DoctorNorth's Tales

.

Finally. It would seem that everyone is awake.

Okay, let’s get started here. When you hear your name, raise your hand.
Alexandrov? Check.
Carter? Check.
Hiroji? Check.
Loan? Check.
Mirea? Check.
North? Check.
Olander? Check.
Ramos? Check.
Torres? Check.
Thi? Check.
Good; that seems to be everyone.

Now, judging from all the confused faces and murmuring, I would take it that none of you know where you are, or what you are doing here. We have set this orientation up that way.

…What? You mean, you actually thought you were going on a paid vacation?

Don’t be ridiculous. You’re all here because a few select people think that some of you runts will make a valuable asset to the Intelligence Agency. Although I suspect most of you will not make it here in IA, and will instead wake up in your office or cubicle, not having any memories of this meeting after having been administered amnestics.

…Yes, if you don’t meet the standards here, we will be giving you amnestics. No one outside of the Intelligence Agency is allowed to know we exist. There will be more information on this later.

You, the kid in the back! Take off those 3D glasses. If you want to pass, you have to be professional here. We do not allow slacking off. We will not tolerate any jokes. We expect that each of you will give it your all.

The Intelligence Agency exists to serve the Foundation and provide it the knowledge that most people otherwise couldn’t. We are the Foundation’s network of spies and double agents. We report directly to the Overseer Council. Yes, they truly exist. Some of the rumors you hear are actually true.

No, we are not associated with the “Front Runners”- a key difference is that plenty of other people know of Delta-5’s existence. Before this day, did any of you even know the Intelligence Agency existed? I didn’t quite think so.

Now, if you make it into the Intelligence Agency don’t expect to be using any big firearms- like other divisions, including the Mobile Task Force. We here at the Intelligence Agency don’t specialize in firearm usage. Yet, according to standard guidelines and protocol, each of you will be expected to pass basic firearm training.

We want to keep all of this on the down-low from other faculty members around the Site. Now, I mentioned earlier that no one outside of the Intelligence Agency is allowed to know we exist. There are several major reasons that is the case. One of them being the IA acts as a sort of… “internal affairs” department. Have you ever wondered how when you messed up, some higher authority still found out about it? That is because we keep close tabs on everyone within the Foundation.

Yes, you may see things above your clearance level. Although it doesn’t really matter. Each of you will be promoted to the R4 clearance level… Ah, I see a lot of you are confused by that. An R4 clearance level means. R4 clearance stands for restricted level 4. So, whatever you come across, as long as you don't get caught by someone outside of the Intelligence Agency, it’s fine. This doesn’t mean you can go around requesting things that require level 4 clearance, as that would raise suspicions. The reason you are all promoted to this R4 clearance is so we don’t have to apply amnestics to you, like the soldiers in the Mobile Task Force go through when higher authorities think they’ve seen something they weren’t supposed to.

Now, for your first test. Each of you will be assigned a staff member in the Foundation. You will have one week to track down, steal, and make a copy of an assigned classified document that is under their supervision- all without them noticing what’s going on under their noses. To make this fair, I want everyone to come down here and draw a name. The name you draw is who you will be assigned to. All of you will be given a simple dossier on your target and what document you need to obtain, copy, and return.

Thi, you got Doctor Edison. This should be an easy one. Edison works in the Metafiction department. Hardly any security, and Edison works alone most of the time. Here is your basic dossier. Please go back to your seat.

Olander, you got Doctor Sinclair. Enjoy the Thaumatology division… I know I sure don’t. No, I’m not going to go into why that is. It’s most likely a biased opinion, anyway. Here is your dossier on Doctor Sinclair. Please return to your seat.

Torres, what? You don’t want any part of this? That’s fair. No, no- you can leave right now. We’re not going to force you to work for us. Yep, you can leave right now. Please go through the doors to your left. No, don’t worry- there are not any hard feelings, Torres.

Hiroji, your target is Mr. Simon from the Manufacturing Department. They’ve got a surprising amount of cameras and personals in the Manufacturing Department, so you’re going to need to be extra careful. Here is your dossier Mr. Simon. Yep, you’re welcome.

Mirea, okay- you’re gonna have to go after Agent Major Eiden of the Security Department. Do not let his age fool you. The Major is a tough son of a bitch- as long as you play it smart, you should be fine. Here is the dossier on Major Eiden. Please return to your seat.

Alexandrov, oh; you’re the unlucky one, unfortunately. Your target is the Site-19 director, Doctor Moose. …Yes, I’m serious. Here is the dossier on Doctor Tilda D. Moose. I wish you the best of luck. Please return to your seat in the meantime.

Who just left? Was it Loan? Damn, that was quite a sneaky move. One of the reasons she was brought in here, in fact. A shame, really, I think she could have been a benefit to the Intelligence Agency; especially after sneaking out of here like that. Alrighty then, who’s next?

North, you got Doctor Cimmerian, the slight bastard of the Ethics Committee. The few who are allowed to know about the Intelligence Agency give us a world of hell, so we like to return the favor. You should take pride in this assignment. Here is your dossier. Please go back to your seat.

Ramos, ah another unlucky one. You got Doctor Parker. Head specialist in the Medical Department. Yes- do not underestimate anyone with a medical degree, especially not Doctor Parker. She used to be a field medic for the Israeli Medical Corps. This will not be an easy task, Ramos, but I do hope you prove me wrong. Here is your dossier on Doctor Parker. Please take a seat.

Last, but certainly not least, we have Carter. Okay, who did you pull? Ah, Lieutenant Radcliff of the Navy Task Force. One of the reasons we give an entire week to complete this assignment. Originally it used to be 48 hours. Although, it wasn’t really fair to those that had to go after one of the Task Force Agents, as they could be on a mission for weeks at a time. Here is your dossier.

Okay, everyone. Now that you all have your assigned mission, there are some things we should warn you about. No one that you have been assigned to knows of the Intelligence Agency. So if you mess up… expect standard discipline, as well as amnestics. There is no room for failure here. It is all or nothing. Each of you has a senior agent watching over you to make sure nothing goes horribly wrong. Heh- bonus points if you can figure out who the senior agent is.

You all have one week to finish your assignment, starting tomorrow. Starting this point forward, however… welcome to the Intelligence Agency.
