Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a standard humanoid containment cell housed at Site-17, modified to include a desk, computer without Internet access, a large, comfortable couch. The containment cell should be restocked as needed with items from the approved supplies list, including legal pads, blue or black ink pens, and facial tissues. Any other requests from SCP-XXXX are subject to review by the Site-17 Director of Security.

Due to the cooperative nature of SCP-XXXX, the Foundation has arranged an agreement with the entity whereby it agrees to live and work exclusively within the confines of Site-17. For testing purposes, and to maintain cooperation, the entity must be granted new D-Class personnel as needed to maintain a full caseload. Per the Ethics Committee, assignment to SCP-XXXX is considered a suitable substitute for standard termination procedures.

UPDATE: as of Incident-XXXX-A, all Foundation personnel above D-class wishing to interact with SCP-XXXX must submit a detailed proposal to the Site-17 Director of Research. Staff interacting regularly with SCP-XXXX, such as custodians and guards, are to be rotated out on a monthly basis with at least three months’ separation between assignments.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a Caucasian male in his early sixties by the name of Dr. Sherman [REDACTED]. Testing has revealed no anomalous effects in SCP-XXXX's genetic structure, and its Hume levels have been shown to remain within the expected range for a non-anomalous human. Outside of its Active Phase (see below), the entity does not appear to exert any cognitohazardous or memetic effects, although the nature of the entity’s Active Phase creates some ambiguity in this regard.

SCP-XXXX was recovered on [REDACTED] in [REDACTED], California after Foundation agents were sent to investigate an apparent outbreak of necrotizing fasciitis with a mortality rate of 100%. Prior to captivity, the entity was the sole proprietor of a psychotherapy practice focused on treating cases of depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other related disorders. Foundation agents first discovered the entity’s anomalous effect when they found that all victims of the outbreak were recently discharged clients of said practice.

When Foundation agents confronted SCP-XXXX about the former clients, it was “extremely polite and helpful,”1 although it refused to confirm or deny knowledge of their condition after treatment, beyond offering condolences at the mention of their deaths. SCP-XXXX submitted willingly to Foundation custody and later requested a meeting with Site-17 leadership. During this meeting, [REDACTED] and the above agreement was approved.

Ongoing research with D-class personnel has allowed researchers to chart the progression of SCP-XXXX’s Active Phase, which follows five distinct stages.

SCP-XXXX Active Phase Progression
Stage 1: SCP-XXXX initiates “treatment” of a new “client” (designated SCP-XXXX-1) and conducts several introductory sessions that include rapport-building, diagnosis, and formulation of a treatment plan. Depending on the severity of SCP-XXXX-1’s condition, this stage typically lasts 3-9 months. During this phase, SCP-XXXX deploys a number of treatment modalities currently accepted within the discipline of psychology.
Stage 2: Once SCP-XXXX-1 has reached a point of consistent psychological stability, the entity questions their overall level of happiness until SCP-XXXX-1 admits to occasional feelings of dissatisfaction. At this point, SCP-XXXX presents the “Expanded Scale of Trauma,” a treatment modality which it claims to have invented. This becomes the main topic of discussion for all ensuing sessions.
SECURITY NOTE: Stage 2 is the last stage at which an instance of SCP-XXXX-1 can be recovered. Instances recovered at this stage retain the benefits of psychological counseling without any anomalous effects. However, due to the ambiguous point of transition between Stages 2 and 3, it is not recommended forbidden to use SCP-XXXX’s Active Phase as a substitute for normative treatment.
Stage 3: SCP-XXXX-1 expresses unlimited feelings of happiness and peace of mind, causing SCP-XXXX to praise them for their progress and “graduate” them from treatment.
Stage 4: SCP-XXXX-1 returns to their daily life while retaining the permanent sense of well-being from Stage 3. Testing has revealed that these feelings withstand experiences that would traumatize a psychologically normative adult human, including torture, the deaths of loved ones, and [REDACTED] Within 5-15 days, SCP-XXXX-1 will progress to Stage 5.
Stage 5: Without expiring, the body of SCP-XXXX-1 undergoes the process of decomposition. The instance remains alert and active for as long as their major bodily functions can continue. Notably, SCP-XXXX-1 retains their feelings of well-being and will politely decline any treatment options offered to them, though they will not resist treatments applied by force. To date, all known instances of SCP-XXXX-1 have progressed to death, and there exists no known treatment option for retarding or cancelling out Stage 5.

Addendum 1: Once researchers had fully documented SCP-XXXX's Active Phase, Dr. Malcolm Ganes volunteered to interview SCP-XXXX for the purposes of ascertaining the entity’s motives.

Addendum 2: Object Class upgrade to Euclid approved. Containment procedures updated.
