(1895) Edvard Much's depiction of SCP-XXXX-1
Item #: SCP-XXXX - Blood-lust Parasite
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: A 600 milliliter vial of blood containing SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a 30o Celsius room at all times, and is to be cycled out for a new vial every 24 hours. Any individual confirmed to have been exposed to SCP-XXXX are to be referred to as SCP-XXXX-1. Any individual who is shown to experience common signs of SCP-XXXX is to be taken into custody immediately and isolated, avoiding any contact of bodily fluids from the individual. Anybody who comes into contact with bodily fluids from those with direct exposure to SCP-XXXX is to be quarantined along with the individual in question. SCP-XXXX-1 instances that are not kept for testing shall be terminated via a wooden stake through the heart, or force fed garlic. Any instances of SCP-XXXX-1 kept alive for testing are to be kept in a steel plated room, with a steel woven cable attached to a harness that is to be worn by SCP-XXXX-1. The only opening to the containment room is a trapdoor fixed into the ceiling. No personnel at any time are permitted to enter the containment room of SCP-XXXX-1. If testing is required, SCP-XXXX-1 is to be raised out of the room via the cable, and is to be suspended mid air by the cable during testing. Any personnel testing on SCP-XXXX samples or SCP-XXXX-1 are to be wearing a hazmat suit, any personnel with a breach in their suit must report to the nearest medical platform for blood testing.
SCP-XXXX-1 individuals that are to be kept alive for testing are to be given a 16 liter bag of human blood every 8 hours for sustenance. Every 24 hours, a 600 milliliter vial of blood is to be extracted from SCP-XXXX-1, and measured for the concentration of SCP-XXXX within the blood.
If a containment breach occurs, UV lights throughout the facility are to be turned up to maximum power, and a thorough search is to be done throughout the facility until all instances of SCP-XXXX-1 is recovered. During this period, any and all personnel are to report to the nearest shelter-in-place room available, and not permitted to leave until the breach is confirmed to be handled by the combat team that recovered SCP-XXXX-1. Upon completion of the search, all staff are to report to the medical team and submit blood testing to ensure that no cases of SCP-XXXX have spread.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a single-celled parasite originally discovered in Romania that resides in the blood of it's host, cycling through their blood stream similarly to red blood cells. Outside of a host, SCP-XXXX only has an average of 6 hours to find a new host. If a new host is not found within this time, SCP-XXXX will simply die. The parasite is contracted via bodily fluids, and quickly spreads from the entry point. The parasite will absorb red blood cells around itself, and produce a perfect copy of itself about 60 seconds after absorption. The parasite can spread from a single cell, with full effects of the parasite starting only 130 hours after exposure, with symptoms showing as early as 90 hours. At 90 hours, the victim will begin to experience a loss of pigment in their skin, as well as slight discoloration in the eyes. The victim will report feeling light headed and weak, and will likely be too weak at this point to complete basic tasks, such as lifting a glass of water. 110 hours after exposure, the victim will lose all motor functions, and lay motionless. Their heart rate will slow to around 35 beats per minute. Their skin will turn a very pale white, and become highly sensitive to UV light, causing sever burns on contact. At this stage, their eyes become cloudy and white. Studies show that the victim is still fully aware of what is happening at the time, and it is studied that brain functionality will drastically increase, making the victim more aware to his condition, yet unable to speak.
At 130 hours after exposure, the victim will have a sudden burst in their senses, strength, agility, and their body's natural regeneration rate. The victim will go into a ravenous state, as a sudden and constant rush of adrenaline courses through their body. For as long as the victim remains alive in this state, he will continue to receive this adrenaline. The victim will suddenly attack any other humans within the area, and attempt to drink their blood. It is noted that SCP-XXXX-1 only has interest in human blood, and has refused blood originating from all other organisms. It is also noted that SCP-XXXX-1 has no direct intent on killing their victim, they only have interest in drinking the blood of said victim. However, some injuries from SCP-XXXX-1 have proven fatal, and has been recorded to have killed its victims in the past. When on its' feeding frenzy, SCP-XXXX-1 will grab the nearest human and begin to drink their blood through their neck. Testing has shown that SCP-XXXX-1 will abandon pursuit if the target is unreachable, such as through a locked door or behind glass, and will find the nearest human to attempt to feed.
Addendum: A test referred to as "The Maze Test" was performed to determine the senses and intelligence of SCP-XXXX-1 was conducted with two D-class personnel, referred to as Zeta-1 and Zeta-2. The two D-class personnel were stationed at the two openings to a maze, both with 9mm pistols for use of self defense, and SCP-XXXX-1 was placed in the center. Once the cage was remotely opened, SCP-XXXX-1 began to perfectly navigate the maze without running into a single dead end, before finding Zeta-2. Shots rang out through the facility, before abruptly stopping. SCP-XXXX-1 was seen on camera heading for the opposite side of the maze, traveling at approximately 24 kilometers per hour. Zeta-1 was placed behind a number locked door, with the password written upside down above the lock. Upon finding the door, SCP-XXXX-1 had stopped in its tracks. It stood still, then took a glance at the door, before entering the password to the door. The door opened, and SCP-XXXX-1 attacked Zeta-1. A class-A sedative gas was released into the maze, sedating SCP-XXXX-1 enough to recover the anomaly. Upon inspection of SCP-XXXX-1, the bullet wounds were healing at a rapid rate, and the wounds were completely healed within 12 hours. Both D-class personnel were recovered, and were sent to the on site medical bay. Both D-class lived through the event, having bite Mark's in their necks, and a combined 16 liters of blood missing from the D-class personnel. Upon waking up, both D-class were heavily questioned about their encounter with SCP-XXXX-1. Both Zeta-1 and Zeta-2 responded with an identical story, sweating and growing pale as they delved further into the encounter. Both reported seeing a vision of [Redacted] when bitten. It is speculated that [Redacted] is where the parasite originated, yet an exact location of the described location has yet to be discovered. Eighty-six hours later, both D-class personnel were terminated, via stake through the heart, after both were confirmed to contain traces of SCP-XXXX in their blood.
A separate test, referred to as the "Feeding Experiment", was later performed to get a closer approximation to the feeding habits of SCP-XXXX-1, and was conducted with 32 death row inmates, transferred from undisclosed locations, and an instance of SCP-XXXX-1. A heavily sedated instance of SCP-XXXX-1 was placed in a room with 16 death row inmates to start. As soon as the sedation wore off, SCP-XXXX-1 attacked the first inmate, without surveying the room at all prior. After a swift bite to the neck, SCP-XXXX-1 moved on to the next inmate, and this process was repeated until all inmates had been fed on by SCP-XXXX-1. Afterwards, SCP-XXXX-1 retreated to one side of the room, seemingly losing interest in the inmates. The bitten inmates were then replaced with 8 different inmates, with no immediate response from SCP-XXXX-1. The previously bitten inmates were then tested, and were all estimated to have lost around 1 liter of blood each. SCP-XXXX-1 left the inmates alone for approximately 8 hours before it began feeding again. After complete, the 8 inmates were replaced with 4, SCP-XXXX-1 remained seemingly unaware of this change. The 8 inmates then had their blood pressure measured, and had all lost approximately 2 liters of blood. After an additional 8 hours, the four inmates were fed upon, and SCP-XXXX-1 became docile once more. Afterwards, they were replaced by the last inmate. The four recent inmates were measured to have lost approximately 4 liters of blood. After the expected 8 hours passed by, SCP-XXXX-1 attacked the final inmate, and began to feed. Afterwards, the final inmate was measured to have lost around 16 liters of blood. Results from the experiment had shown SCP-XXXX-1's innate knowledge of nearby life, as well as it's extremely specific feeding habits. SCP-XXXX-1 was ingesting exactly 16 liters of blood every 8 hours, and seemed to specifically try to drink from as many humans as possible to reach this exact number, seemingly to try and spread SCP-XXXX as much as possible. All of the inmates had SCP-XXXX in their bloodstream. 31 of the 32 inmates that took place in that experimented were then terminated via a stake to the heart, and one was kept alive to keep as another backup instance of SCP-XXXX-1.
SCP-XXXX-1 does not seem to be capable of intelligent speech or conversation, unable to speak any known language, or communicate with any other SCPs. However, it has been noted that any attempt of communication will anger SCP-XXXX-1. As such, any form of communication with SCP-XXXX-1 is prohibited. Is has also been proven that multiple SCP-XXXX-1 can coexist within the same room, yet they will not attempt to make any contact with the other instance of SCP-XXXX-1.
Reports of SCP-XXXX trace back to Transylvania, Romania, where it is believed early encounters of SCP-XXXX were told as legends, commonly known as vampires. Descriptions of these creatures match those of SCP-XXXX-1, except a few differences that were most likely developed upon stories being passed from generation to generation. In 2012, a population of bats were discovered in Romania that had the parasite in their bloodstream, yet none of the symptoms of SCP-XXXX were present. Researchers later tested SCP-XXXX on animal hosts, and results have shown that the parasite only effects human hosts. While inside of an animal host, SCP-XXXX will put itself into a form of stasis. The parasite will not replicate or ingest any blood cells, yet it will also not die.
Neither SCP-XXXX nor SCP-XXXX-1 seem to have any specific goals in mind, except to spread SCP-XXXX-1 and infect as many humans as possible. Any human who comes into visual contact with SCP-XXXX-1 will never forget, even after being administered class-A amnestics. Those who have seen instances of SCP-XXXX-1 will always report seeing a ghastly white figure that reeked of blood, and looked like fear itself.
