Item #: SCP-6661

Object Class: safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP 6661 is contained in a 5 x 5 containment area designed to mimic a tropical environment kept at 32.2° C. Feeding is usually done through a slot on the door twice a day. Two or more healthy large personnel are required to be present to enter the enclosure. This should be done once a week for cleaning and verifying that its GPS/shock GPS/shock/lethal injection collar is in place. It's favorite heating rock doubles as a wireless charger for this color. Any instances of blood near SCP 6661's enclosure or an area it is going to pass through must be mopped up with strong bleach. Any instances of eggs or live births are to be reported.

Description:
SCP 6661 is female. It partially resembles both a common blood hound dog and a Varanus komodoensis (Komodo dragon). Its fur which grows between its armored scales is red. The creature has a more angular head than a blood hound, and has a forked tongue, as well as both sets of eyes and nostrils from both species. Both sets of eyes can independently track targets. However, it only has ears respective to the dog species. It also has an anticoagulant toxin in its bite and extremely sharp teeth. Its tail is muscular and as long as its body and capable of easily knocking a man down. Its legs are like that of a dog's but muscular and with larger paws and claws. It currently weighs 74 kg and is 2.27 m in length. Brain scans also reveal a brain consistent with a dog for this size except for a very large basal ganglia portion of the brain.

Its origins are unknown but it was found in Vietnam in 2015, neither species is truly native to the area. A DNA test shows that the creature is more like a chimera, a mix of two separate individuals not a highbred. How this was created or if it is native to our world is unknown, but so far it is the only known instance. It's capable of adapting to warm or cold climates by switching between being hot and cold-blooded. This is why its enclosure is kept warm to keep it cold-blooded and to encourage the use of the hot rock. Its temperament is like that of a tamed wild animal not that of a domesticated dog. It has exceptional sense tracking abilities and it will become frantic if it detects blood quickly pursuing the prey. If it finds a weakened individual it will attempt to kill and eat them, but the presence of stronger individuals can repel SCP 6661, it will then often continue stalking its prey from a distance hoping to find an opportunity to subdue it. It shows little preference for what it will eat as long as it is easily able to eat it without much of a struggle. Mobile Task Forces may request the use of SCP 6661 by contacting it's assigned handlers, currently [redacted] and [redacted]. Teams are asked to keep its safety in mind, despite its formidable capabilities compared to a normal tracking dog it is so far the only one of its kind. Varanus komodoensis (through parthenogenesis) can produce only male offspring without mating and is then able to sexually reproduce with their young. However, some reptiles can give birth to female offspring without the presence of a male, SCP 6661 has not as of yet done so but is being closely monitored.

Addendum: 1 after the discovery of a species of mole salamander (A. mexicanum) and its kleptogenesis it was theorized that it may need the male of a different species to propagate. In order to test this, a male bloodhound dog was purchased from a breeder so it had a known pedigree and was placed in SCP 6661's enclosure. Although normally SCP 6661 would attempt to eat a smaller creature in its enclosure, and originally the dog seemed uncomfortable and wary around SCP 6661, instead it has been seen giving food to the dog and nuzzling it. Thus the dog has warmed up to it over time. So far no attempts at mating have been observed but the Varanus komodoensis normally mates between May and August.

Addendum: 2 Due to the urgent warning from researcher Stevenson, lethal injection has been added as the option to the creature's collar. A portion of his message justifying this action is included here. "Most people here think that it's just a wild animal and that any zoo should be able to contain it. The difference with the foundation is we would be bold enough to try to use it in the field for its tracking capabilities. However, there is a hazard with it, beyond its dangerous bite. With its anomalous parthenogenesis ability if it were to get loose or another one of its species out there were able to reproduce with something like SCP 939 or SCP 682 it could make a whole litter new hazardous creatures that the foundation was not counting on. This version of it is essentially a harmless mix of something like a Komodo dragon and a bloodhound, having both sets of eyes the dog's nose, it's floppy ears, the lizard's tongue and bite, and red for growing between its scales. But it's next crossover could be with a far more hazardous creature especially since the foundation likes to put them all in one place. Furthermore, the use of it in the field when it woods likely be encountering unknown dangerous creatures, that could potentially not only mate with it but kill its handlers, only heightens this risk."
