Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures:

To minimize the possibility of the de-manifestation of SCP-XXXX, SCP-XXXX is currently contained in a standard open containment locker at Research Site-45 in the Indian Ocean, until another location far enough away from any major civilization is located. SCP-XXXX is not to be removed from containment unless authorized by on-site personnel. Due to the properties of SCP-XXXX, it is to be kept under constant surveillance by at least two (2) security cameras at all times. De-manifestations are to be immediately reported to Research Director ███████.

In the event of the de-manifestation of SCP-XXXX, MTF-Tau-10 ("Blade Runners") is to be dispatched from Site-45 within the previous active radius of SCP-XXXX with orders to locate and retrieve SCP-XXXX, and also to identify and incapacitate SCP-XXXX-A. Any identified instances of SCP-XXXX-A are to be immediately apprehended and turned over to the relevant local authorities.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a serrated knife consisting of a steel blade 17.3 cm in length, and a wooden hilt of 10 cm in length. The hilt appears to have been painted red, although the paint has flaked and chipped over time. Each iteration of SCP-XXXX retains the same properties on initial manifestation, even if the object is completely dismantled, destroyed, or if various pieces are placed in separate locations. Any markings, stains, or material deposited on SCP-XXXX will disappear upon manifestation, including fingerprints and DNA evidence.

If a person within 8 km of SCP-XXXX (from here on referred to as SCP-XXXX-A) intends to murder any other person/persons (referred to as SCP-XXXX-B), SCP-XXXX will de-manifest from its current location and reappear in the vicinity of SCP-XXXX-A's intended location of murder (referred to as SCP-XXXX-C). When both SCP-XXXX-A and SCP-XXXX-B are present within/near SCP-XXXX-C, SCP-XXXX-A will invariably pick up SCP-XXXX and use it to kill SCP-XXXX-B. The murder of SCP-XXXX-B will always take place exactly 30 minutes after the manifestation of SCP-XXXX. How SCP-XXXX determines the location of SCP-XXXX-C and the identities of SCP-XXXX-A and SCP-XXXX-B is currently unknown, but SCP-XXXX does not appear to be sentient. If multiple pieces of the object are placed in separate locations, the active radius of SCP-XXXX will extend to 8 km around each piece; however, SCP-XXXX can only manifest in one location at a time, and all separate parts of SCP-XXXX de-manifest simultaneously, regardless of location. If multiple instances of SCP-XXXX-C are identified in the same 8 km radius, SCP-XXXX will manifest at a random location.

In every confirmed case of SCP-XXXX's manifestation, SCP-XXXX-A has never been identified after the murder of SCP-XXXX-B. Whether this is due to a secondary effect of SCP-XXXX or simply a lack of evidence due to SCP-XXXX's de-manifestation is unclear. If SCP-XXXX-A is incapacitated before the murder of SCP-XXXX-B can take place, SCP-XXXX will remain present until another instance of SCP-XXXX-C is identified within the object's active radius.

SCP-XXXX does not appear to actually induce subjects to murder, or increase the probability of murders taking place within its active radius.
