Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX must stored in a unit equipped with a mechanical thermostat. Said thermostat should be set at or below 20 degrees Celsius. No electronics are to be brought within one kilometer of SCP-XXXX, with the exception of testing equipment.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a small wooden sculpture resembling a roadrunner. SCP-XXXX releases a large electromagnetic pulse (dubbed SCP-XXXX-01) whenever its surface temperature reaches 40.5 degrees Celsius. Directly after SCP-XXXX-01 is initiated, the surface temperature of SCP-XXXX drops to about -47.7 degrees Celsius. SCP-XXXX-01 not only shuts down electronics within a 5-kilometer radius, but also erases all recorded data on digital video cameras and any digital data stored in electronics that are within 1 kilometer of SCP-XXXX at the time of the blast.

SCP-XXXX-01 itself is visible to the human eye, and appears as a rapidly growing orb of bright purple light (estimated at 1600 lumens), with SCP-XXXX at the epicenter. Experimentation shows that the light can penetrate any known material except █████, but expansion of SCP-XXXX-01 halts once it reaches ten kilometers in diameter. After the expansion of the SCP-XXXX-01 ceases, it remains stable for approximately seven minutes, then collapses. Following the collapse of SCP-XXXX-01, SCP-XXXX’s surface temperature begins returning to room temperature, and all electronics power up as normal, excluding digital video cameras and storage units for digital data.

Addendum XXXX-01:

19:00: SCP-XXXX introduced to testing chamber.

19:03: 2 Terabyte Hard Disk Drive and ███ brand battery powered satellite phone placed in testing chamber, along with candles.

19:05: Dr. ████ introduced to test chamber, equipped with a blowtorch.

19:07: Dr. ████ begins using the blowtorch on SCP-XXXX.

19:09: SCP-XXXX initiates SCP-XXXX-01.

19:09: All lights in testing chamber extinguish as SCP-XXXX-01 reaches the last lightbulb in the room. Dr. ████ points out that the room has become significantly colder than before.

19:10: Dr. ████ lights all candles in the room via blowtorch, despite the room being already filled with the light of SCP-XXXX-01.

19:13: Dr. ████ attempts to power on the satellite phone, which does not power on despite having fresh batteries put in before the experiment.

19:14: Dr. ████ begins shivering, saying he estimates the room’s temperature at about 10 degrees Celsius.

19:17: Power returns to the testing chamber as Dr. ████ watches SCP-XXXX-01 recede into SCP-XXXX. The satellite phone powers up as normal, and all data previously found on the 2 Terabyte Hard Disk Drive has been wiped.

Analysis: SCP-XXXX may initiate SCP-XXXX-01 as a form of self-preservation. Because most wood begins to char at about 50 degrees Celsius, and since SCP-XXXX initiates SCP-XXXX-01 at about 40.5 degrees Celsius, one can deduce that it may be attempting to cool itself to prevent external damage.

Addendum XXXX-B:
On August 29, 20XX, Dr. ████ was sent into the test chamber equipped with a blowtorch, and was instructed to use it on SCP-XXXX. Just before SCP-XXXX initiated SCP-XXXX-01, Dr. ████ stumbled and grabbed onto SCP-XXXX. As SCP-XXXX-01 went off, Dr. ████’s hand froze to it due to the extreme drop in temperature on SCP-XXXX’s surface. Dr. ████ being screaming and attempted to remove his hand from SCP-XXXX’s surface. The testing session was terminated, and Dr. ████ was rushed to the infirmary. Dr. ████ was treated for deep frostbite, and his hand was amputated. Approximately ██ hours later, Dr. ████ was fully recovered and attempted once again to test on SCP-XXXX. Once again, when SCP-XXXX initiated SCP-XXXX-01, screaming was heard from the testing chamber. However, when the test chamber door was opened, all the task force found was SCP-XXXX, Dr. ████’s clothes, and a juvenile roadrunner.
