Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5179 is to have a 4 mile perimeter around it walled off under the guise of an animal preservation center. Specially trained security details are to be armed with Remington ACRs, as well as rifles loaded with elephant tranquilizers. Security is to patrol the area surrounding SCP-5179, rotating every 2 hours. Attempts should be made to subdue instances of SCP-5179-1, SCP-5179-2, SCP-5179-3, and SCP-5179-4. Attempts should be made to peacefully communicate with instances of SCP-5179-5. SCP-5179-6, SCP-5179-7, SCP-5179-8, and SCP-5179-9 are to be immediately met with lethal force. If instances of SCP-5179-1-a are seen, D-grade amnestics are to be administered to the patient. If an instance of SCP-5179-10 is spotted, MTF Lambda-12 (“Pest Control”) and MTF Eta-5 (“Jäeger Bombers”) are to be called on site immediately.
Description: SCP-5179 is a densely forested valley 2 miles in length, 1.1 mile in width, with an unknown depth. located in (REDACTED), Pennsylvania. A thick fog constantly blankets the area, leaving personnel entering SCP-5179 unable to see more than 15-20 feet in front of them. First contact appears to have been made in the mid-14th century by a previously undiscovered native tribe, who seem to have been in regular contact with various groups or “tribes” of SCP-5179-5, and appear to have defended the outside world against many of the more aggressive creatures which live inside SCP-5179. Upon entering SCP-5179 (from this point onwards, referred to as “the Valley, for brevity’s sake), sense of direction becomes nonexistent, and the length and width of the Valley seems to extend to those inside. Soon after entering, subjects begin to have vivid hallucinations (henceforth known as SCP-5179-1-a), similar to severe schizophrenia. 250 meters in, subjects inside the Valley will encounter SCP-5179-1, hence known as ‘root rats’. Root rats are seemingly plant-based creatures the size of a small dog with the external structure of a rat, and are often found in mass quantities as one goes deeper into the Valley. At approximately 720 meters in , the roots and grass around a person inside of the Valley will begin grabbing at their feet or attempting to trip them up, and SCP-5179-2 (known as “the crows”), which have the appearance of large birds with leaves for wings, will begin appearing, as well as SCP-5179-3 (sapling elk) and 5179-4 (glade wolves).
