SCP-XXXX - The Epsilon Pencil
Object Class - Safe
Special Containment Procedures - SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a room of any size or shape and is set within a stainless steel tube with one end of the tube being closed off and the other open. SCP-XXXX must be placed within the tube with the pencil tip being faced inwards inside the tube with the eraser side out for easy removal if needed. The encased SCP may be placed on any surface where it will not have the possibility of falling off and taking a fall that may harm it’s outer material. Paper and other materials that can be written on with the SCP may be stored nearby for testing purposes.
After coming in contact with SCP-XXXX, the personnel must be decontaminated thoroughly to clean off any unnoticed pencil marks on the body to avoid the possibility of harm.
Description - SCP-XXXX looks to be a normal, brand-new, however sharpened no. 2 pencil but with the greek alphabetical letter “epsilon” being present where the number 2 should be instead. The material at the sharpened tip of the pencil used for creating marks is in fact lead and not modern-day graphite. Upon use, the lead does not seem to dull in any form, and thus, does not need to be sharpened after any amount of use. The eraser at the other end also does not exhibit any signs of wear or tear after use. However, it is a possibility that the metal holder for the eraser, or the wood of the pencil itself may have the ability to be damaged, although no test has been made to prove this.
Upon creating a mark on an object with the use of SCP-XXXX, an instance of SCP-XXXX-1 will occur. SCP-XXXX-1 is somewhat of an intelligent entity which may only be noticed by the pencil marks that appear on the surface that SCP-XXXX was used on. These pencil marks are not made by SCP-XXXX and don’t have any noticable source. These pencil marks of which SCP-XXXX-1 create consist of any means of communication that may be written on a surface. SCP-XXXX-1 has the capability to answer simple questions in any written or drawn form, but seems to have no perception of the material world, and thus does not recognise nouns besides that regarding itself, SCP-XXXX, and the surface it’s inhabited. Upon further testing, SCP-XXXX-1 seems to have an insurmountable knowledge of every known language, code, and artform, and can communicate via these methods fluently despite the level of difficulty.
Within a test, SCP-XXXX was used to mark D-385600 on his skin. Within seconds, SCP-XXXX-1, instead of responding with writing, responded with numerous lacerations to the skin and flesh until D-385600 was presumed dead by bodily mutilation. Since the test, SCP-XXXX-1 will not acknowledge anything written on any living substance with SCP-XXXX. When asked in english on a piece of normal printer paper if SCP-XXXX-1 felt guilt for what it had done to D-385600, it replied in english with a paragraph of fluent writing, explaining that it did indeed feel guilt for what it had done, but did not understand why, and seemed absolutely oblivious to what even happened. The only feeling it seemed to recall in the moment was that it
felt warm. Any questions after the paragraph were not acknowledged until approximately 5 hours after it had made the paragraph.
SCP-XXXX was found on November 5th, 1999 in a forest just 5 miles outside of Vienna, Austria by a local photographer of the name of (redacted.) The photographer became a sensation of wonder among Vienna’s many districts as he used SCP-XXXX as part of a street act during his free time. The rumors of a magical man spread, and thus the SCP Foundation confronted Mr. (redacted), and made the determination through tests that he himself was not an anomaly, but the pencil he had found was the source of the occurences. SCP-XXXX was confiscated and transported to site (redacted) and Mr. (redacted) has since then gotten back to his usual photography. SCP-XXXX-1, when asked, seems to refer to Mr. (redacted) as “The Vision,” and is assumed that it refers to Mr. (redacted)’s profession, although this assumption has not been proven and the SCP refuses to elaborate.
With the loss of many explanations, doctors that have tested SCP-XXXX deem SCP-XXXX-1 to be either very secretive, or simply oblivious to what it’s presenting actually means.
