surrounding structure. The sand pit performs a similar function to prevent permanent damage to the floor.

Do not photograph or record the object's opening. All surveillance of object and tester is positioned to the side or far side of the room.

Description: Item SCP-XXXX is a clear, glass bowl measuring sixteen(16) inches in diameter and five(5) inches deep. The only notable features in its design is the simple floral pattern engraved in the base. The bowl is extremely durable. Efforts to take samples of the glass failed.

The object was purchased from an antique shop in ██████ Tennessee, by one Martha ██████. Anomalous effects were discovered later when the bowl was filled with water. Mrs ██████ was questioned, given amnesiacs, and medical records were adjusted claiming she was deformed from birth. The antique shop only noted the object as a donation with an included letter (See addendum 1).

Anomalous effect occurs when a living creature looks into the opening of the bowl. Originally, the effect was thought to only occur when water was present inside the bowl. This was untrue (See addendum 2). Any perceived refraction of light resulting in visual distortion, of the view through the bowl, will physically take place. In example, water rippling in the bowl will cause the surface viewed through the bowl to ripple in a similar fashion. When visual contact is broken the effect sticks to the last perceived instant. The aforementioned ripple pattern will no longer move on the surface, but will be a static deformation. This deformation affects organic and inorganic materials.
