SCP-016

SCP description: SCP-016 is a Euclid class cognitohazard. The SCP looks and functions exactly like a standard microphone, with a few extraordinary exceptions.

Containment procedures: SCP-016 is to be contained at all times inside a 20x20 well lit room with access being restricted to anyone without special permission from the director. Due to the threat SCP-016 poses, it is currently located in a remote part of (redacted) under guard of Doctor Steel.

Addendum 1a: One class D personnel was sent into the room containing SCP-016 and instructed to hang around the stand where 016 currently was placed. “Is something supposed to happen?” The subject appeared confused and looked at the one way glass. “Wait a moment please Mr…(redacted)”. The head scientist in charge of watching 016 was currently looking at the subjects bio. A few minutes roll by without much happening. “Mr (redacted), could you please pick up the microphone?” The subject hesitated “Why, is it gonna zap or kill me?” Doctor Steel ignored him. “Please pick up the microphone.” The subject picked up 016 and without warning his voice boomed through the room. “This is so (redacted) stupid”. The subject fell back, shocked and confused. He dropped 016 and a loud ringing echoed through the room. “What the hell is happening? Why can’t I speak!?” The subject was visibly terrified while touching his mouth. The doctors murmured among each other, taking notes. “Mr (redacted), can you move your mouth at all?” “Yeah! But nothings coming out, I swear!” The subject curled up in a far corner of the room, inaudible chatter emanating from the room. [End of addendum 1a]

Doctor Steel’s notes: SCP-016 appears to only work when a subject makes physical contact, and once contact is made the subject in question is unable to use his/her voice. However, the subject is not completely silent, because while they are unable to use their voice, their inner thoughts are projected from an indiscernible source, sounding a lot like the subject is on a stage projecting to an audience.

Addendum 2b: Two class D personnel are introduced to SCP-016’s holding chamber. One is instructed to stand by while the other goes to grab SCP-016. Doctor Steel interjects before the subject can continue “Sir, I must advise you to stay calm, no matter what happens, understood?” The subject nods and proceeds to pick up SCP-016. Subject one’s voice emanates from seemingly nowhere “This is so weird.” The subjects look around, puzzled. Subject two was shocked “How’d you’d do that without moving your mouth?” Subject one’s face is one of visible terror “I don’t know how!” “Gentlemen, please, stay calm.” Subject one looked at the one way glass, mouth still unmoving, but filled with rage his voice boomed “HOW CAN WE BE CALM!” “If you can not calm down I will be forced to fill the room with sedative.” Subject one relaxed a little but was still tense. “Can you fix this?” Doctor Steel took a second to assess the best way to answer this question. “We’ve run into…complications.” Subject two piped up “So that’s a no.” “Interpret it how you want but the fact is, we hardly know anything about this object or what it does.” A few moments of awkward silence passed before one of the scientists suggested something “Uh…Gentleman, would you mind shaking hands please?” The subjects looked at each other, “Are you serious?” “Do as he says please.” The subjects reluctantly shake hands. “I’d rather be on death row than here listening to a bunch of nerds!” Subject two’s hands shot to his mouth but did little to silence his voice “What the heck?”. Doctor Steel was intrigued by this development “Fascinating..” Doctor Steel scribbled some notes down then looked towards the guards at the door. “Terminate them .” “Yes sir.” The guards entered the chamber “Have they decided to help us?” The only response they received was the priming of two service pistols. “NOOOO-” Two gunshots rang out, silencing the subjects.
