Item #: SCP-6274
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-6274 is a unknown entity trapped inside of a large metallic cube, being 25 feet in width, length, and height. The thickness of the walls is unknown, but it seems to be hallow due to the distribution of the weight. There are no signs of it being a trap either. No signs of a struggle of it trying to escape either. It was like as if the being placed itself in it willingly. SCP-6274 was originally found floating aimlessly in the oceans; the box was unnaturally light and could be carried by 4 humans easily. SCP-6274 has been captured and taken to a nearby oil rig that has already been secured by the SCP Foundation, and has been properly isolated from all civilians.
Entity is kept near the middle of the oil rig, covered by the shadows of the rooftop. No one aside from researchers and doctors may approach the metallic box, and if they approach it, must come with a clear mind and no underlying desire, as to not engage the entity within the box, for if a desire within the mind of a sentient being passes by the entity, there is a chance that it may come true in the worst form.
When monitoring the container and the being within being contained, it is vital that researchers or doctors do NOT send any forms of energy into the box, for it will disrupt the entity within and cause it to go "berserk", making a single wish from anyone's maternal desire to most likely come true in a horrid way, simultaneously, and globally. It will cause great disorder for a brief time, most likely the chaos will continue for 2-5 months before finally settling down, but afterwards, everything should return to normal.
Researches should only monitor the outside energy of the box to see what atoms are being canceled out by an equal "non-matter" and feed that into a binary code.
Whenever possible, try not to want for anything while researching it. It may cause problems.
Description: SCP-6274 seems to bring the theoretical idea of controlling a Random Event Generator (REG) to reality. The being within the box somehow controls, or compels, the randomness of the universe to make an event the entity or the sentient beings around it with maternal desires want to come true, but not in a genie-like way, for it instead creates a chain reaction from random events to make the desired outcome, and those random events could be dangerous and even life threatening to some.
SCP-6274 follows Schrödinger's Cat theory. It is unknown whether or not the being within is alive or dead, but opening up the box to find out carries too much risks, for it is still somewhat active and brings the desires of nearby sentient beings to life.
As stated earlier, it is not wise to send any forms of energy into the container. The container is already empty. It is void of all forms of energy or matter, and the only medium within it is SCP-6274, who controls the flow of the "wishes", a Holy Grail brought to reality.
Normally, controlling REG would be impossible. It would only provide a randomly generated event in the form of binary code, 0 or 1, and that would be it. But thanks to SCP-6274 being a medium, SCP-6274 is able to control the flow of the randomness without any restraint. The only thing preventing it from granting wishes left and right is the metal box containing it. The box itself isn't a SCP entity. It is man made with materials that seem to originate from Africa. The age of the material used is unknown, for using dating technology on the box now would be dangerous.
When monitoring it, researchers must only monitor the outside influence of the box. When energy disappears from the outside, it is likely because the void of energy within cancels the energy outside, creating a binary code to follow. When translating the binary code into letters, most of it will be nothing, just useless randomness, but when the code does become readable, it will describe the area of the event that is it is taking place in, whether it be in the present, or an event that takes place in the nearby or far off future. The event that takes place is most likely the "wish" the entity has granted, and is currently controlling REG to make that wish come true (hence why researchers and doctors should approach the container with clear minds and no desires, no matter how big or small).
It is theorized that if the entity is let out of the container, it would grant every and all wishes every second, all across the globe, and possibly threatening humanity. As long as it's secured, contained, and protected, it should remain neutral, and only grant an average of 3 wishes monthly across the globe.
But to clear up the misunderstanding that this entity is some kind of a genie that grants wishes, it is not. SCP-6274 is a entity that controls randomly generated events. Normally, controlling REG would be impossible, but with SCP-6274 acting as the catalyst, a medium, controlling REG is no longer a fantasy, but a reality. Using the term "wishes" or "wish granting" is just a simpler term to use when addressing what the entity can do.
When studying the hotspots where wishes were granted, it was discovered to be at areas where major events happened so naturally that it was hard for researchers to decide what was the random event and what was the result that was controlled by SCP-6274.
Each wish that was granted has assumed to be an major event being disguised as a random event that caused those unfortunate enough to be there either severe injury, death, or other indirect/direct effects that affect their wellbeing in some shape or form. Some examples include an Atheist holding a grudge against the Catholic church, resulting in a "coincidental" burning of a major Catholic church. Another case resulted in the life of a popular athlete who's life was suddenly taken away in a tragic accident. Other cases vary in similarity and impact, each one proceeding smoothly and under the radar of usual investigations, passed on as a "freak accidents."
By studying SCP-6274, it is now clear that the entity has some kind of goal in mind. It seems to be searching for another entity and is increasing the destructiveness of the chain of events and the results just to find them. It is unknown though to what extents will it go to find what it's searching for.
When studying the hotspots where the wishes were granted, it was realized that they resembled morse code, except its only an average of 3 beats per month. It's been trying to communicate, but due to its slow pacing, only 4 words have been decrypted: "Why Are You Going." It took roughly 3 years just to decode 4 words, but it was progress. The amount of wishes per month being granted was starting to speed up too, hastening the message's progress. Soon enough in give or take 6 months as of this document, the 5th word would be revealed.
It is not the entity itself that is dangerous, but the wishers, humanity's greediness. If a child were to wish to get a pet dog, and that wish were to be granted, nothing of significant impact would immediately happen and the chain reactions of random events would be somewhat minimal (though some cases resulted otherwise), but if one were to wish for murder of a man in charge of a political power, that would have a greater impact with an even more devastating chain reaction.
Addendum: Provided with several Class-D Personal, several tests were executed. Results were somewhat expected.
Test 1: Finding out what triggered SCP-6274 to grant a wish was a necessity. If the trigger was discovered, then it could be prevented.
Results: The trigger was too broad to prevent. It depended on the greed of human nature and the natural urge to want. It is impossible to stop humans from being greedy, it is a universal sin, so in theory, it is impossible to truly "contain" this entity. The only thing that the SCP Foundation can do for now is to prevent it from going berserk and to prevent it from escaping the box.
Test 2: Finding out its range is also important to predict where the next hotspots could be.
Results: The range is global and without discrimination, though it does seem to go for those that would not only impact the present, but the future as well. No discrimination, but somewhat of a preference.
Test 3: Breaking it open carries too much risk, but monitoring the inside with x-rays and sound waves shouldn't be too much of a problem. The radiation seems to penetrate the material that the box is made out of, and powerful high pitched sound waves also seem to get through.
Results: 3 minutes and 27 seconds into the test, and SCP-6274 went berserk. All across the globe, chaos reigned momentarily since a single wish from every single person was granted. Some wishes were minor and couldn't be observed. Others were major, and a lot of them accumulated into the same results, furthering discord within nations. It was chaotic, but it wasn't uncontrollable. Soon enough, everything calmed down after 12 weeks.
Conclusion: SCP-6274 is a entity that can't truly be contained. It globally grants wishes with no discrimination and only a preference for destruction. Whether it grants wishes to benefit humanity or to destroy it is still unknown. This SCP is a unique specimen that needs more observation, for some suspect it could be truly man made. The box is made of materials commonly found in Africa and is also built by humans. Who made it is unknown. Saying it grants wishes makes it sound like it came from a Disney Movie, but that's what it does. It does the impossible, controlling the randomly generated events of the universe, to create a wanted event SCP-6274 or sentient beings around it want; a literal wish from a genie. The entity within the container is sentient and has the vague goal of searching for something, though that something is unknown. What that entity is though is also unknown. Disrupting the entity within the box with any form of energy, heat, sound waves, radiation, etc., proves to be dangerous, and should be kept away from tools that can effect the interior, but studying the box's interior should be fine. If ever let out of the container, it could become extremely overwhelming. The only wise choice is to preserve it as long as possible.
