Item #: SCP-5897

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: The artifact is to be locked in a box that is remotely opened and closed. SCP-5897 must be monitored when anyone is directly exposed to it. No further containment is necessary as the object is unable to breach on its own.

Description: SCP-5897 is present to be a sand clock approximately 8.3cm in height and 8.4 in diameter. It has scars of unknown languages thus no researchers recognize.

The artifact is unable to be broken due to experiment accidents. The clock seems to penetrate the minds of those who are in direct sight of it. If a living person is in direct exposure to SCP-5897 they will suffer hallucinations and they will be hypnotized. Experiments on people result of them being hypnotized which they describe as being transported into another universe. Contact with SCP-5897 leads to amnesia and extreme paranoia for the next few days. Images of the artist lead to the same effect as direct exposure. A Class-D personal committed suicide days after having contact with SCP-5897.

Experiment log

5897-A
Test subject: 2 Class-D personal.
Surface: Rocky sidewalk at the discovery site.
Lighting: Early morning sun lighting.
Purpose: Establishing the nature of the artifact.
Procedure: D-72██ was directed to move to the artifact. D-23██ was instructed to wait for further instructions.
Results: D-72██ moved his head looking at the artifact and was instantly freezing in place. D-23██ was sent to extract D-72██. Medical team dispatched. Both subjects are given medical treatment.
Conclusions: If the subjects have direct eye contact with the artifact they will be unable to move.

5897-B
Test subject: 2 Class-D personal.
Surface: Rocky sidewalk at the discovery site.
Lighting: Late morning sun lighting.
Purpose: Contain the artifact.
Procedure: D-23██ is given a blindfold and D-72██ is given a blindfold and a wooden box. Orders are that the artifact is put in the box and sealed ready for transportation.
Results: D-23██ grabs the artifact and puts it in the wooden box which D-72██ is holding. The box is sealed and ready for transportation.
Conclusions: SCP-5897 does no harm when physically interacted with.

5897-C
Test subject: 1 Class-D personal.
Surface: Steel floor, Site 64.
Lighting: 1 (60W) standard light bulb, located overhead the artifact.
Purpose: Establish the effects of the artifact.
Procedure: The subject will be led to the SCP-5897's test chamber so the subject is directly exposed to the artifact.
Results: The subject looked at SCP-5897 and immediately froze still. After a few minutes, the box of the artifact was closed and the subject unfroze while crying. A medical team was dispatched and the subject was given medical treatment. After questioning the Class-D subject of what happened what he saw the response was "I saw how my soul left my body and I transpired into another dimension similar to ours, like a mirror dimension. I was in the same spot but I was able to move around and I was able to hear the sand dropping from inside the SCP-5897. I was there for hours and I was only listening to the dropping sound, and then out of nowhere I blinked and I was back.".
Conclusions: SCP-5897 seems to be an interdimensional entrance.

5897-D
Test subject: 1 Class-D personal.
Surface: Steel floor, site 64.
Lighting: 1 (60W) standard light bulb, located overhead the artifact.
Purpose: Establishing if effects are applied from picture.
Procedure: The subject was equipped with a camera and instructed to take a picture of the artifact.
Results: Once the subject made eye contact with the artifact he was unable to do anything else. After a minute of waiting the artifact's box was closed. A medical team was dispatched and the subject received medical treatment. The subject was pulled for questioning and he said the same as the previous D-Class that was questioned about SCP-5897.
Conclusions: The subject could not take a picture without looking at the artifact.

5897-E
Test subject: 2 Class-D perosnal.
Surface: Steel floor, site 64.
Lighting: 1 (60W) standard light bulb, located overhead the artifact.
Purpose: Establishing if effects are applied from picture.
Procedure: The subject is equipped with a drone that has a camera fixed to it. The subject is ordered to take a picture or video using the drone.
Results: The video was shot but again the subject was hypnotized. Same as above. The video shot was shown to another Class-D personal. At the moment the subject looked at the video the same happened like all other subjects.
Conclusions: SCP-5897 applies its effects even if looked not directly but from picture or video.

5897-F
Test subject: 1 Class-D perosnal.
Surface: Steel floor, site 64.
Lighting: 1 (60W) standard light bulb, located overhead the artifact.
Purpose: Establishing if the artifact is lethal.
Procedure: The subject has been instructed that he needs to make physical, mental, and any other interaction with SCP-5897.
Results: The subject entered the room and touched the artifact multiple times, he said it feels like the sand inside the clock falls but it comes back. He lifted the artifact and in the same moment, he dropped the artifact on the floor. He opened his eyes stressed he broke it but the drop didn't even leave a scar on the glass. Once he looked at it he was transported into the mirror dimension or as the researchers started calling it - the clock dimension. The researchers left him there for 2 hours. After the 30 minutes had passed they saw that blood is dripping from his nose. Since the artifact was on the floor they got 1 more Class-D personal to put the artifact in the box. The 2nd Class-D personal was equipped with a blindfold and he successfully placed the artifact in the box. A medical team was immediately dispatched but it was too late for the Class-D. Once the artifact was closed he dropped onto the ground having a convulsion, blood dripping from his mouth and nose and suddenly he died.
Conclusions: If SCP-5897 has someone inside its dimension for more than 30 minutes there will be sudden death.

Addendum: SCP-5897 has been flagged as Euclid class. It will be transported to Site ██. Further testing needs to be approved by Level 4 clearance researcher.
