Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX-1 is to be contained within a 16x16, self-supporting room. The room is to be fitted with closed ecological life-support systems (Henceforth referred to as CELSS), and it to be monitored at all times. Access to the containment cell is to only be accessible via a Quarantine Unit, and any implements provided to SCP-XXXX-1 are to be incinerated within the unit. SCP-XXXX-1 is by no means allowed to leave this containment area, and any staff interacting with the subject are to only do so within a Hazardous Materials suit, and are to remain in the Quarantine unit for six hours following interaction.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a form of Bacterium found natively across several regions in Eastern █████ (See Addendum-01). SCP-XXXX is a highly infectious pathogen, capable of spreading via numerous routes of transmission, but despite this it bears no negative traits. Individuals carrying SCP-XXXX will be unaware of such, and alone SCP-XXXX causes no harm to any host - Current observations suggest SCP-XXXX is incapable of infecting a human host. The pathogen features anomalous traits, as despite remaining a unicellular organism it is capable of mimicking surrounding cells. The only way SCP-XXXX can be identified natively is when isolated from any other organism other than itself.

SCP-XXXX was first identified by embedded Foundation Agent's operating within a Hospital in ██████████, ██████, when reports of an unknown disease outbreak were identified. These operatives were later infected and expired, but were able to report their findings. Later operatives, who were inserted with Hazmat gear, investigated the symptoms of the disease, characterised by muscular spasms across the entire body of an infected individual. Infected individuals have described the feeling as involuntary, and have stated it feels as if their muscles are being pulled, not moved. Infected individuals remain conscious until expiration, and are unable to eat, sleep or rest until such. Muscular spasms continue to affect the subject until their death, the cause of death varying from exhaustion, dehydration due to excess sweating, heart attacks and strokes. The rapid, jerky movements of the infected are similar in form to violent dance movements, and local news identified it as '███████ ██ ██ █████', translated as 'Dancing Sickness'.

SCP-XXXX-1 is a Caucasian male with blue eyes and auburn hair, with little to no discernible, outstanding features. SCP-XXXX-1 was obtained following a search of ██████████, having been identified as a focal point for infection due to those it interacted with falling ill shortly after. Testing of the subject's DNA has revealed that SCP-XXXX-1 is a carrier of a gene not present in the general population. Current theories place this gene as being recessive, however, it is possible that such was a voluntary inclusion for unknown purposes. The subjects' recessive gene does not cause any outward defects. It is believed that

When SCP-XXXX-1 comes into contact with SCP-XXXX, a rapid change in the bacterium will occur. SCP-XXXX will become highly contagious, solely targetting humans but being capable of being transported by non-human vectors. Upon infecting a target SCP-XXXX will cause the reported symptoms, seemingly by hijacking cells and rewriting their DNA. DNA analysis of deceased infected has revealed core changes in the coding of the DNA within muscle cells, with DNA bases being inserted or otherwise replacing existing nucleobases. These inserted bases are not not otherwise naturally found in other life forms.

SCP-XXXX-1's family history suggests that an ancestor of the subject, '████ ███████', was a resident of the same region as SCP-XXXX-1 during an outbreak of similar symptoms in the early 16th century. It is reported, however, that this subject perished during the outbreak. Research is ongoing as to why SCP-XXXX-1 has yet to do so, though most theories point towards the recessive gene as probable cause.

ADDENDUM-01

On ██/██/17, Foundation Agents operating in the Quarantine Zone identified a pair of texts in local records dating from the period of the initial outbreak in the 16th century. The texts were all identified as being written in Adytite script, and seals suggest they are related to forebearers of GOI-0385[[footnote] Active primarily throughout Europe, the Esoteric Order of the White Worm (Fehér Féreg Ezoterikus Rend) is a Sarkic cult disguised as an occult themed fraternal organization. Similar to other "secret societies", the existence of the cult is an open secret while its true nature is unknown to the general population. [/footnote]], or with similar groups. The second appears to have never been sent. The texts were confiscated and translated, and have been presented below.

A third later, dated ██/██/16, was found in the house of a deceased infected, clutched in his hands - Burns were found across his right hand and wrist. The letter, itself partially burned, appeared to have been snatched out of the fire by its holder during a state of infection. While it's content suggests it belongs to an offshoot of this earlier group, or at the least of the later developed GOI, there is no evidence clearly suggesting a source, author, or any other route to finding those behind it. A to the aim of identifying such venues is ongoing.

It is believed that this message involved instructions to a member of this Sarkic group, revolving around the seizing of SCP-XXXX, which is now assumed to be the remaining bodies of the 'plague of virulent ability' mentioned in prior texts. It is presumed that the one who received the text was successful in forming modern examples of SCP-XXXX, before they were triggered by SCP-XXXX-1. With this new information in mind, SCP-XXXX-was interviewed for his connections, if any, to this GOI. The contents of this interview may be found below.
