Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5177 is to be kept in a standard containment facility that is at least 10m away from common hallways or walkways. Monitoring of 5177 is to be only by eight (8) digital cameras as to produce a continuous stream of photos to a computer that is at least 10m away from 5177’s containment facility. When testing is not occurring, no staff are allowed near 5177’s testing room without explicit access granted by a foundation Administrator or above.
If any personnel are observed attempting to enter the facility or have been reported to have been acting erratically after working on any job related to 5177, they are to be restrained and contained until an on-staff psychological professional has deemed they are free to return to work. Any personnel who have been contained for the above reasons are to be moved to a different position permanently. Staff who work on observation of 5177 are to have weekly mental evaluations and must change to a different work area every four (4) months.
Description: SCP-5177 is a 7.62cm3(3in3) stone box. The effects of 5177 depend on on how long subjects are in it’s vicinity, time spent directly and indirectly looking at it and how long contact is with 5177. After the previously mentioned events occur, 5177 begins to manifest in the past, present and future memories of the subject. At this moment after contact, the subject will be referred to as SCP-5177-1. This SCP is to be considered conscious and all procedures are to be done in accordance to this.
SCP-5177 was first discovered after police reports from [Redacted], Tennessee of a small number of people rioting were picked up by foundation staff. MTF Epsilon-6 AKA "Village Idiots" was deployed. Five (5) instances of 5177-3 were discovered. All were eventually terminated across two (2) days with only one (1) foundation staff fatality.
While the effects of 5177 are minor at first, only appearing in older memories, having prolonged exposure to 5177 results in memories being distorted or destroyed with either only the image of 5177 in it's place or nothing at all. At this stage, 5177-1 is to be classified as 5177-2. It is only after increased exposure or around 5-6 months after shifting to 5177-2 that subjects are reclassified as 5177-3, categorized with a lack of higher brain functions along with increased strength and resistance to pain.
Personnel who have become 5177-2 and 5177-3 also display much more erratic behavior and have attempted to either destroy 5177 or bludgeon themselves with it this is with exception of the events at [redacted], Missouri and the [redacted] outbreak. At approximately 1630 hours doctor [data purged], who at the time was working on the observation of 5177, was reported to security for because of highly aggressive behavior towards himself and others,, yelling about a cube assuming to be 5177. This was before the full properties of 5177 were known and live video feed was assumed to be safe. Guards where dispatched to the quarters of doctor [data purged] at around 1635 hours. When guards attempted to detain the doctor, he showed some superhuman properties, slamming a guard into a wall with enough force to shatter the majority of the guards bones with only the frontal cranium and some appendages being fractured instead of breaking. He than forced his way through the rest of the guards while, according to other reports, yelling that he was going to "make the images stop". After battering his way through a 2.54cm (2in) steel door, he forcibly grabbed 5177 and attempted to destroy it by repeatedly slamming it into the floor, while heavily damaging the flooring, later inspections showed no damage to 5177. The breach ended at 1648 after doctor [data purged] eventually collapsed, testing is still on going into what caused this. After this breach, the current method of a series of constant photography was adopted.

At 1500 doctor Jacob Hansen fell completely under the effects of SCP-5177. After about 2 months and 9 days he completely became SCP-5177-3 with a total loss of cognitive response. Similar to the breach in 1986, he made a rush to the containment area of 5177. Due to preparation of this event there were no staff casualties and damage to the containment area was minimal. Unlike the 5177-3 event of 1986 however, instead of attempting to damage 5177, Finestein repeatedly bashed his head into it repeatedly before he was terminated by guards. Later autopsy reports on the brain of 5177-3 where inconclusive due to the amount of self damage to the brain both from guards and what was self-inflicted.

SCP-5177-1: When i first started to see the effects of it, i assumed that it was a physiological effect, god knows it was traumatizing. At least it wasn't as bad as it could have been. Okay, so regardless, I had started to notice in some of my older memories that i try to think about, you know back before I took this hellhole of a job and in them 5177 was kinda just…. there. Not the only thing I could remember, but I would remember that it was there, despite how impossible that i was.
Doctor Vassey: That's enough, thank you.

SCP-5177-2: Ahh, the effects, the effects. You see, i'm here, but my brain is far from my own now. I'm more of a husk, barley able to keep any memory of myself. It hurt at first you see, to feel my…. essence if you will being stripped away. The pain was there but i eventually didn't have it. I knew it should have hurt, but there was nothing there to associate the pain and the event.
SCP-5177-2: Like a child who burns their hand on the stove and doesn't learn to associate a hot stove with pain. There’s pain, but 5177 isn’t the cause. IT MY SALVATION!!

SCP-5177-2: But that's the great part you see, you think you've given me a warning, but what do i have to associate a punishment with? I don't know what you will or even can do to me. I know whoever you work for doesn't seem to answer to anyone, but I don't know what resources you have or powers at all! I know i have seen horrors, beings that have no right to exist, but i don't know what they could be! There’s numbers, so many but there’s no meaning behind them to me! The second we had that breach i was done for, you knew it, I now know it! What do you have to gain from me? Ask 5177 yourself, stop burdening me with all of this and end it all!

Important usage of gloves or any tool used to form contact with SCP-5177 still leaves the personnel susceptible to the effects of 5177. Testing has shown that the only ways to transport 5177 safely is by unmanned machinery. At the current moment, there are no fully safe ways to observe 5177 so observation is still to be only be conducted by lower class personnel. During containment breach, all staff members who worked with 5177 are to be taken to a separate location. If any personnel act in any way outside procedure, lethal force is authorized immediately and should be taken.
