Terra

Item #: SCP-5182

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: The astronomical area of SCP-5182 is precisely 2 Astronomical Units (AUs) away from Earth, on the opposite side of the Sun, precisely mirroring the path of Earth including orbit, axial tilt and velocity. Whilst it also remains concealed by the Sun, as of present uncontainable.

The primary containment method, in this case, is the erasure of any mention of SCP-5182, particularly within scientific circles outside of foundation staff level 2 and above. Amnestics will be distributed to those involved.

Interception and censorship or deletion of all Satellite imagery from a distance greater than that of Mars are required to ensure the secrecy of SCP-5182, and not to cause panic or intrigue in the general public.

Conspiracy theorists will be fed leaks to ensure that any knowledge of SCP-5182 remains sceptical at best. See Area 51.

Description: SCP-5182 is commonly described as an Inverted Earth, henceforth referred to as "Terra". Terra is a planet that matches the properties of Earth on a numerical scale. The key difference is the inversion of the positions of land and sea. This has led to an intrinsic increase in the areas of high temperatures with average temperatures being precisely two-thirds higher than Earth.

Terra's distinctly larger landmass has the extended effect of vast areas with little water on the surface. As such there are areas that rely upon rain and underground rivers.

5182-1 are immensely huge, black cacti that cover large portions of the planet. These cacti seem to exert the same function as Earth trees, absorbing sunlight and expelling oxygen. Upon direct contact with other living organic matter, the matter begins deteriorating immediately, from the origin point of the contact. The rate of deterioration is fast enough to kill an adult human within 5 minutes. Currently under study at Site 11.

5182-2 is a humanoid creature, covered in white iridescent scales. These creatures self-identified as "Myruk". They are extremely violent, seeking out combat with any non-Myruk or 5182-1. These creatures are more aligned with Lizards than homo sapiens. Their scales are immune to the effects of 5182-1 displaying a long evolutionary parity.

They are cold-blooded, have claws, 2 rows of razor-sharp teeth, each of which contains a channel down its centre. Assumedly to drain blood away. Even during ingesting of non-combative prey, they are extremely violent, ripping and tearing at flesh or other living matter the creature is composed of.

5182-3 is a form of grass, ranging from 0.5 to 3 inches in length, dark purple and covered in short spines. This plant is non-dangerous but is of note as it is only noticed to grow in the absence of both 5182-1 and 5182-2. It is noted that the area around 5182-3 has a lower ambient light level than typical for areas with no obstructions, the light is seemingly dimmed.

Discovery Terra was discovered after images from the Viking Mars Lander were analysed by the Foundation. The images showed an Earth-like planet, this whilst not extraordinary where analysed thoroughly, as the time when these were taken, the planet Earth was on the other side of the Sun. Meaning the planet that was imaged was Terra. The Foundation quickly infiltrated NASA and corrupted the images and damaged the connection to the Viking Lander. Granting time for the Foundation to wipe the memories of those who had seen the images unedited and creating a program to stop images being received by NASA whilst the lander was able to view Terra, these images were instead directed to the Foundation.

In 2000 using the Foundation's significant resources and further control of space observation, there was a successful launch of FarSight-02. FS-02 was able to travel to Terra and establish an orbit, It began transmitting high-resolution images, including detailed topography scans. At this point 5182 1-3, were identified. It was noticed that 5182-2 were diurnal but the majority of their activity seemed to be underground. They were undetectable with thermal scans, belying their cold-blooded nature.

In 201x the Foundation was able to send a manned mission, the occupants were Mobile Task Force Charlie-12 "Space Invaders", created for this mission from a selection of elite personnel in other MTFs, 3 Level 3 Research staff, a Level 4 Research staff member as lead and 2 class-D personnel for experimentation. The travel time was 127 days, during which the members of the space-flight suffered no anomalous incidents. Addendum 1 details their discoveries upon arrival.

Exploration Log
The following is a collection of video, audio and text logs received by the Foundation from Terra Flight 01. These are accessible by staff members who have level 2 or higher clearance.

Terra Flight 01, is a medium-sized spacecraft, capable of both atmospheric and Astroflight, the craft is 42 meters in length, 12 meters in width and 6 meters in depth. It has housing capabilities for 25 personnel, life support for up to 500 days and medical supplies for minor and medium injuries, surgeries are unavailable. Propulsion is non-FTL, deemed unnecessary for the short distance.

Onboard Terra Flight 01
Occupants: 20, 13 armed, 4 unarmed staff members, 2 unarmed expendable personnel. 1 deceased.
Flight Time: 125.25/127.5 days, 54 hours until landfall.
State of Crew: Nominal
Known incidents: MTF operative, Private G.Barlin, passed away from an apparent heart attack in his sleep, he has been ejected and is expected to burn up from solar radiation within 60 days.
Life Support status: 125.25/500 days
Begin log: "Begin recording, Dr Delwyn aboard the Terra flight 01. Lead researcher of the expedition. Joined by Corporal Cartwright, commander of MTF Charlie-12 aka 'Space Invaders.' "
Authorization codes are stated and censored
The camera flicks to life revealing the Doctor and the Corporal. Both are staring at the camera but seem relaxed.

Dr Delwyn begins speaking again "We are discussing our final plans, objectives and goals for the first expedition to Terra. The naming of areas has been decided to call areas that as if they were the Earth equivalent, as such we are aiming to land on the English Isthmus. equivalent to the English Channel. We aim to land here, due to there being a concentration of 5182-1 and a low intensity of activity from 5182-2. The nature of 5182-2 is as of yet unknown and contact is to be avoided on the first exploration outside of Terra Flight 01, the main aim of which is to obtain a sample of 5182-1 using class D personnel 4592. Plans have been set for 2 primary explorations post landing, before re-engaging an orbit and flight back to Earth though this may be subject to alteration depending on exploration 1's results. " Delwyn breathed a heavy sigh, before continuing "Constant contact will be made with the Foundation, though a delay of 16 minutes is to be expected. "

Corporal Cartwright began speaking at this point. "Appropriate measures will be taken to ensure the safety of all personnel on this trip, 3 rotations of 4 members will be in place to protect the ship and landing site at all times. Exploration missions will be escorted by no less than 6 MTF soldiers." Cartwright leaned his head back, looking at a screen in the room. "Landing zone seems to be easily defendable, the lack of 5182-2 will make the area ideal for expeditions, explorations I mean" He stated correcting himself.

"Final report before landing tomorrow, Log End." The Doctor concluded.

Terra Flight 01 landed on Terra./
Occupants: 20, 13 armed, 4 unarmed staff members, 2 unarmed expendable personnel.
Flight Time: 127.5/127.5 days, Landing Day +0
State of Crew: Concerned, readied.
Known incidents: Approximately 5 meters above the landing site, sudden power loss occurred across all ship systems. Power drain exceeded standard power shortage or capacitor discharge. Life Support reduced.
Life Support status: 127.5/400 days
Begin Log: "Begin recording, Dr Delwyn aboard the Terra flight 01, landed upon 'Terra'. Lead researcher of the expedition. Joined by Corporal Cartwright, commander of MTF Charlie-12 aka 'Space Invaders.' "
Authorization codes are stated and censored
Dr Delwyn starts the log stating how the ship upon nearing the landing site seemingly collided with an instance of 5182-1 at 5 meters above ground level. The ship dropped uncontrolled for the remainder of the distance but landed with minor impact damage, however, there was significant loss of energy aboard and as such many systems are working at a sub-optimal level, the life support was a concern amongst crew but it was deemed intact enough for a return trip after exploration expeditions were complete.

Corporal Cartwright takes over, beginning his intended exploration route, goals and crew he plans to take with him. Details attached.
The expedition outside of Terra Flight 01 will consist of a patrol around the ship at a distance of 50 meters. Researcher Acer will be accompanied by D-Class 7644, and 3 MTF operatives, Cartwright will be the lead for this expedition.

"Report will be sent upon completion. Log End" Delwyn finishes.

Terra Flight 01 landed on Terra.
Expedition 1 report. The log is the account of Researcher Acer.
"Ok, I believe this is recording." She begins after letting out a sigh. "Researcher Acer Clearance code: XXXX/XXXX, beginning expedition log 1, Terra Flight's bay doors are open, ahead of me I see an arid landscape, with the occasional instance of 5182-1, local time is 0800 hours, the sun has just risen. Instances of 5182-1 seem to be moving although no breeze or seismic activity can be felt. We are wearing protective gear and are ready to disem…"

Researcher Acer is cut off by an unannounced male voice "That's fuckin' freaky." He says succinctly, his sentence seemingly cut short by a thump.

"Shut up Dan, start moving forward, we'll tell you when and where to move." another male voice cuts in.
Entry 1 over
Experiment 1 begin
A crackle of static picks up before Acer can be heard again "Nothing to report as we have completed half of the patrol, begin Experiment 1. If you would Corporal."

A familiar voice identifiable as the corporal picks up "Yes Ma'am, D-Class 7644, remove your protective gear, on your right hand, and touch the closest instance of 5182-1." He says sternly.

Dan responds, "What if I don't wanna?"
"You'll be terminated and we'll bring out 8194, or you can touch the damn plant and come back with the gratitude of the Foundation"
Dan simply says "Fine."
A short rustling can be heard before Dan says "Where should I touch it?"
"Anywhere is fine," Acer responds this time.

A moment passes presumably due to hesitation.
"I feel really fucking bad," Dan says weakly.

Acer starts up "Subject seems to have experienced near-instantaneous lethargy and nausea. He is visibly trying to recoil from the tree but seems unable."

"Please, help…" Dan meekly replies.

"Vomiting has begun and ceased within 20 seconds, the subject has resorted to dry heaving," Acer speaks after a few moments of silence

Acer continues. "Subject has expired after 52 seconds of direct contact, he appears almost entirely dehydrated and exsanguinated. His bones are visible through very thin skin. Eyes have fallen out of their sockets, along with teeth and hair. Deterioration originated at the contact point of his hand, recommend gloves. Sample collected using standard spacesuit gloves and a knife. Date XX/XX/201X/ Time: 8:25 am"

The sample contained in an Acryllic box. Locked in ship storage for transport.

A note was added in the following log.
"The instance of 5182-1 was observed to grow approximately 0.4 meters during the seeming ingestion of 7644."

Alert: Movement detected within 10 metres of the ship at 10:34 PM. Video footage showed an instance of 5182-2 that briefly emerged over a nearby ridge. MTF on duty have been notified, no further instances were detected.

Voice Log received
Dr Delwyn's begins speaking that he has requested a repeat of yesterday's patrol path to investigate the instance of 5182-1that D-Class 7644 interacted with, then conduct a search for 5182-2 instances nearby.

Expedition 2 report.
"Researcher Acer Clearance code: XXXX/XXXX, beginning expedition log 2. The landscape is unchanged, beginning the expedition."

"This is Researcher Acer, we are nearing the instance of 5182-1, Private Bale has stated that he observed an instance of 5182-2, MTF operatives are maintaining safety procedures but we are safe to continue at present.

Experiment 2
"We have arrived at the previously experimented on instance of 5182-1, there are no remains of the previous test subject, however, there is a patch of growth 10 meters away from the cactus. Categorised as 5182-3. Corporal begin the experiment."
"Yes, Ma'am." The corporal's voice cuts in.
"D-Class 8194, please attempt to touch the 5182-3." He says succinctly.
"O… Okay. Is it going to hurt?" An unsure voice spoke.
"Not at all, please we're here to keep you safe." Researcher Acer replied.
"You said that to Dan…" He continued fearfully
"Noncompliance will lead to termination. Please continue." The Corporal finished.

"Subject has approached the instance of 5182-3, he is reaching out to it, he's recoiling slightly on his hand approaching but he is closing, contact has been made. The subject has had no apparent changes."

"How do you feel?" Acer inquired.
"Uh… fine, what now?" 8194 replied
"Please collect some for further investigation. Thank you." Acer said relieved.

"Subject was able to acquire a small clump of 5182-3 which has been sealed in a plastic bag for recovery."

Heavy breathing can be heard at this point, along with heavy footsteps.
"Acer… here, two MTF operatives… down… retreating to ship," Acer says breathlessly.

Dr Delwyn's voice begins at a frantic pace, "We are under attack, the whole shuttle is covered in 5182-2, we have locked the ship down, the turrets have been destroyed, we've lost several MTF operatives as well as D-Class 8194 during attempted communications. We won't survive much longer. Our engines are too damaged for take-off, we're going to try something, it might not work, but it's all we've got."

"We've sent our research, it may be our last action but we caught one. It was lagging behind the others and we managed to capture it after it had sustained a bullet wound."

Interview Log
"What are you?" Corporal Cartwright begins speaking.
"W… We… ahh.. are… Myruk." The being speaks hesitantly.
"What is Myruk?" Cartwright continues
"We are us." The Myruk replies
"Who are you?"
"Mis'frik" It responds.
"Mis'frik why are you attacking us?" The Corporal asks with a tone of exhaustion.
"Tasty sky fliers, take from the sky and give to us." It responds again
"How are you speaking English?" Cartwright asks, seemingly astounded he forgot to ask.
"We learned from D-ahn." It responds, struggling with the name
"Dan, told you?" Cartwright asks confused.
"We learned from him not speak." It responds
"You learned from his mind?" Cartwright tries to press further
"We take his knowledge, and grant it to ourselves. We share and grow." It responds
"So you ate him and you learned what he knew?"
"Yes." It responds.

A banging can be heard around the craft.

"We will learn more."
A scream can be heard from Cartwright as the creature attacks.
