Item #: SCP-3477, "The Branding Board"

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: Containment in large cell with all proper amenities, for comfort. Sporadic offerings of opponents in order to prevent violent outbursts.

Description: SCP-3477, also known by the Foundation as the Branding Board, is an anomalous game board of unknown origin. It is roughly 19 inches in length and 15 in width, and is inscribed with foreign symbols along the entirety of its thick border. It has a large checkerboard pattern along its face, with more symbols scattered within the squares, at seemingly random intervals. It lacks both rules and playing pieces.
3477 is considered both dangerous and non-hostile. The board was discovered to only strive to "play a game", and because of this is not treated as openly malevolent. This is not to say that it is not a threat, however. The board will, at random intervals, begin to become "bored." It then generates a humanoid form, which is always different from the last, but it is continually seen clothed in a thin grey parka and blue jeans. It refers to itself only as "a challenger" when asked for its name, and it wanders about, asking other creatures if they would like to "play a game." In the beginning, 3477 is quite friendly, and can even be seen helping Foundation employees and other SCPs. After a time of being turned down, however, it begins to become aggravated, and is more persistent. After continuous denial, it becomes destructive, and will even attack other creatures. If it is not quick pacified by the acception of its challenge, it will begin to burn its surroundings with a fire that appears to be emitted by the entity itself, causing major damage to both the objects and creatures around it. The fire is not able to be extinguished, and can burn through even the strongest of materials. The fire fades after 3477 is placated.
Once 3477's challenge is accepted, the board itself appears on the nearest table, or if no table is available, one is generated. Pieces appear, arranged in neat rows along the edge of the board. Then, mere moments after both opponents take their seats, one of two events occur. Either one, the accepting creature collapses, dead, with their flesh covered in large, gruesome brands. Each brand mark oozes a foul liquid and is surrounded by charred, black skin. Upon the closer inspection during autopsy, it is discovered that even their organs are branded. 3477 then walks away, board in hand, and the board is later found it its containment unit. Or two, the accepting creature, while still covered in brands, though fewer in number, remains alive, and 3477 shakes their hand, stating, "good game." Both the "challenger" and the board then disappear, leaving only a single playing piece. The board is later found in its containment cell.
Survivors later describe what they experienced: the warping of time around the game. The tell of how their games lasted seemingly for days, weeks, or even months. One survivor explains how he was playing the game for over two years. They also explain that they cannot remember the rules of the game, nor even the placement of pieces on the board. They only remember that the piece that 3477 left behind is the same piece they won with.

Discovery: SCP-3477 was originally discovered in a retiree home. It had been challenging the residents, and was reported after the first opponent died. 3477 was brought in with little resistance.

Current Status: In Foundation Custody, Unrestrained

Additional Notes
~While in its humanoid form, 3477 can be temporary pacified by chocolate pudding, as well as classic orchestral music, though the extended use of these will reduce their overall placating effect during 3477's continuous aggravated state.
~One may also inniate a game if they themselves challenge 3477, whether it is in humanoid form or not. It is also to be noted that the game will retain all of its effects, including death upon the failure to win, as if the game was initiated by 3477.
