Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained in a 9 square meter room, with the door kept sealed if it is the only one present inside. One table with two chairs on each side is expected to be kept in adequate shape, with one writing utensil and a small-to-medium sized stack of paper to keep SCP-XXXX thoroughly preoccupied. Food is not needed to be served in any specific quantity, but SCP-XXXX will need eight ounces of water every few hours in order to maintain its voice. Snacks are allowed if ever asked for, but are not crucial for the containment; personnel must be wise in what requests to fulfill for the specimen, as suspicions have arose of it being somewhat malcontent with its circumstances (despite claims to the contrary).
Only those fully aware of SCP-XXXX's anomaly and are capable of taking the proper precautions to either not trigger it or remain safe if said anomaly is triggered are permitted to enter its chambers in order to either conduct serious experiments or to have a conversation. Because of the specifics of SCP-XXXX's anomaly making it perfectly safe in the right circumstances, high clearance is not necessary. However, those who accidentally or purposefully trigger this anomaly outside of planned tests shall be banned from entering again for one week, with further bans increasing gradually by an additional week indefinitely.
Although SCP-XXXX has shown to have no physical reaction to violence acted upon them, such as permanent bruising or broken limbs, it is suggested to not to attempt to harm it as part of a test, as evidence as shown this is likely to make SCP-XXXX reluctant or even afraid to conduct further tests regardless of apparent danger. Scientists are interested in determining if this is due to psychological reasons related to its anomaly, or simply an inherent instinct formed by prior events.
Description: SCP-XXXX resembles a young adult male in all-grey clothing suffering from a form of severe speech impairment with no other abnormalities immediately apparent; SCP-XXXX does not show ignorance to its condition, but is resigned in the fact that it is unable to communicate further. Prior tests with the set goal of finding a way to get SCP-XXXX to communicate more extensively have ended poorly, and further tests of this nature have been suspended.
SCP-XXXX's speech only consists of the words 'yes' or 'no,' which it will use to respond to either yes or no questions, or statements it either agrees or disagrees with. While this in of itself is no cause for concern, the additional anomaly coinciding with this has been, and is the sole reason for its current tests. SCP-XXXX will answer any question asked to it, under the conditions that said question is spoken in English and is able to be heard and understood by SCP-XXXX; it will do so completely truthfully (as proven by lie detector tests,) as well as factually. This extends to knowledge of geography, science, English literature and history, along with some assorted aspects of the Foundation.
Prior to the discovery of its other anomalistic characteristic, those testing SCP-XXXX were almost considering ruling it as a false alarm, and simply a well-informed speech-impaired human. However, further research and testing have found that upon asking SCP-XXXX a question that is not a yes-or-no question, it will reach a state of intense emotional distress and attempt to physically and fatally harm whoever has asked it. Upon taking significant damage, whether or not it is potent enough to knock them unconscious, SCP-XXXX will exit this state and return to its regular emotional state after a brief moment of confusion. Questioning has confirmed that SCP-XXXX, while unable to remember its outbursts, has grown aware of them because of its frequent lapses in memory, and is somewhat apologetic.
A proposal has been made to attempt to teach SCP-XXXX how to read and write, not just to provide it with a method in which to preoccupy itself, but to try and find an alternative way of accessing the information that it appears to hold. Progress has been slow, with SCP-XXXX having trouble beyond numbers 1-99, but it shows a craving to learn in order to best communicate.
Testing has shown that SCP-XXXX is emotionally aware, able to perceive how people are feeling when asking questions; this has arouse suspicion that some questions will be deliberately answered false in order to avoid the risk of making the other person feel negatively about themselves. Lie detector tests have proven this to appear false, but a possibility exists of SCP-XXXX being fully capable of keeping itself calm in order to avoid triggering the device; further tests with this method have been suspended until further notice.
While it has shown willingness to learn other languages, testing in this field would be a waste of Foundation resources, and all who wish to interact with SCP-XXXX will be tasked to learn at least a limited amount of the English language.
Document XXXX-1: The following is a transcript taken of one of one of SCP-XXXX's first standard tests immediately after to learning of SCP-XXXX's limited speech, but before any other discoveries had been made. All following tests were made to be as safely done as possible to avoid causing another unfortunate happenstance.
Dr. Pariffin: [Hello SCP-XXXX. Are you doing well?]
SCP-XXXX: [Yes.]
Dr. Pariffin: [Would you say you are feeling comfortable?]
SCP-XXXX: (Pauses.) [Yes.]
Dr. Pariffin: [Is there a reason you hesitated?]
SCP-XXXX: [Yes.]
Dr. Pariffin: [Were you unsure of your answer?]
SCP-XXXX: [No.]
Dr. Pariffin: [Do you feel you answered honestly?]
SCP-XXXX: [No.]
Dr. Pariffin: [Do you think there is a chance of us being upset by your answers?]
SCP-XXXX: [Yes.]
Dr. Pariffin: [Are you afraid of what we will do if you give an answer that reflects on us negatively?]
SCP-XXXX: [Yes.]Dr. Pariffin: [Why might that be?]
(SCP-XXXX proceeded to stand up, lift chair and throw it across the table at Dr. Pariffin before attempting to climb under said table in order to reach Dr. Pariffin, who had been taken off guard and incapacitated. Personnel present to observe this test soon opened the door, removed Dr. Pariffin from the room, and sealed the door before SCP-XXXX could come out. Once the doctor was no longer within line of sight, SCP-XXXX appeared calm, as seen just before the incident occurred, and chose to move the remaining chair to the other side of the table to sit back down.)
Closing Statement: [The interview gave valuable information on the way in which SCP-XXXX will choose to answer certain questions, and was the first documented incidence of its response to non-standard questions. It prompted further research be done into sightings of SCP-XXXX.]
Document XXXX-2: The following transcript is taken from an interview conducted a day later, in which Dr. ██████ had been assigned to replace Dr. Pariffin in conducting these interviews until he had been brought back into full health.
Dr. ██████ : [Do you remember Dr. Pariffin from the other day?]
SCP-XXXX: [Yes.]
Dr. ██████ : [Do you know why he's not here?]
SCP-XXXX: [No.]Dr. ██████ ** [Do you not remember the end of the interview, where you had thrown a chair at him?]
SCP-XXXX:** (Appears confused.) [No.]
Dr. ██████ : [Is this the first time you've heard about this occurring?]SCP-XXXX: [No.]
Dr. ██████ : [And did you have any negative feelings toward Dr. Pariffin before?]
SCP-XXXX: [No.]Dr. ██████ : [Can you imagine a reason you would attack him for asking any particular question and not remember it?]
SCP-XXXX: [No.]
Dr. ██████ : [Do you hope to see him again in the near future?]
SCP-XXXX: [Yes.]
Dr. ██████ : [Now, do you know anything about our facility?]SCP-XXXX: [Yes.]
Dr. ██████ : [If you left this facility, and were not stopped, would you answer anyone's questions about it?]SCP-XXXX: [No.]
Dr. ██████ : [Do you have any reason to try and protect the information you may hold about our Foundation?]
SCP-XXXX: [No.]
Dr. ██████ : [Are you under the impression that if you left, nobody would ask for information?]
SCP-XXXX: [Yes.]
Dr. ██████ : [Does that stem from an assumption that people are not interested in what has happened to you?]
SCP-XXXX: [No.]
Dr. ██████ : [Do you say 'no' because you do not think this as an assumption?]
SCP-XXXX: [Yes.]
Dr. ██████ : [Is there anything you would like changed about your area?]
SCP-XXXX: (Gestures downward to empty table) [Yes.]
Dr. ██████ : [Thank you for being clear. Do you wish to have something to preoccupy yourself with? Perhaps a book, or writing utensils?]
SCP-XXXX: [Yes, no, yes.]
Dr. ██████ : [We will see if it is possible to give you a blank notebook and something to write on it with. Does that sound acceptable?]
SCP-XXXX: [Yes.]
Dr. ██████ : [Good. Is there anything else you might want?]
SCP-XXXX: [Yes.]
Dr. ██████ : [You did not show any desire for anything to eat when you were first brought here. Would you desire something to drink on occasion?]
SCP-XXXX: [Yes.]
Dr. ██████ : [I will see what I can do about that. Will you be fine with remaining alone for the time being? There is somewhere I need to be.]
SCP-XXXX: (Pauses.) [Yes.]
Closing Statement: [Following this interview, water began to be provided to SCP-XXXX, along with a writing utensil and paper, and further research was done into what sort of personal life SCP-XXXX had prior to being brought to the facility.]
