Item #: SCP-4956
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4596 has sprouted up in a standard containment cell at the [REDACTED] Facility and any attempts to move SCP-4596 from this containment cell is futile. Due to the nature of SCP-4956 anyone with security clearance level one or above may interact with SCP-4956 so long as they are not considered near-death.
Description: SCP-4596 is a unique species of fungi (Armillaria Immortalem) that stands just over two meters in height with a white stalk and red cap with small white circles on the cap and purple mycelium. SCP-4596 grows at roughly ten centimeters a year disregarding any Mortem-Class event that may occur and shows no signs of stopping. The mycelium of SCP-4596 are purple fibers that have spread out and completely encompassed and replaced the floor and has begun to crawl up the walls.
SCP-4596 is completely immune to any and all forms of extermination ranging from simple methods such as fungicides, fire, or freezing to the extremes such as a nuclear blast. No matter what has happened to SCP-4596, as soon as no one was looking at it or its containment cell it rematerializes in an unknown fashion, slowly replacing more and more of the destroyed environment with mycelium.
Addendum-4596-1: Experiment Logs.
Test 4596-1 - ██/██/1999
Subject: SCP-4596
Procedure: SCP-4596 was removed using a napkin from the facility cafeteria before reappearing. Then SCP-4596 was introduced to several fungicide agents, followed by flame, cryofreezing, and acids of various strengths, reappearing each time personnel left the containment unit.
Results: The Mushroom was officially recorded as SCP-4596 and containment parameters were founded. Previous attempts at exterminating SCP-4596 were recorded as an experiment.
Test 4596-5 - ██/██/1999
Subject: SCP-4596
Procedure: SCP-4596 was exposed to highly radioactive waste over a three-week span with pairs of D-Class personnel watching over SCP-4596 as to prevent it from regenerating.
Results: SCP-4596 suffered rampant genetic mutations, erosion, and ultimately death. Upon the conclusion of the experiment, SCP-4596 was discovered alive and well within its containment cell.
Test 4596-11 - ██/██/2000
Subject: SCP-4596
Procedure: After walls of the containment cell were reinforced, a small explosive device was introduced and detonated.
Results: After the smoke cleared, SCP-4596 was discovered alive and well, with small sections of floor around SCP-4596 replaced with purple mycelium.
Test 4596-17 - ██/██/2000
Subject: SCP-4596
Procedure: During a containment breach of SCP-096, an unlucky guard viewed SCP-096's face, and took refuge in SCP-4596's containment cell. Upon the guard's termination, cameras within SCP-4596's cell recorded the event, as well as how the mycelium on the floor slowly encompassed the dead guard and rapidly decomposed all organic matter within .98 seconds.
Results: SCP-4596 was studied to grow faster than its standard growth speed of .83 centimeters a month for the next four months. This event was reclassified as a Mortem-Class Event and recorded as an experiment.
Test 4596-18 - ██/██/2000
Subject: SCP-4596
Procedure: A D-Class personnel was instructed to go down beside SCP-4596 and lay on the Mycelium for three hours
Results: The D-Class personnel was not decomposed and made a note of being "Confused by the fantasy mushroom"
Test 4596-23(1) - ██/██/2001
Subject: SCP-4596
Procedure: SCP-4596 was systematically dissolved in sulphuric acid and a rotation of D-Class personnel were assigned to SCP-4596's room, watching it in shifts for an entire year in hopes that continued observance would prevent it from reappearing. After two months a thick white smoke of spores filled the room blocking any method of observance including infrared and ultraviolet.
Results: SCP-4596 reappeared no different than before after this test was replicated two more times with similar results. It was decided to be ineffective.
Test 4596-50 - ██/██/2003
Subject: SCP-4596
Procedure: In the heat of his anger at not yet finding a way to exterminate SCP-4596, Dr. Ulysses broke procedure and consumed SCP-4596.
Results: Dr. Ulysses was reprimanded but was studied to find that SCP-4596 vanished as soon as Dr. Ulysses swallowed but did not immediately reappear. It reappeared five minutes after consumption.
Test 4596-167 - ██/██/2007
Subject: SCP-4596
Procedure: The Global Occult Coalition donated a nuclear device, which was detonated within SCP-4596's containment cell after extensive preparation.
Results: SCP-4596 was unharmed. A majority of the floor of SCP-4596 was found to be mycelium, as well as some of the walls. The mycelium seems to shy away from the entrance to the containment cell.
Test 4596-300 - ██/██/2012
Subject: SCP-4596
Procedure: SCP-4596 was introduced to SCP-3475.
Results: SCP-3475 proved promising, completely dissolving any and all biological traces of SCP-4596. SCP-4596 did not immediately reappear, only reappearing after a month. This experiment was replicated, with D-Class personnel observing the chamber at all times such as in Test 23. After two months a thick smoke of spores filled the room and SCP-4596 reappeared. It was decided that testing would cease until a more promising SCP could be utilized.
