Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept locked in a standard containment room, with at least one (1) guard stationed outside at all times. Due to the events detailed in Addendum XXXX.2, experimentation on and exploration through SCP-XXXX has been temporarily halted while researchers search for suitable candidates.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a standard wooden doorframe and door measuring 2.032m by 0.914m in height and width respectively. Only one side of the door has a door handle, which is cylindrical and composed of what appears to be a bronze alloy. The doorframe and door have been painted white. Written at eye level on the door in an unidentifiable medium is the text "NO EYES PLEASE." The door shows signs of wear indicating an age of at least 50 years.

When opened by a person not meeting the criteria specified, the door will behave non-anomalously. However, when held in an upright position and opened by someone meeting the requirements, the doorframe will instead frame a black plane which does not reflect light nor allow it to escape. Subjects who pass through the plane will disappear to outside observers and be instantaneously transported to a pocket dimension, hereby designated SCP-XXXX-1. SCP-XXXX-1 comprises a series of square rooms 3x5x5 meters in dimension appearing to be composed entirely out of concrete. Each room has two doors directly opposite each other, identical to SCP-XXXX.

Each additional door besides the entrance is designated as SCP-XXXX-1-x, in alphabetical order, and each door has a different requirement for further progression into SCP-XXXX-1. Individuals or objects who do not meet the requirements specified by an instance of SCP-XXXX-1-x encounter a solid, indestructible wall with properties similar to glass when attempting to enter the doorframe. Objects or individuals who meet the requirements specified by an instance of SCP-XXXX-1-x do not physically interact with this wall.

The requirements for passing through SCP-XXXX or any of the instances of SCP-XXXX-1-x are based on a functionalist perspective on the nature of an object. SCP-XXXX will not manifest SCP-XXXX-1 when opened by any person who possesses working eyes. However, individuals diagnosed with total blindness, but who still have eyes, can still trigger the anomalous effects of SCP-XXXX. Additionally, cameras, infrared goggles, and other technology designed to augment, supplement, or replace the eyes are prevented from entering SCP-XXXX by the same physical barrier which prevents progress through instances of SCP-XXXX-1-x.

The requirements for passing through instances of SCP-XXXX-1-x differ for each instance, as do the means of conveying these requirements to observers. The list of known instances of SCP-XXXX-1-x can be viewed in Addendum XXXX.1
