Doctor Ridge's SCP-5358

Item #: SCP-5358

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5358 is to be contained within a wet cardboard box from 8:00 am to 9:23 pm. This box must be monitored specifically within that time range to ensure that it will not escape from its box. Outside of this time range, SCP-5358 should be kept under a heat lamp at 35˚celsius to ensure it has not yet drowned from prolonged moisture exposure. Personnel may not let it interact with any other SCP. If it has already started to interact with another SCP-5358, leave the SCP-5358 untouched until the other SCP has left the perimeter. Further interaction will warrant the removal from the premises and disposal with sterilized nitrile gloves.

Description: SCP-5358 is a specimen of a sponge. A majority of the species have a yellow pigment with an unknown orange stain. These specimens are widely found within the islands of Tonga, possibly originating on Lafuka. Lately, specimen have been traveling on sailboats and cargo ships to get into the mainland of Asia and Oceania. Sightings are more common within Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, and it's widely speculated that some may be found in Vanuatu.

The currently contained specimen have tried to reproduce more offspring, but the process has failed in the experiments conducted in recent years. Despite this, officials are trying to conclude how more and more are being spotted, but without the orange stain. Some are skeptical as to whether this was a possible anomaly relating to the reproduction of SCP-5358, or rather ordinary kitchen sponges.
