Item #: SCP-XXXX “The Dead Marsh”
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: The 2.25 km2 area of the object is to be contained via a perimeter fence spanning the entire area of the marsh, as well as security personnel, which are to be on watch at the perimeter at all times. The fence should be routinely checked for any structural damage on a weekly basis and should be repaired if necessary.
Due to the nature of SCP-XXXX and its contents, no more than six D-Class personnel are to be sent in per every two weeks, excluding the months from November to March. (See addendum XXXX-b) If this routine is not maintained, SCP-XXXX may breach containment. Other than for testing purposes, no personnel are permitted to enter the containment zone of SCP-XXXX. Requests for testing may be submitted to the onsite head researcher, Dr. Webb.
Description: Area-██ has been established in Acadia Parish, Louisiana, in order to contain SCP-XXXX. The main function of SCP-XXXX seems to be the multiplication of the set of entities inside the area. These entities, hereafter referred to SCP-XXXX-1 through SCP-XXXX-6, share many traits with non-anomalous crocodilians.
Each instance is around 3.5 meters in length and around 500 kilograms in weight and seems to be of a similar biological structure to Alligator mississippiensis, with a few key differences. SCP-XXXX-1 to SCP-XXXX-6 have albinism and are covered in patches of human skin and hair. Testing has revealed that the scales covering these instances are composed of human bone.
The entities seem to exhibit normal behavior in relation to their non-anomalous counterparts, with the exception of vocalization. The entity will emit an auditory sound approximating a hiss, with great similarities to a human voice. The cause of this is most likely the physical similarities between the vocal cords of the entity and the vocal cords of humans.
Addendum XXXX-a: Due to recent tests, an expedition has been sent into the containment area to explore SCP-XXXX.
07h00: The expedition enters SCP-XXXX.
08h00: The team ventures further into the area, finding that the water seems to have its own current. The current appears to be moving towards a central point from all directions.
09h00: The expedition follows the current, eventually discovering an abnormally large tree, which appears to be hollowed out.
09h15: The expedition enters the tree, discovering seven corpses of D-Class personnel, which were sent in to explore SCP-XXXX. The corpses seem to adhere to the inside of the tree, as cocoon-like structures appear to have wrapped around them.
09h25: A member of the team collects samples from the cocoons to be taken back to the on-site research area.
09h30: The expedition exits the tree, beginning to make their way to the exit.
10h00: The team arrives at the Area checkpoint, being examined for any anomalous properties or changes. A slight loss of body mass is found in the members of the team. The samples are brought back to the on-site research area, and all members of the expedition are admitted to physical therapy.
Addendum XXXX-b: In a recent experiment conducted by Dr. Webb, SCP-XXXX-1 through SCP-XXXX-5 were not supplied with the D-Class personnel required. After the two week period, a new instance of SCP-XXXX-X appeared in a section of SCP-XXXX. This has been determined to be the doing of the other instances, as they were not seen above the surface of the water during the two weeks without food. This recent development has further cemented the sapience of SCP-XXXX-1 through SCP-XXXX-5. The new instance has been codenamed SCP-XXXX-6, and tests shall be conducted pertaining to the new instance.
Addendum XXXX-c: Recent testing conducted on a particular instance has concluded that SCP-XXXX-1 through SCP-XXXX-5 are, in fact, sapient to some degree. Several exercises have proven that the entities can learn simple actions, in a similar vein to dolphins.
