Threat Level: Yellow
Item #: SCP-5079
Object Class: Euclid
Important
Following the events described in 5079-7, all research personnel working on SCP-5079 are required to attend psychological evaluation at least once every two weeks. All Foundation personnel who interact with SCP-5079 research personnel are also instructed to report if they believe any of SCP-5079's research personnel appear to be acting differently than usual. All new personnel instructed to work on SCP-5079 need to be psychologically diagnosed with a mental fortitude of above average.
— Dr.███████ █████
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5079 is to be located within a 3m by 3m room at a remote wing of Site 15. The minimum amount of people are to be in close proximity with SCP-5079 at all times (be it within or outside its containment room), as such there is no security stationed in front of SCP-5079’s room and all research personnel must report whenever they go to the observation room. A maximum of 3 research personnel are to be allowed into the observation room, being of clearance Level 2 or above and only if formerly approved by Site 15 Level 4 Dr.███████ █████. Due to the nature of SCP-5079 anomalous activity (see description), and to ensure that it doesn’t escape, a room adjacent to SCP-5079’s containment room has been built and is inhabited by at least 3 D-class personnel, designated as the "Rec-room". When a D-class becomes affected by SCP-5079 he is to be transfered to the containment room and the other D-class personnel in the Rec-room are to be administered amnestics. A new D-class is also to be transfered to the Rec-room.
Description: The physical appearance, if it even possesses one, of SCP-5079 is currently unknown. The current understanding of SCP-5079 corresponds to it being an entity capable of jumping between human’s consciousness, however, it only does so after the human it had been possessing dies. There have been no known instances of a person being possessed by SCP-5079’s anomalous properties having survived and as such the SCP is considered extremely dangerous. Attempts to kill, or at least disrupt, SCP-5079 have been carried out by terminating D-class personnel who had been possessed by it, to no avail. SCP-5079 jumps to a new consciousness whether the person it had been possessing dies from its anomalous properties or from external forces. When someone is subjected to SCP-5079’s anomalous properties his entire thinking capability seizes. People subjected to SCP-5079 seize all physical or mental capabilities, aside from sporadically twitching their fingers and continuously doing a chewing motion with their jaw. These instances have, so far, been the only identifying characteristics someone subjected to SCP-5079 displays.
SCP-5079 was first discovered on ██/██/████ after staff member of Site 17, Dr.███████, was found in his office twitching his fingers agaisnt the table and chewing uncontrollably. Medical staff of Site 17 believed Dr.███████ was suffering from some sort of mental affliction, most likely acute psychosis, and placed him in the medical ward of the facility. A few hours after Dr.███████ was interned security footage show him dying (his heart and brain activity simply seized) and, immediately after the doctors death, one of the guards stationed near the medical ward became afflicted with the same “acute psychosis” Dr.███████ had been suffering.
After this second instance the first suspicions of anomalous activity where denoted and the afflicted guard was placed in containment. Further studies ended up concluding that, after someone possessed by SCP-5079 dies, the SCP possesses whomever is nearest to him. This characteristic led to the construction of a separate wing within Site 15, containing all the specifications listed in SCP-5079’s special containment procedures.
Addendum 5079-1: After approval by Site 15 Level 4 Dr.███████ █████, scans to the brains of subjects affected by SCP-5079 were initiated, however, a strange fenomenon occured after the first couple of instances. The first two scans showed that the subjects brains had, despite their apparent coma, an high level of activity. However, after those two initial scans they begun demonstrating a further anomalous ocurrence designated as SCP-5079-1. All screens connected to the brain scanning devices of SCP-5079's victims now display video footage of the victims 'life'. It appears SCP-5079's main anomalous occurence consists in it transfering the conciousness of whomever he is possessing to an alternate reality, perhaps even an alternate universe. The fact that SCP-5079-1 didn't occur within the first couple of scans leads to the assumption that SCP-5079 might be capable of some level of sentience and adaptability.
Further studies are required.
Addendum 5079-2: Aditional D-class personnel have been possessed by SCP-5079's anomalous activity and further scans have also been carried out. The video files collected from those scans seem to show consistencies between all of the subjects. After coming in contact with SCP-5079's anomalous activity their consciousnesses are all transfered to the same place/plane. In this 'place' there is a small island with small patches of grass, a big apple tree and a small (seemingly man-made) fountain. An interesting characteristic to note is that the apples from the tree are golden in colour and seem to dimly shine when exposed to sunlight. All subjects have so far been transported to this 'place' with full knowledge of their lives and remembering several details up until the moment SCP-5079 came into contact with them.
Addendum 5079-3: After request from Site 15 Level 4 Dr.███████ █████, in an effort to make reports more intuitive and easy to read (lazy fuck… like any of this mess is "intuitive and easy to read").Actually, I'm surprised he even reads these., people subjected to the anomalous effects of SCP-5079 are now designated as SCP-5079-ADAM.
An interesting fenomenon has been studied over the last couple of weeks. It appears that, as long as SCP-5079-ADAM is connected to any kind of scanning device, the video footage resulting from SCP-5079-1 continues to update. The size of the videos recorded from the various SCP-5079-ADAM is massive, each ranging for thousands of hours [equivalent to a few dozen years], and a new server is currently being installed in the observation room to store said videos. Fast fowarding through the videos, we have denoted a common occurence between all of them. Counting the ammount of video hours and the age of SCP-5079-ADAM (before they were possessed by SCP-5079) we have discovered that SCP-5079-ADAM dies once its age in the SCP-5079 'plain' reaches 7 months and 77 years.
New directives will now be given to SCP-5079-ADAM in an attempt to further understand SCP-5079's nature and capabilities.
Addendum 5079-4:
| Test 5079-1 |
|
| Protocol |
SCP-5079-ADAM is instructed to kill himself by drowning. |
| Results |
SCP-5079-ADAM is unable to willingly drown himself. SCP-5079-ADAM ties stones from the fountain to his legs and proceeds to walk into the ocean. SCP-5079-1 shows that SCP-5079-ADAM was somehow impeded from drowning and the remaining footage is of him stranded in the ocean bottom, constantly struggling for air. |
| Test 5079-2 |
|
| Protocol |
SCP-5079-ADAM is instructed to kill himself by bashing his own head. |
| Results |
SCP-5079-ADAM is seen running head first into the trunk of the apple tree several times. On his fourth attempt SCP-5079-ADAM cracks open his skull and passes out (some brain matter is seen scattered on the floor). After a few hours SCP-5079-ADAM wakes up with his wound healed up. His mental capabilities, however, were severely damaged. |
| Test 5079-3 |
|
| Protocol |
SCP-5079-ADAM is instructed to burn the apple tree using primitive fire-starting methods. |
| Results |
SCP-5079-ADAM is unnable to start any kind of fires and the weather begins to progressively get worse, with harsh rains and lightstorms. After SCP-5079-ADAM stopped his attempts to burn the tree the weather returned to normal. |
| Test 5079-4 |
|
| Protocol |
SCP-5079-ADAM is instructed to not eat any of the apples. |
| Results |
SCP-5079-ADAM is able to not eat any apple for 7 days. On the eight day SCP-5079-ADAM is seen rambling and agitated and after a few hours he ends up eating one of the apples. After eating the apple SCP-5079-ADAM began crying. SCP-5079-ADAM made further attempts to refrain from consuming any apple (even resorting to eating some of the grass patches on the island). All further attempts, however, ended with the same result. |
| Final Notes |
|
| All tests conducted under instruction of SCP-5079's main researcher Dr.██████ |
The conducted tests yielded little results in regards to our expectations. There appears to be no way to disrupt SCP-5079's anomalous activity.
In spite of that, the results of Test 5079-3 seem to corroborate our earlier assumptions that SCP-5079 carries some sort of sentience. |
Addendum 5079-5: Newer D-class personnel (preferably between the ages of 18 and 25) are to be accommodated in the room adjacent to SCP-5079's containment room (so as to ensure any SCP-5079-ADAM "lasts longer"). By request of SCP-5079's main researcher, Dr.██████.
Addendum 5079-6: Several weeks have passed and all further studies led to conclusions previously discovered. It appears we have found everything we can about SCP-5079. I have requested to be allocated to a different project within the facility but Dr.███████ █████ thinks its best I remain as the main researcher of SCP-5079.
Addendum 5079-7:
Begin Log:
I… I really don't think I can keep doing this anymore. The things I've seen, the… the things I've had to do. You know, when I first joined the Foundation I believed it to be right. Secure, Contain, Protect. Seems like a noble goal, right? A chance to help humanity. But we don't help humanity, we simply keep it in ignorance: constantly under threat from forces they don't even know exist! The greater good it… it isn't an excuse to let go of our morals. The Foundation thinks losing your humanity to preserve the humanity of the world is correct. I'm afraid I no longer agree with that. The Foundation has tried and the Foundation has failed, so, why do we keep doing the same things? I wonder how many fuckups I'm not "cleared" enough to know about. Bullshit! There is no clearance when it comes to this. People deserve to know the truth.
███, I'm sorry I'm doing this without ever telling you… without ever telling you how I truly felt. We've been at this for what? 20 years now? We make a good team ███. Thanks for always being there. Do you remember our first assignment? I think he was right you know… in reality everything we know is just a tiny grain of sand. And, if that's so, why suffer any longer? Why suffer at all?
End log
Two minutes after the audio file was recorded, video footage shows Dr.██████ entering SCP-5079's containment room with a sidearm on his right hand. Dr.██████ then proceded to shoot SCP-5079-ADAM in the head, after which point Dr.██████ became affected by SCP-5079. The remote location of SCP-5079's containment room within Site 15 and the absence of security stationed nearby made this incident go unnoticed for 6 hours (the incident was only found when Junior researcher Dr.███ entered the adjacent observation room). No video footage of Dr.██████'s experience within SCP-5079 was recorded. When Junior researcher Dr.███ found the incident Dr.██████ was already dead and SCP-5079 had moved to one of the D-class stationed in the Rec-room.
Interview log 5079-A:
Interview carried out by SCP-5079's new lead researcher, Dr.███, upon granted request from the O5 council. Interviewee: SCP-343. Location of Interview: SCP-343’s containment room.
-Dr.███: Good evening, I’m Dr.███ and I would like to ask you a few questions regarding one of the SCP’s we currently have under containment. Would that be alright to you?
-SCP-343: Of course, I believe I have never given any indication that would suspect otherwise. I assure you I will answer any question I can and whose answer I believe would be beneficial to your Foundation.
-Dr.███: Perfect. Now are you familiar with the entity we at the Foundation call SCP-5079?
-SCP-343: Yes, I am.
-Dr.███: And are you aware that the entity was first discovered by the Foundation here at Site 17?
-SCP-343: Yes.
-Dr.███: Then perhaps you can already surmise why I have requested this interview?
-SCP-343: Yes doctor, and in fact I’m surprised you didn't come here sooner.
-Dr.███: I suppose you’re telling me that our assumptions were right then? That SCP-5079 is the Adam portrayed in most Abrahamic faiths?
-SCP-343: Not quite.
-Dr.███: Could you please elaborate?
-SCP-343: He isn’t Adam, doctor. He was also never meant to still exist. What you call SCP-5079 is a curse I placed upon the first child of Earth. He is not Adam, not really. He is a punishment I gave Adam. How it is still 'alive' is something beyond my control.
-Dr.███: Alright, you’ll have to pardon my French but my best mate killed himself less than a week ago and I haven't had 5 minutes to fucking grief! What the fuck am I supposed to do with that! Now, I know you like to keep suspense and whatnot, but please, spare me the time and give me the whole damned answer.
-SCP-343: Please doctor, let’s remain civil. *SCP-343 sighs* I taught Adam all he needed to know. I gave him Eden and, when I made Eve from his own rib, I showed him that sacrifice leads to reward. To salvation. And I gave him only one sacrifice "Do not eat from the apple tree"; it didn’t have any real motive it was simply something for him to show his faith and penance. Despite all I gave and taught him, he still decided to go against my orders and fall to temptation. I admit that perhaps my punishment was a bit rash, but at the time I was filled with rage. And rage can lead anyone to act wrongly.
-Dr.███: *sound of a cigarette being lit* Ok, that’s more like the kind of answer I’m looking for. I do apologise for my previous behaviour. Now, you said that SCP-5079 still being 'alive' is beyond your control?
-SCP-343: I didn’t create SCP-5079. I created its effect and I made Adam suffer through it. He didn’t die, however, unlike what happens now if I am not mistaken. He carried on with his life and he learned from his mistake. What I didn’t predict was that the curse would remain inside Adam and that, when he died, he would become part of the curse itself.
-Dr.███: I take it that means you are powerless to stop it as well?
-SCP-343: Yes, and nor do I intend to. The Foundation only found SCP-5079 after it had already come to me. I saw his anger towards me, towards what I did to him, but I also saw his pain. What I did to him is something I never intended. Even worse doctor, it is something I can never undo; but I can try to release him from his prison. When I know how that is what I shall do.
-Dr.███: I see… but how did it come into contact with you? How did it even get to Site 17?
-SCP-343: Your Foundation is not as secured as you think doctor. You cannot control the goals and convictions people have, not even the people who work for you. There are those among the Foundation who believe in a new Horizon.
-Dr.███: A new Horizon?
-SCP-343: I won’t be answering any more of your questions doctor. But I am certain you can figure it out by yourself. In due time.
-Dr.███: Very well, best to not poke the bear… I thank you for your time and cooperation.
