This concept is a creature I made for a story I've been working on for a long time, a friend of mine said it'd make a great SCP, so here we are. This is a test to see what people will think of it, critique is always welcome.
SCP concept - Panthalassa
Object Class: safe
Special Containment Procedures: Due to this creature's enormous size, and ability to fly, It can never be contained. Thankfully Panthalassa is not hostile unless provoked, therefore it is allowed to roam the world as it pleases, being monitored everywhere, to prevent people from attacking it.
Description: this SCP is an incredibly large arthropod-like organism that seems to have bioelectrical abilities. This creature resides in the Venezuelan jungles, and is responsible for the Catatumbo lightning, due to it's bioelectrical abilities, which it uses as a weapon if threatened.
The beginning of it's life cycle starts at an enormous tree, roughly 237 feet tall. It's branches are shaped like a bird's nest, where in the center of this nest, grows a single large egg. Panthalassa has several stages in its development, which it transitions by molting from it's skin. Once hatching from an egg it's only 45 feet tall, and has two sections of the body. The first section contains the head and two club-like arms. These two arms can be used to 'punch' any potential attacker, moving so fast they even generate light and heat on impact. The second section contains the six legs it uses to crawl around, being very stumpy looking. The second stage is a bit larger, now being over 83 feet tall, and the club hands now being, well, hands. The third and final stage towers over it's jungle home, being over 150 feet tall, with two sets of dragonfly-like wings that reach over 1000 feet in width. In this state, Panthalassa now consits of three main segments, The first section containing it's head, it's neck being covered by a mane of beautiful, flowing hair-like filaments. the second section containing the arms, which now have opposable thumbs, and the wings, which can fold up and lay on the creatures back while walking. And the third section, containing the legs, which now are long spikes, used in potential combat. Panthalassa's most striking feature is it's bioluminescence, which has been misidentified as an angel by many people. Panthalassa was once seen by the ancient Aztec civilization, with It's mane, fuzzy wings, and bioluminescence, it inspired the myth of the Quetzalcoatl, being worshiped as a god.
Interestingly, this creature has a unique effect, whenever it visits a very dry ecosystem, it brings water and life with it. This phenomenon has happened many times in the past, when the Sahara, and even Antarctica were green, so far this effect cannot be recreated, further testing needed. Panthalassa also seems to have the ability to communicate with other gigantic creatures like itself.
Additional Notes: Recent x-ray scans of the tree Panthalassa eggs grow from reveals it to be made not of wood, bark, or anything we associate with normal trees, but muscle, and a hard exoskeleton that surrounds the trunk. The roots of the tree seem to be capable of locomotion, and at the center of it all, a metallic core. Further study is needed.
