“The ‘Don’t Talkboy’”

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-3_ is contained in a standard item containment locker in the Safe containment wing of Site 56. SCP-3_ is to be taken out and played to full duration, in the presence of at least one adolescent male from a non-religious background on a biweekly basis for ‘social interaction’ to maintain the current inhabitant of SCP-3_’s mental state.
Description: SCP-3
_ is an audio cassette player and recorder of the “Talkboy” brand circa 1992, with a standard —— brand cassette tape contained inside it. SCP-3___’s functionality aside from it’s effects is standard with basic play, record, stop, rewind, fast forward, and eject abilities.

When SCP-3_ is set to record it will behave like any ordinary version of the Talkboy Device. However if a human subject recounts any traumatic or deeply scarring events that occurred in their past while being recorded by SCP-3_, it will trigger 4 possible anomalous results as soon as recording is stopped. These outcomes are dependent on how long the subject recollects said trauma and are currently unable to reverse. It is worth noting that only one of these effects are present at a time, and that the recording process does not effect the current ‘inhabitant’ of SCP-3___ (not including the effect of 45 minutes or more exposure)

Up to approx. 15 minutes
Any conscious memory of the discussed events are ‘wiped’ from the participants’ mind as well as the memory of the actual tape recording. Although tests have shown that instinctual responses to stimuli related to their experience(s) are still regular. The tape playback reveal recordings that are as expected and ordinary.

15 minutes up to approx. 30 minutes
Subjects lose all forms of vocal ability, including most notably speech, cries of any volume and and breathing sounds. Subjects are greatly distressed after recording and (through unknown means) are able to identify SCP-3___ as the cause regardless of whether they were aware about being recorded before. Medical examinations show no actual harm to vocal cords in any physical way. Tape playback is entirely comprised of vocalizations of the participant of said test, at different levels of suffering.

30 minutes up to approx. 45 minutes
Individuals will (through anomalous means) will lose all ability to make sounds of any kind. Tests have observed vibrations being ‘absorbed’ at a molecular level. Subjects are also noted to be non-responsive on the distress discussed in the audio session, though are sound of mind otherwise. Audio playback reveals what was originally believed to be re-enactments of the stressful/painful situations but as discovered in Test:SCP-3___/134 are direct audio from the events. Possible military application for stealth based task forces are still being considered.

45 minutes to tape completion (60 minutes)
Upon the completed recording of the tape an irreversible process takes place to the subject’s body, wherein it will seemingly ‘scramble’ and fade into nothing. After which the subject will ‘write-over’ the last individual contained in SCP-3___.
