Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: Any individual found to be under the effects of SCP-XXXX should be amnestized following a mandatory interview. After amnestization, previously affected individuals are to be monitored for a period of 3 months to ensure that they are free of the effects of SCP-XXXX. During the 3 month monitoring period, subjects are to undergo mandatory psychiatric evaluation under the guise of either court or school mandated evaluations in order to ensure that they are free of the effects of SCP-XXXX
SCP-XXXX-1 instances are to be contained in standard humanoid containment cells at Site-87. Any individuals that have been in contact with an SCP-XXXX-1 instance are to be amnestized and a cover story is to be disseminated to explain the disappearance of the SCP-XXXX-1 instance. Any student that came into contact with the SCP-XXXX-1 instance prior to containment are to be monitored for a period of 3 months to ensure that they do not develop SCP-XXXX symptoms. Research is currently ongoing on reversing the effects of SCP-XXXX in SCP-XXXX-1 instances.
Foundation web crawlers are to monitor online forums for signs of individuals under the effects of SCP-XXXX
Description: SCP-XXXX is an infectious psychological phenomenon effecting students within the upper 2% of students1 in American high schools. Individuals are more likely to be affected by SCP-XXXX if they are taking an especially rigorous course load2 and participate in multiple extracurricular activities. The initial vector by which SCP-XXXX infection occurs is currently unknown but SCP-XXXX appears to be mildly contagious.
SCP-XXXX infection follows a roughly 3 stage pattern. While amnestics have proven effective in reversing the effects of SCP-XXXX in some subjects, the efficacy of amnestics decreases and the the potential for a resurgence of SCP-XXXX effects increased exponentially as a subject progresses through the 3 stages.
The first stage of SCP-XXXX infection is marked by subjects expressing despondence, uncertainty and showing signs of clinical depression. Subjects in this stage will often express feelings of a loss of hope, and an overwhelming feeling that they will amount to nothing. A common themes of discussion for subjects in this phase are fears about getting into a college or a general feeling that they are useless and worthless. Amnestics have proven effective in reversing the effects of this stage 94.7% of the time with a 4.3% chance of a resurgence of SCP-XXXX symptoms over the next 3 months.
If a subject progresses to stage 2 of SCP-XXXX infection they will show an obsessive, compulsive focus on their schoolwork. Subjects will prioritize schoolwork and academic success over any other course of action. Subjects will often develop severe insomnia and eating disorders as they fail to eat or sleep due to their single-minded focus on academic success. It is not uncommon for subjects in this phase of SCP-XXXX to collapse from either exhaustion or starvation. Subjects in this phase of infection will often isolate themselves both emotionally and physically from their peers. When questioned about the self-destructive nature of their actions subjects will reply that it is necessary
