SCP-001 Dr. ConStar Proposal: The Essence of Abnormality
(This document is the written script of Dr. ConStar’s proposal to the council and chair)
SCP-001 is not a living, sentient creature, nor is it a physical object, but rather the existence of what logic can not define. SCP-001 lives within the curiosity of all living creatures, and the observation of the world around them. SCP-001 in its nature is not containable by any means. In a sense, SCP-001 is a quantifiable amount of mystery, meaning when something previously mysterious becomes understood, a new abnormality will take its place. In the caveman ages, very little was understood of our planet, and even less so previously. As the homo sapien evolved, we came to further understand natural phenomena. But with our discoveries came more questions. With the discovery of subatomic matter and particals, humanity very well may have received more questions than answers. Whether or not that reverses the effect of SCP-001 is unknown. But what happens when we begin to run out of questions? Simply put, more questions are created, questions that become harder and harder to answer, to a point where finding a solution is nearly impossible. The creation of something so profoundly out of human logic it may become classified as something unidentifiable while humans continue to study in their endless quest to find the answer. Because human nature is the need for answers, but what exists without logic is dangerous, and that is the true nature of SCPs. How can you explain the nature of 173, or 682, or 096, or any SCP inside and outside of the foundation. As time passes, more discoveries are made, and at the same time, more SCPs, more inexplicable anomalies come into existence. What was once few has grown to almost 5000 cases. These cases range from toilet ghosts and amplified marijuana to broken gods and the scarlet king. What comes next is entirely unpredictable, and it’s only a matter of time before an XK event occurs. Is there a way to stop SCP-001? No, not even the foundation can stop the spread of information. But we can reverse the effects of SCP-001. If SCP-001 exists not as abnormality, but the perception of abnormality, then the foundation can fabricate mysteries to push against SCP-001. Not only has Operation: HALT01 been devised, but it is already well in effect.

Operation HALT01 is the continuous creation of SCP-001 theories and proposal overseen by the foundation. Thus far 28 proposals have been fabricated by professional writers hired by the foundation in order to cause as much confusion over this SCP as possible. Writers must collaborate to make sure none of the proposals share even the most minute details. All documents regarding SCP-001 proposals are periodically “leaked” to the public to cause extreme levels of collusion in public society. According to our studies, in the yet to come phases of this plan, entrepreneurs and creative activists will begin to form their own theories about the existence and form of SCP-001, taking the responsibility out of the hands of the foundation. Some council members expressed concern of a public crisis fueled by the fear of the unknown, but as it stands, we simply can not afford to risk the creation of more SCPs, possibly more dangerous than any that have come before it.
