The Sybil’s Vial
Item #: SCP-XXX1
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: Gloves and breathing masks are required for non-testing personnel who enter the room in which SCP-XXX1 is contained.
If a subjects motions become violent or threaten safety of SCP-XXX1 during experimentation, the subject must be removed from the chamber immediately and restrained until the end of the vision.
All subjects who come in contact with SCP-XXX1 or SCP-XXX1’s vapor must be administered Class-C amnestics after interrogation or debriefing to prevent them from acting on any visions induced by SCP-XXX1 or a desire to use SCP-XXX1. Subjects should be monitored the next 72 hours for any activity that may be a result of exposure to SCP-XXX1.
SCP-XXX1 must be kept out of sunlight and away from any sources of heat. The chamber in which SCP-XXX1 is contained must be kept at 21° Celsius.
Description: SCP-XXX1 is made up of a clear liquid with small bubbles floating inside, some of which are opaque. It is contained in a crystal vial with an amethyst point crystal stopper dated to the early 5th century BC. The vial is 20.32cm high and contains the 6ml of liquid that makes up SCP-XXX1.
When agitated, SCP-XXX1 begins to boil without an obvious heat source and produces a faint white vapor for a thirty seconds. Any part of SCP-XXX1 removed from the vial will immediately vaporize upon contact with open air. When inhaled by a human, the vapor induces a vision in the test subject. Each test subject can receive one vision in each 48 hour period. This vision depicts an event that will occur within the next 24-48 hours and will physically or personally affect the subject in some way. These visions are especially potent for female subjects.
After inhaling the vapors of SCP-XXX1, human subjects will take anywhere from 10 to 60 seconds to enter the vision. In this state they exhibit frenzied and erratic motions of the arms, legs, and head. Some subjects speak with the voice of one of nine different women during these motions to narrate or describe the vision. When the vision has ended, subjects exhibit lethargic behavior and glazed eyes for a period of a few hours.
Experiments have confirmed that no actions taken by the subjects or outside forces on behalf of the subjects will change the outcomes of the visions granted by SCP-XXX1. Any attempts to influence the events of a vision must be reported immediately, and any person or being acting on a vision from SCP-XXX1 will be administered Class-D amnestics or terminated.
