Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a locked box, guarded by no less than 2 agents at all times. Testing involving SCP-XXXX requires the authorization of Level 2 personnel. Prior to testing, SCP-XXXX is to be lifted from the box using a grabbing tool. During testing, subjects are to wear a head-mounted camera and microphone to maintain contact with the researchers. After testing has commenced, SCP-XXXX is to be placed back into its containment box using the grabbing tool.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a ship's steering wheel of radius 25 cm dating to the 17th century, discovered by maritime historian H. M. ██████ during an excavation of a shipwreck near the Bahamas. The wheel, comprised of mahogany, has been eroded by time, with colonies of coral and fungi growing on it. Since its containment, the organisms growing on SCP-XXXX continue to thrive despite not having the requirements for survival.
The anomalous effects of SCP-XXXX activates when a human grasps SCP-XXXX with their hand(s). Almost instantaneously, the subject's items in possession, excluding SCP-XXXX; clothes, hand-helds, etc, all vanish from view. The subject stops moving entirely, including heartbeat. Any attempts made by the subject to release SCP-XXXX fail. The only way to release SCP-XXXX is to have an external force, a grabbing tool for example, make them let go of each other. Once the subject and SCP-XXXX are separated, the subject breaks out of the vegetative state, with all of its previous possessions back.
In the perspective of the subject, however, the situation is a lot different. The subject is transported to a supposedly unending and bottomless ocean, dubbed SCP-XXXX-1, with everything but SCP-XXXX still in their inventory. Despite the radios seemingly being on two different planes of existence, the researchers and the subjects are still able to communicate with each other. No wildlife are present in SCP-XXXX-1, except for SCP-XXXX-2 instances. SCP-XXXX-2 is a shark-like aquatic organism that manifest after around 6 minutes of being in SCP-XXXX-1. SCP-XXXX-2 instances are hostile and will attempt to attack the subject by continually biting them. If SCP-XXXX-2 succeeds in killing the subject in SCP-XXXX-1, the subject in the real world breaks out of the vegetative state and drops SCP-XXXX.
