Containment procedure knowledge in case of breach is imperative to the Foundation's interests. Due to SCP-XXX3's nature, login credentials are required to view the document.
A structure subsumed by SCP-XXX3. Delhi, India. 2014.
Special Containment Procedures:
Cross-testing and research have been suspended indefinitely unless overridden by O5 with a unanimous vote. Containment chamber access includes a single one-way 15mm diameter fluid inlet, otherwise permanently sealed. Individuals attempting unauthorized access will be detained and administered Class-A amnestics before relocation.
SCP-XXX3 must remain suspended in a sound-proof cubic concrete chamber flooded to capacity with liquid water. Equipment monitoring SCP-XXX3 must be part of a closed system separate from Site-63's power grid and data storage. Data relayed back to monitoring equipment is forcibly scrubbed by AI, compressing video and audio feed into a single vague textual description. External spaces at Site-63 such as offices and corridors have been outfitted with air-tight blast doors, floodgates and high-pressure fire hoses.
Additionally, documents accurately describing SCP-XXX3 must be locked behind credential verification. All terminals with access to these documents must be in isolated areas that can be easily and remotely locked down. After verification, the reader is automatically placed into a high-priority queue for Class-A amnestic administration.
Objects that refract, reflect or radiate light in the spectra immediately bordering that of SCP-XXX3 are prohibited on all foundation sites and should be removed from public possession and digital media as quickly as possible.
All instances of SCP-XXX3-1 are to be extinguished and any ash or other particulate left behind by conversion is to be added to SCP-XXX3's main containment chamber. In the event that the breach is too widespread or violent to recontain, protocol XXX3-0 "[DATA EXPUNGED]1" will be enacted. The site's blast doors will close, all spaces on the site capable of containing water will be flooded to capacity, and a distress signal will broadcast at all frequencies. All monitoring footage from the previous 30 minutes will subsequently be deleted. If Protocol XXX3-0 is not activated manually after 5 minutes of continual video feed detecting SCP-XXX3, protocol will automatically engage.
Description:
SCP-XXX3 is an extremely contagious anomalous condition that manifests as a scarlet2 flame. The exact extent of contagion is unknown, but the anomaly has been confirmed to be spread both physically and memetically.
Known scenarios that incite contraction of SCP-XXX3 are as follows:
- Visually observing an open flame or residue left behind by SCP-XXX3.
- Hearing the anomaly burn or convert structures and individuals
- Infected individuals describing SCP-XXX3's appearance accurately to another individual.
- Physical contact with any form of SCP-XXX3, including residue.
- In individuals previously infected, observing objects that appear close in color to SCP-XXX3 may trigger a relapse.
- Images and other recordings of all of the above will trigger the memetic effect, albeit to a lesser degree.
Other cases of SCP-XXX3 spreading to unassociated individuals are known, but not understood. See incident XXX3-07-14-2016-1 for more information.
Contraction of SCP-XXX3 by physical contact causes the anomalous effects to materialize instantly. The physical effects of memetic contraction, while identical to all other forms, typically do not manifest for 12 to 24 hours after exposure.
Although mass is consumed as fuel, any objects or persons consumed by SCP-XXX3 will anomalously retain their form and burn indefinitely without intervention. Sapient victims, designated SCP-XXX3-1, will retain consciousness and locomotion even after being fully converted. SCP-XXX3-1 will react to its condition as any non-anomalous entity would react to being on fire, running, rolling and screaming. SCP-XXX3-1 will aggressively seek aid to be extinguished, often resulting in SCP-XXX3 being spread at an increased rate.
SCP-XXX3 was originally discovered in 2014, covering the entirety of Northern Sentinel Island after an outbreak which resulted in the complete eradication of the Sentinelese tribe. The Foundation was contacted by the Indian government after the complete loss of West Bengal Fire and Emergency Services, and a government agent. Fire retardants and other suppressants proved to be completely ineffective. However, it was discovered that ordinary water is highly effective against SCP-XXX3.
Less than twenty-four hours later, another large-scale event destroyed most of the Government of India's headquarters in Delhi, resulting in over 150 casualties. Entities described as 'burning men with no bodies' were sighted during the event, but ultimately extinguished with the rest of the inferno.
Foundation responders and local citizens began reporting outbreaks of SCP-XXX3 described as 'so bright that nothing else could be seen or heard' despite no such events having been recorded by surveillance. Twelve hours after the initial false reports, structures and personnel alike were recorded being spontaneously consumed by SCP-XXX3, resulting in 374 known casualties.
At this time, the Foundation began to suspect SCP-XXX3 was capable of memetic spread and promptly quarantined the city of Delhi after evacuating all remaining personnel and citizens, administering a mass amnestic.
Two days passed without incident and two research teams were sent in to study the remains. The first team was assigned to the capital building and immediate surroundings, and the other team was assigned to Northern Sentinel Island, designated informally as 'Ground Zero'. Aside from standard Foundation research and documenting equipment, both teams were outfitted with fire-protective suits, transport vehicles carrying 50 metric tons of ordinary water, and a fire hose mounted to each transport. All personnel were given supply of Class-A amnestics for emergency use.
Due to compression of descriptions and lack of recordings, all testing records and interviews regarding SCP-XXX3 can be freely viewed.
