Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained on location within Provisional Site 988. It is to be monitored by remote surveillance through Site-██ with 6 additional on-site personnel. The perimeter of SCP-XXXX's containment site is to be surrounded by a concrete rebar-reinforced wall measuring 3 meters in height and 0.5 meters in depth. The perimeter is to be inspected biweekly for any structural damage and repairs are to be done immediately. Any foliage growing within a 5 meter buffer zone of its containment are to be removed immediately.
Should any foliage inside SCP-XXXX make contact outside of its containment, the affected vegetation is to be excavated and incinerated before making contact with any other surrounding forms of vegetation. Instances of SCP-XXXX are to be consistently monitored for any attempts to breach containment, and should be neutralized if attempting to exit via the main entrance of the park. The entrance is to be closed by use of a steel gate of three 3 meters in length and 2 meters in height. Entrance to SCP-XXXX by personnel of Level 3 or lower is prohibited.
Description: SCP-XXXX is the designation given to the ██████ State Park, located 10 km north of ████████, Pennsylvania. At this time the containment of SCP-XXXX covers an area of 3.2 km2. The park's geography includes one body of water located in the center of the park, which covers 6% of its current area. The remaining 94% of its area is filled with an undetermined number of foliage and vegetation belonging to the sapindaceae family. All forms of vegetation and foliage contained within SCP-XXXX are coated with a thin layer of a substance composed of [DATA EXPUNGED].
The substance has a moderately viscous consistency, and has been observed to be highly reflective, likely keeping vegetation at lower temperatures during warmer periods. While the substance is not detrimental to plant life, it is highly dangerous when in contact with human skin. When tested on samples of human skin cells, the substance begins to cause symptoms of tissue necrosis as skin cells begin to deteriorate. Longer periods of exposure can result in irreversible effects, typically when exposed for longer than 4 hours without immediate treatment.
On the ends of branches extending from trees contained within SCP-XXXX are spores which release an aerosol composed primarily of ███████████ █████, emitting at a rate of 25 ppm. The substance has been observed to enter the lungs and bind to the alveoli in the lungs and proceed to draw fluids, resulting in symptoms of pulmonary odema if left untreated. Currently any attempts at removing the spores by physical or chemical means were unsuccessful.
Other anomalies reported inside SCP-XXXX include a colony of 56 sylvilagus floridanus. These instances, labeled SCP-XXXX-A, share similar physical properties to ordinary rabbits found in nature, with only minor physical abnormalities. These include mildly elongated front and hind claws, used for digging burrows and for defense against predators, and a slight red layer of film over their irises, similar to a cataract. Tests have shown that SCP-XXXX-A instances are able to detect thermal radiation, therefore being a likely reason for their unusually tinted irises.
When encountering other mammals, SCP-XXXX-A instances will proceed to incapacitate their prey via targeting areas of vital importance. The entities will then proceed to [DATA EXPUNGED] their target, with only inedible matter remaining. These entities have been observed to go into periods of hibernation between the months of November and March. Foundation personnel on explorations of SCP-XXXX discovered multiple burrows underground, with remote cameras indicating these burrows connect to a system of tunnels for storing food.
Any individual entering SCP-XXXX is required to don NIOSH-approved respirators and corrosion-resistant full-body suits at all times. ANSI-approved goggles must be worn at all times. Failure to comply with these measures will result in immediate denial of access and removal from the proximity of SCP-XXXX.
Addendum XXXX.1: SCP-XXXX was discovered in April of 1997 following multiple reports of respiratory illness, lower bodily trauma and disappearances in the towns surrounding the park. Local law enforcement investigated the matter with several officers being hospitalized for respiratory inflammation and one officer for trauma to their lower leg, including a fractured fibula. The Foundation was contacted following these events and research teams were dispatched to evaluate the status of SCP-XXXX.
Following multiple reports of high hospital admittance, civilian disappearances and rabid wildlife during March 1997, including an alarming number of cases reported on March 6th, Foundation personnel arrived on site to assess the repeated hospital admittance reports and missing person reports in the area. Investigation into the matter was conducted over 60 days, directed by Dr. █████. Following the conclusion of Dr. █████'s research, Provisional Site 988 was established and containment protocols were enforced. Testing and sample collection would begin 32 days later.
