Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: Due to the risks inherent to moving SCP-XXXX, it has been permanently contained to Site ██ located approximately ███ kilometers from any major population. The airspace above the site has been designated as a no-fly zone, with the facility being marked as a government research facility off-limits for civilians.

A 20 km radius around the subject has been designated as the Black Zone. Anyone found entering the radius without verified orders is to be considered hostile and shot on site. Interactions are severely limited and restricted to Level 4 Researchers. All researchers leaving the Black Zone must undergo immediate psych evaluations proceeded by a full-body scan.

Changes in the organism's behavior must be reported immediately to O-5 Command and orders must be received before any further action is taken. In the event of a breach, the warheads in the facility must be immediately detonated. Task Force [ DATA EXPUNGED ] is stationed at the facility in the event of a breach to reach the warhead and successfully detonate it.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a tree approximately 91 meters in height, most closely resembling wild teak, colloquially known as Bloodwood. The tree has a dark brown bark with streaks of neon green running through it. The leaves are the color of blood, and when the bark is injured the tree leaks red sap. The wood underneath is the same color as the streaks that run through the bark.

The tree was originally located in a small village called █████ , located ██ kilometers from [ DATA EXPUNGED ] The Foundation discovered it after an XK-Class End of the World Event was almost initiated by a villager on ██ / █ / 20██ . Luckily, testing with SCP-738 revealed the date of the event and the Foundation was able to stop it, though not without heavy loss of life.

The tree has several anomalous effects that it uses with the goal of getting a human to remove one of its branches. The first effect is a cognitohazard surrounding the tree that heightens bloodlust in humans. The more time a subject is exposed to the tree, the more exponential their bloodlust grows. This manifests in humans as raised adrenalin levels, higher body temperature, and shortened tempers. Long term exposure to this hazard can cause violent outbursts, heart attacks, strokes and heat strokes in subjects. Currently, tests show that this effect does not affect non-humanoid creatures. Due to the inherent risks, it has not been tested on other humanoids. Currently pending approval from O-5 Command.1 The radius of this effect changes the longer the tree goes without being fed. The limit of this effect is 50 kilometers from the epicenter of the tree. There does not seem to be an upper limit to how large the radius can get. It is recommended to feed the tree once three times a week.

The second anomalous effect only activates once a human subject takes a branch from the tree. Branches do not seem to be shed naturally from the tree over time. The tree seems to be able to manipulate its branches into dropping at will. Once human skin comes in contact with the bark, the sap covers the subject's hand, making it nearly impossible to remove the branch from their grasp. Attempts to wear protective gear do not inhibit this trigger. Subjects all describe this process as an excruciating burning sensation. Once the branch is bonded to a host, the secondary effect activates. The subject becomes able to disintegrate any organic matter within eyesight by pointing the branch at the object and willing it. So far there does not seem to be an upper limit on how large an object it can destroy. Each destruction causes the branch to grow larger and allows it to target more subjects at a time. Due to the risks, there has not been a test to determine how powerful it can grow.

The third effect of the wand is another cognitohazard. As the subject uses the branch, whispering can be heard. The number and size of the objects destroyed seem to correlate to how loud and influential the voice is. Subjects all describe it as the voice of "Oblivion" with the same message being repeated. The transcript is located at the bottom of this document. Long term exposure to this effect causes subjects to suffer from megalomania, narcissistic tendencies, psychopathy, and a "God Complex". As of yet, amnestics do not seem to reverse the symptoms.

The tree does not seem to be more durable than what is expected, but any attempts to destroy the tree causes the organism to enter a frenzied state. In this state, the radius of its cognitohazard expands to [ DATA EXPUNGED ] and a large number of branches are dropped from its canopy. Humans in the area of effect are unable to resist the cognitohazard and will enter a frenzied state of their own where they will indiscriminately kill anything in their site. Any branch wielders killed will drop the branch on death and the branches can be incorporated into one another to make them stronger. This includes attempts to uproot or relocate the tree to another location. After a frenzy, the tree's effect seems to stop for several days, though any damage to it during this time can re-trigger another attempt.

The tree must be fed with a minimum of 10 liters of blood and 10 kilograms of bone at least three times a week. The usage of human blood and bone reduces the requirements to 3 liters of blood and 3 kilos of bones, but due to the expense animal products are used. Failure to feed the tree on time can result in nightmares, auditory and visual hallucinations along with the radius of the cognitohazard increasing. The tree also seems to have a lasting effect on anyone who has entered its radius, with the tree being able to enter their dreams to communicate. It is currently hypothesized that the tree is sapient due to its limited communications.
