Item #: SCP-3841
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: All instances of SCP-3841 are to be kept inside a standard anomalous perennial plant containment unit modified to house fruit trees. Specimens are to be given 20 liters of water on a biweekly basis via misters. Multiple instances of SCP-3841-1 are to kept in a cryogenic storage unit at Site-███ to act as backups in the event an instance of SCP-3841 expires. Never should instances of SCP-3841 and SCP-3841-1 be kept in or exposed to an environment over 37.0°C.
Weekly maintenance checks should be made to ensure containment remains secure and at stable temperatures.
Description: Observed as a typical orchard variety apple tree (M. pumila.), SCP-3841 is a species of fruit tree belonging to the genus Malus. Though both SCP-3841 and the orchard variety apple tree are almost identical. A key difference becomes apparent when the reproductive behaviors of the specimen are observed. Unlike the typical apple tree, Instances do not require cross pollination to reproduce and are instead self-compatible. Additionally the fruit produced by SCP-3841 is exceptionally high in fructose quantity as well as each fruit giving off a variety of unrelated scents. Typically these fragrances are perceived as pleasant and pleasing and are usually similar to different varieties of fruits and flowers. Both of these qualities are believed to be used to make the fruit as appealing for consumption as possible.
The most notable anomalous qualities can be found in the seeds, referred to here on as SCP-3841-1. All instances of SCP-3841-1 are covered in a thin layer of cobalt. When exposed to temperatures of or above 37.0°C instances will begin to start emanating heat at an increasing rate, this usually capping off at around 50.0°C where a decrease in temperature will then begin as the seeds begin to naturally cool down and enter a neutral state were germination begins at a rapid rate. This entire process typically takes 12 hours on average.
Instances of SCP-3841-1 accidentally ingested during the process of eating fruit from SCP-3841 are unable to be digested once consumed by a subject due to the layer of cobalt surrounding them; and will linger in the stomach where they will then begin their reaction process after being exposed to the body temperatures of the subject. Once temperatures emanating from the instances start to reach the core body temperatures; the subject will then begin to sweat in an attempt to lower these temperatures as normal, however instead of releasing the typical fluids present in the process of sweating, the subject will begin to excrete viscous liquid with dark blue hue and extreme adhesive properties. Subjects will then begin to stick to any surface or objects they come in contact with eventually becoming immobile and soon, later typically succumb to acute hyperthermia due to the SCP-3841-1 instances. Regardless of the expiration of the subject or not, the instances of SCP-3841-1 present inside will be begin to germinate and grow into an SCP-3841 instance
Note: Despite the extreme and prolonged heat exposure, instances of SCP-3841-1 do not change state or become effected in anyway.
Note: During the heating process of SCP-3841-1 instances after consumption. All gastric acid present in the stomach eventually boils and becomes gaseous, making the germination phase possible.
Addendum 3841-01:
EXPERIMENT LOG: SCP-3841
SUBJECT: D-2863, Caucasian 32-Year-Old Female
INGESTED: One SCP-3841-1 Instance
RESULT: Subject reported feeling fine for the first five hours. Around five hours and thirty-two minutes the subject started reporting feelings of discomfort and slight pain in the abdominal region, presumably resonating from the stomach. At around six hours the subject reported growing pain. At seven hours sweating began and subject was observed to be in extreme distress as an unknown substance began excreting from their pores. Subject tries to scrape it off but accidentally gets hands stuck to arms, falls to the floor and becomes secured to the tile surface. At nine hours the subject expires from hyperthermia. At around 12 hours the body of the subject is noticeably warped from extreme temperatures of up to 100.0°C. Soon after the cool down process, green stems could be seen breaching the abdominal cavity and growing upward. New instance of SCP-3841 was terminated >shortly after, attempts to remove the adhesive from the floor are still on going.
Addendum 3841-03: Plans to cultivate more instances of SCP-3841 in an attempt to extract and farm the substances created from the reaction of SCP-3841-1 with a host for use as an adhesive in the construction of containment units and for tactical support as been proposed and is under review by the Ethics Committee.
