Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-XXXX is currently impossible to contain due to it's unknown behavior and possibility of movement. Due to the consistent nature of SCP-XXXX, containment is feasible through restricting certain areas from the public. Containment areas are to be lined with electrified fencing forming a circle around an area of effect. The circle must have an exact diameter of 550 meters, and must have guard towers placed every 138 meters around the circle.¹

Containment areas are not to be entered during daylight at any time unless for testing purposes with permission from 2 clearance level 4 personnel. During daylight hours, security personnel are to patrol the borders of the containment area, and are to report any differences in the look of SCP-XXXX to the stationed security chief. Any unauthorized personnel found within the containment area of SCP-XXXX during evening or night time hours are to be detained immediately, any personnel found inside during daylight hours are to be held inside until evening hours begin. Once evening hours arrive, subject is to be detained and questioned about their experiences within the containment area.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a phenomenon in which several areas of the southern hemisphere experience an anomalous event where black streaks described to move in a similar manner to how the Aurora Polaris or Northern Lights appear. The event only occurs during daylight hours, typically lasting from █:██ to ██:██. The source of the black streaks is unknown and it absorbs all forms of light. While its intensity can vary by area, each instance of SCP-XXXX forces any form of living being, including microbial life to immediately harm the lifeforms of closest distance and size to them.²

Any form of attack caused by SCP-XXXX will usually end in the victor killing or disabling their opponent before beginning to consume the fallen opponent from the cranium downwards. Typically the winning opponent will consume half of their opponent by ripping chunks out of the opponent and forcibly consuming it, typically causing the consumer to suffocate due to all the material being forced down their throat.³ After finishing with the opponent, victims will hastily find another opponent to fight. Organisms under the effects of SCP-XXXX will not attack organisms outside of the area of effect, and when removed from the area of effect, the organism will return to normal.

Victims of SCP-XXXX will not retreat from fighting their opponent even if it is inevitable they won't survive. SCP-XXXX's effects end once evening hours begin. Surviving victims of SCP-XXXX remember little to nothing of their time under SCP-XXXX's effects. SCP-XXXX's effects only occur within small pockets of land spanning exactly 500 meters, however SCP-XXXX's effects on the sky can be observed outside of the area of effect. Areas of effect are spread out randomly. There are currently [REDACTED] known instances of SCP-XXXX. SCP-XXXX will not occur completely within bodies of water, but will occur in and around certain coastlines. No form of shelter or building will prevent the effects from happening within the area of effect.

Foreword: An interview conducted shortly after Subject D-██████ was removed from SCP-XXXX's chamber after several hours of inactivity after event-XXXX-E1. (See addendum-XXXX-2)

Dr. ███████: How do you remember feeling while within the area of effect?

D-██████: I-I dunno man, I kinda remember feeling… hungry.

Dr. ███████: Hungry, as in you wished to consume food?

D-██████: No, it wasn't hunger for food… it was like a sort of blood-lust, like I had to kill or else something bad might happen to me.

Dr. ███████: I see.

D-██████: Yeah, it was like a deep desire to just cause a lot of pain to anything living, it was almost as if there were voices in my head, ordering me to kill something— anything.

Dr. ███████: Interesting, moving on. Do you have any recollection of what you did while within the area of effect?

D-██████: Not really, I only remember entering then just, going into like a trance as if I was suddenly purposeless, I couldn't move, I couldn't do anything. But that burning feeling of hunger just kept going.

Dr. ███████: I see, how long did this 'hunger' last?

D-██████: How long was I in there?

Dr. ███████: 6 hours.

D-██████: 6 hours? It felt like an eternity in there! The hunger just pulled at me, I couldn't do anything.

Dr. ███████: Was there anyone else within the area near you?

D-██████: I don't remember. Besides, you people could see me in there. In fact, you tell me if anyone was in there with me.

Dr. ███████: What we saw is irrelevant, answer the question. You made it clear earlier that you could remember what you felt.

D-██████: I-I can't remember, it's like my mind isn't letting me remember, you know?

Dr. ███████: Very well.

Closing Statement: Subject D-██████ was sent back to his cell, and will resume normal activity.

Addendum-XXXX-2

+ Open Experiment Log

Log of event XXXX-E1: Dr. █████████ uses two D-class personnel with the same strength and weight to understand SCP-XXXX's effect on two of the same animal species with the same strength. Personnel observed with binoculars from a guard tower and used cameras for better observation while on the border of the area of effect.

0550: Subjects 1 and 2 are placed on opposing sides of area of effect, subjects remain in a calm state.

0600: SCP-XXXX's effects begin. Both subjects immediately become hostile and begin to attack each other.

0615: Subject 1 is fatally injured and still attacking subject 2.

0617: Subject 2 has killed subject 1, and is on top of the remains.

0620: Subject 2 is consuming the remains of subject 1, consuming all material except bones.

0625: Subject 2 has ceased consumption of subject 1, stopping at subject 1's liver. Subject 2 ceases movement and simply stands in place.

0630: After 5 minutes of inactivity, the experiment is concluded and Subject 2 is taken in for questioning.

Experiment Conclusion: SCP-XXXX seemingly removes all sense of morality and to any person inside of it's area of effect. More experimentation is required to see if SCP-XXXX's effects can be subsided.

1. SCP-XXXX seems to move with the Antarctic continent's glacial movements, as it's area of effect fails to leave the fencing perimeter at any point.

2. SCP-XXXX does not appear to affect any kind of plant life, as most plant life lacks any ability to move.
