Item #: SCP-001

Object Class: Keter-Thaumiel

Special Containment Procedures: Due to the widespread nature of SCP-001-A, containment is not possible by any conventional means. Despite its comparatively fragile physiology, SCP-001 has proven strangely adept at containing other anomalous entities, granting it Thaumiel classification by order of the O5 Council. Should the effects of SCP-001-B wear off, for whatever reason, then unfortunately the Foundation can do little more than watch. And pray.

Description: SCP-001 is an information-age, bipedal, culture-bearing species of primate classified in the genus Homo, especially the species of Homo sapiens. Members of this species, designated SCP-001-A, are anatomically similar and related to the great apes but are distinguished by a more highly developed brain and a resultant capacity for articulate speech and abstract reasoning. In addition, SCP-001-A instances display a marked erectness of body carriage that frees the hands for use as manipulative members. Some of these characteristics, however, are not entirely unique to SCP-001-A. The gap in cognition between humans and the great apes (orangutans, gorillas, chimpanzee, bonobos and SCP-1000) is much less than was once thought, as they have been shown to possess a variety of advanced cognitive abilities formerly believed to be restricted to SCP-001-A. Over the course of its existence, SCP-001-A has formed communities, starting as small villages and towns which evolved into kingdoms, eventually growing up into fully formed nations and the modern international community.

SCP-001-A's anomalous properties lie primarily in its ability to survive through insurmountable and even impossible odds. This effect has been designated SCP-001-B. SCP-001-A have been able to survive significant natural and man-made catastrophes, major global conflicts and dangerous breaches by SCP objects. The cause of SCP-001-B's effect is unknown.

Not only has SCP-001-A been able to survive the existence of SCP objects, but they have been able to contain over ████ of them to date. A minority of the species' population is aware of the anomalous and paranatural, forming organisations to combat and defend against them (such as the UN Global Occult Coalition, GRU Division 'P', FBI UIU and, of course, the SCP Foundation). The vast majority are unaware of the anomalous, with a 'veil of secrecy' maintained, separating the world of the anomalous to the world of generally accepted normalcy.
