Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Archon

Special Containment Procedures: The presence of SCP-XXXX is currently only verified in a single residential property on the outskirts of █████, Hungary. As of this time, no other contaminated locations have been brought to the Foundation’s attention.
Due to the nature of SCP-XXXX Site-861 has been constructed around the property, disguised as a food processing facility.
No personnel are to enter the building at any time, except for testing purposes. After a subject has been exposed to the interior of the house (SCP-XXXX-1) when lighting is under 5 lux, they may not leave Site-861. The only reliable way to avoid contamination of outside locations is termination.

Update 08/11/2019: Foundation agents conducting house searches have discovered several contaminated locations in a 50 km radius of Site-861. This reveals the situation is more widespread than previously thought.

Update 10/11/2019 : House searches in other metropolitan centres in Europe revealed even more instances of contamination. Containment is not feasible at this time. Misinformation campaign is ongoing. Thankfully, psychological symptoms of SCP-XXXX roughly line up with non-anomalous cases of nyctophobia.

Description: Description SCP-XXXX is a collection of entities and phenomena perceived in contaminated dark interior spaces. It appears to spread from one room to another through the medium of the observer’s psyche.

Frequent perceptions include, but are not limited to:

  • Dark shapes moving in peripheral vision.
  • Silhouettes appearing where no silhouette should be visible, such as inside other dark objects within SCP-XXXX-1.
  • Reflective, or glowing objects appearing for up to two (2) seconds before disappearing. These usually resemble eyes, or teeth. Species unestablished, as sightings vary.
  • A feeling of claustrophobia, which subsides only when subject is completely illuminated from all sides. Subjects describe a feeling similar to travelling in a crowded elevator. If partially illuminated, subjects report an unseen presence near the parts of their body not illuminated.

Visual perceptions of SCP-XXXX phenomena are more common when subject is facing a light source, seen behind said light source. No auditorial effects have been observed connected to SCP-XXXX. Subjects describe a noticable lack of sound.

Addendum 26/01/2020: Subjects entering in protective reflective clothing, as per specifications of Dr. Atless, may request to leave Site-861 after testing, after an observation period of two (2) weeks. During this time subject is to be decontaminated via high-powered strobe light four (4) times a day. Subjects must undergo a standard psychological evaluation in a completely covered and dark temporary room, constructed for single use at the end of observation period.

Experiment logs:

  • Experiment #1: Date: 2019/06/08 | Subject: D-846711 | Subject was told to enter SCP-XXXX-1 with two (2) night-vision cameras attached via chest harness, one showing subject’s face, the other pointing forward. Subject was not informed about the anomalous properties of SCP-XXXX-1.

Upon entry the lights inside were turned off by research personnel outside. Subject immediately began perceiving SCP-XXXX, exclaiming: “Jesus fucking Christ, they’re all around me!” Subject requested to leave SCP-XXXX-1: request denied. Subject remained inside for an additional 10 minutes before being escorted to a cell in Site-861.

SCP-XXXX do not appear to be aggressive or are unable to manipulate physical reality in a significant way.

After curfew at Site-861 subject claimed to have experienced the same phenomena as within SCP-XXXX-1.

Result: Test subjects are to be escorted to temporary cells in the yard of Site-861. A high-powered floodlight to be installed in cell of D-846711, cell to be sealed permanently. D-846711 terminated. Night vision cameras couldn’t record any trace of SCP-XXXX.

  • Experiment #2: Date: 2019/06/20 | Subject: D-847545 | Subject was informed about the properties of SCP-XXXX-1 and told try talking to any perceptions of SCP-XXXX encountered.

Subject reported similar distressing feeling of claustrophobia. Subject called out a greeting but received no reply. Subject was told to try hitting one of the perceived entities. The hit did not land on anything, though subject claims to have “felt the air around him becoming angrier” Subject requested to leave SCP-XXXX-1: request denied. Subject remained inside SCP-XXXX-1 for 15 minutes, before being escorted to a temporary cell.

Subject reported same feeling of presence of entities similar to those in SCP-XXXX-1.

Result: D-847545 terminated, temporary cell deconstructed. No additional personnel reported symptoms of SCP-XXXX on site. Testing suspended due to predicted excessive loss of D-class resources.

  • Experiment #3: Date: 2020/01/20 | Subject: D-859112 | Subject was outfitted with experimental reflective gear, proposed by Dr. Atless. Subject was informed about the properties of SCP-XXXX-1.

Subject spent a total of 30 minutes inside SCP-XXXX-1. Subject did not report feeling of claustrophobia, like previous subjects. Subject did perceive visual elements of SCP-XXXX, including several pairs of eyes looking at the subject at one time. Subject was escorted to temporary cell for observation.

Psychological testing and an interview with Dr. Atless revealed no sign of contamination.

Result: D-859112 requested one (1) dim night light: request granted. Testing suspension lifted.

  • Experiment #4: 2020/02/04 | Subject: D-859112 | Subject was outfitted with same reflective gear. Subject was also equipped with a handheld flashlight and a shoulder mounted camera.

Subject was ordered to shine the flashlight at any perceived entities or anomalous sightings. Subject spent 11 minutes doing this until reporting a growing sense of unease. Subject was extracted by security personnel wearing reflective gear, after refusing to turn off the flashlight.

Observation and psychological review revealed no sign of contamination, however D-859112 did develop a serious case of non-anomalous nyctophobia.

Result: Subject: D-859112 terminated. Additional testing resources permitted by Site-861 director.
