Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a standard lockbox within light containment storage located at Site-42. No personnel under level 2 clearance are to access SCP-XXXX under any circumstances. Any personnel conducting experiments on SCP-XXXX are to place it within an alternate 3 by 3 meter square room constructed from concrete.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a circular red button made of a cheap plastic top with a chrome painted aluminum bottom with a top diameter measuring at roughly 7.4 cm and a bottom diameter of around 9.4 cm. SCP-XXXX was found within an antiques shop in ████████, Arizona. While it's physical attributes lack any anomalies, when SCP-XXXX is pushed by any person, a male voice from an unknown source will begin to recite lines in a buoyant tone similar to that of the game show Jeopardy.
Only the person that activated the button last will hear the voice, and surviving test subjects describe the voice as "upbeat". The voice will recite an intro that includes the subject's birth name and an echoing applauding audience. The source of the voice and audience is unknown. SCP-XXXX is able to function with any world language and can even perform the show with animals (See addendum).
The host will then ask a series of questions that alternate between numerous amounts of academic studies ranging from English to basic mathematics to advanced Calculus. The questions can then be answered by pressing the button again and speaking the answer. The amount of questions and difficulty of questions varies by the subject's intellect. Each question is timed depending on difficulty of the question and the intelligence of the user. Every question the user answers correctly will be met with a loud "ding" sound followed by the mass applause of the unseen audience.
If the user gets the question wrong, a low alarm is heard followed by the audible displeasure and booing of the audience. If the user fails to answer 3 questions correctly, the announcer will reluctantly say "Sorry, game over." Shortly after this, the subject will experience extreme swelling of the heart to the point where it reaches 3 times the average size before bursting, killing the subject instantly. After this, the button will return it's original state.1 If the user successfully answers all questions correctly, the host will congratulate the user before the host's voice along with the audience fade away. The button will then begin to ooze a black viscous fluid of unknown origin or makeup, the fluid will flow out of the button, onto the floor and will begin to form whatever the user's greatest desire is.
There is no feasible way to remove the subject from the game, as if they leave the room they will be automatically disqualified and the heart will expand as if the game was lost.
Some of the questions SCP-XXXX asked D-███████ include:
"What is 754,000,000,000 in scientific notation?"
"Simplify this equation: 12x3 - 3(2x3 + 4x -1) - 5x + 7"
"Given f(x) = e (x 2 - x), find
a) the interval(s) of increase and decrease of f,
b) value(s) of x for which f has a local extremum,
c) the interval(s) of concavity and any inflection point(s)."
"Is this sentence correct? 'The Great Lodge was an interesting place to visit, especially because its located in alaska."
"Describe all parts of the photosynthesizing plant cell."
"What is 6 multiplied by 7?"
After subject D-███████ completed the show only missing one question, the viscous fluid formed an M134 Minigun with a box of ammo corresponding to the gun itself. Foundation personnel quickly detained D-███████ and confiscated the Minigun for analysis. It is unknown how SCP-XXXX asks questions that cannot be answered without a visual representation EX: "Is this sentence correct?" questions.
Addendum-XXXX-1: Animal Testing.
For the following experiment the Foundation brought in an adult male Hominoidea or common ape to understand the button's effects on animals. Upon placing the ape within the chamber Foundation personnel noticed the ape's immediate interest in the button, almost as if it was coaxing the ape to press it.
After the ape pressed the button, it began to look startled and confused as to where the source of the voices are. The ape soon calmed as if it could understand what the voices were telling it, and began to press the button before uttering an untranslatable babble, each response was different for each press of the button. There was an approximate 15 second delay to each response, and within those 15 seconds the ape remained still and silent, as if listening to what is hypothesized to be the question being asked followed by the timer. After around 15 minutes of being in the game, the ape suffered swelling of the heart shortly before death. SCP-XXXX was placed back into containment until further notice.
Addendum-XXXX-2 Initial Recovery.
SCP-XXXX was found in a small antiques shop in ████████, Arizona. Foundation personnel were notified of SCP-XXXX after a customer reportedly pressed the button, and began to show panicked and bewildered behavior. Shortly after this, the customer's chest began to expand profusely, their sternum breaking from their thoracic cage. Shortly afterwards an audible "pop" was heard by the shop owner as the customer collapsed.
The shop owner quickly called local authorities. When questioned by the Foundation, the shop owner didn't have any recollection of owning or stocking SCP-XXXX.
