Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

**Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained within a standard airtight containment cell, with two doors to act as an airlock. This chamber must only be connected to a standalone ventilation system which serves only SCP-XXXX's containment cell, and under no circumstances is to be connected to the main ventilation systems of the facility. SCP-XXXX is to be monitored by security cameras at all times, and any further anomalous behaviour is to be reported to the senior researcher currently on site. For the sake of the continued stability of SCP-XXXX, no Foundation personnel are permitted to have direct contact with SCP-XXXX, unless authorised by a senior researcher.

If it is required for SCP-XXXX to be transported, it must be sealed in an airtight container, and to be accompanied by no fewer than two (2) armed Foundation personnel. It is recommended that these personnel are proficient in a form of sign language, or, if this is not able to be fulfilled, have methods of communication outside of verbal.

In the event of a containment breach, SCP-XXXX is to be located and promptly either sealed into the room it is found, or moved immediately back to its containment cell. Any personnel found tampering with the entity without authorisation are to be promptly investigated, and reprimanded accordingly.

Any further instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are to be investigated, and the source to be contained under the same conditions as states above. The Foundation is unsure as to whether additional examples of this anomaly exist.

Description:
Description: SCP-XXXX is a small drum, presumably of African origin and constructed from a material similar to cow hide, although tests were unable to determine the source of the material. Any room which SCP-XXXX is placed in will become completely silent within seconds or minutes, depending on the dimensions of the room. The 'silence', hereby referred to as SCP-XXXX-1, shares properties with a usual gas, and will fill the room it is placed in, as well as 'spread' into nearby rooms and ventilation systems if said area is not airtight. However, this does not result in an increase of pressure in the area, with air pressure remaining constant throughout the chamber, or the displacement of oxygen from the area. Research has shown that SCP-XXXX-1 is less dense than air, resulting in the room 'filling' with SCP-XXXX-1 from the top downwards. SCP-XXXX-1 dissipates and the effect is lost if not in the presence of SCP-XXXX, making SCP-XXXX-1 unable to be contained independently, rendering it unsuitable to be used for use in containing auditory-based SCPs.

SCP-XXXX-1 does not seem to displace gases already present in the room, resulting in the area SCP-XXXX is present to be safe to enter, if uncomfortable. The exact properties of SCP-XXXX-1, including how it induces silence upon the area where it is present, is still subject to study. It is theorised that SCP-XXXX-1 blocks the movement of sound waves through the air, however this is unconfirmed. Microphones and other recording devices do not function in the presence of SCP-XXXX.

Test A - 15/7/20██

Subject: SCP-XXXX
Procedure: SCP-XXXX was submerged in a 10m x 10m container full of water. Also present in the container was a D class personnel with breathing apperatus, as well as a microphone capable of functioning underwater. The container was then sealed with the D class personnel inside. The D-Class personell was then instructed to repeat a passage into the microphone.
Results: Control reported hearing the D class personnel attempt (unsucessfully) to repeat the statement, despite the presence of SCP-XXXX. The D Class personnel was unable to hear any communication from control, as well as being unable to hear themselves speak or think. After the D class personnel was removed from the container and out of the presence of SCP-XXXX, they regained full hearing.
Analysis: It was concluded that SCP-XXXX's anomalous properties functioned through water, thereby closing the theory that SCP-XXXX-1 is a gasous substance, as well as confirming that recording devices functioned in the presence of SCP-XXXX.

Addendum 26/2/20██: After an incident where an incorrectly sealed airlock resulted in SCP-XXXX-1 leaking into the surrounding areas, a motion to reclassify SCP-XXXX as Eulicid was put forward. This motion was rejected, and containment procedures revised accordingly.

Addendum 4/1/20██: Do not use SCP-XXXX to fill balloons. This is the last time I'm going to say this, if I find anyone attempting to fill balloons with anomalous subjects, they will be reprimanded accordingly.
