Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5440 is to be contained in a 8x8 steel container, under no circumstances should any direct visual contact be made with SCP-5440, and personal who have seen SCP-5440 or who are attempting to wear SCP-5440 should be terminated immediately. Due to SCP-5230's tendency to excrete dark viscous liquid its steel cube its to be cleaned twice a week by D class personal under supervision by staff by facility guards in order to make sure no attempt to wear SCP-5440 is made, upon event that both facility guard and class D personal look at SCP-5440 or are attempting to wear SCP-5440 facility should be evacuated and request for support from MTF should be made. Due to personal trying to enter SCP-5440's containment guards are to be stationed outside of SCP-5440's cell at all times.

Description: SCP-5440 appears to be a old fashioned witches hat made of a purple velvet with leather band fashioned around the hat via a copper buckle. Viewing of SCP-5440 is strictly prohibited as sight of SCP will cause viewer to have an insatiable need to wear SCP-5440, if this task is deemed impossible subject will commit suicide by any means. It is not yet known if viewer is directly controlled by SCP-5440 upon visual sight or if subject enters a mind controlled state. attempts at negating effects of viewing SCP-5440 via amnestics have been met only with failure, with subject still having perfect memory of SCP-5440 and still actively trying to place it upon their head. Upon placement of SCP-5440 upon subjects head subject explains feeling of infinite knowledge and has been shown to answer any question asked with ease. Subject describes source of knowledge of library inside head with thousands of file cabinets being searched through by unknown persons. When asked to further elaborate on library personal enters a trance like state and disappears into SCP-5440, same result is achieved if SCP-5440 is atop subjects head for a period of overs 15 minutes. If SCP-5440 is left atop head for more than 10 minutes subject is completely taken over by SCP-5440 and attempts escape of containment, subject controlled by SCP-5440 is to be referred to as SCP-5440-1 and appears to have mind controlling capabilities(extent to abilities not yet known). Attempting removal of SCP-5440 while on top of subjects head will be met with failure, all attempts have resulted in death of subject most often via decapitation. Personal stationed in site-*** where SCP-5440 is contained feel a strange compelling feeling to enter SCP-5440's containment.

Incident 5440-A:

Description: During normal checkup of SCP-5440 for excretion of dark viscous fluid of Dr.{redacted} reports felling of being drawn to SCP-5440. Dr. {redacted} reported this to guards and Dr.{redacted} was detained and given large dose of amnestics. At this point Dr.{redacted} becomes hysterical scratching chuncks of flesh out of his arms as he frantically tears at them screaming for the hat. When guards attempt to re-detain Dr.{redacted} he proceeds to rip his own trachea out. At this time SCP-5440 is reported to have excreted a large amount of its usual dark viscous fluid. following this incident all personal feeling drawn toward SCP-5440 are required to be terminated.

Test Log SCP-5440-A:

Description: One Class D personal is placed in a room with SCP-5440 on a table in the center. Upon entering D-1967 immediately looks at SCP-5440 after doing so D-1967 walks to and places SCP-5440 upon his head. upon placement of SCP-5440 on D-1967's head class D reports a feeling of "frightening self-awareness" the subject also speaks of thoughts and memories that are not his own (subject cannot determine source of memories). Approximately 5 minutes into testing a series of questions are asked to d-1967 {see Interview log 5440-A}. Subjects seems to have overabundant knowledge on all subjects and also being able to read thoughts of individuals noted after D-1967 broke into laughter after interviewers vulgar thoughts of how much he needed to use the bathroom. D-1967 appeared to retain all cognitive ability until about the 10 minute mark in which time subject placed hand on top on interviewers head, the interviewer then proceeded to hand D-1967 who will now be referred to as SCP-5440-1 his keycard at which point SCP-5440-1 began to exit cell room and was quickly terminated by facility guards. A full evacuation of SCP-5440's containment zone was narrowly avoided as direct line of sight was not made with SCP-5440 and it was promptly put back into containment when it began to leak black viscous fluid. Interviewer had no recollection of events spanning the past 17 hours.

Interview Log 5440-A:
Interviewed: D-1967
Interviewer: Dr.Corry
Forward: Approximately 5 minutes after placement of SCP-5440 upon D-1967's head Dr. Corry enters room to begin asking D-1967 questions. Dr. Corry will refrain from directly looking at SCP-5440 while in containment with class D-1967.

Dr. Corry: How are we feeling D-1967? Feel like you know anything new ?
D-1967: eerrr good i guess.. maybe at little more than i'd like to know.
Dr. Corry: Can you elaborate for me please ?
D-1967: I don't know its like a frightening feeling of self awareness.. the feeling of knowing your place in history and every event leading up to it….. an..and every event to come.
Dr. Corry: So you're saying that you can see into the future? Where are you getting these thoughts from?
D-1967: I..I.. I don't know its like a library. But there's people in there filing things

D-1967:{abnoxious laughter} jeez doc if you gotta take a shit that bad just go
Dr. Corry: WHA..HEY..HOW..how did you know that?
D-1967: HAHA I couldn't tell ya doc it was like a thought that just flashed in my head but i knew it was yours.
Dr. Corry: Interesting could you elaborate on what you mean by 'flashing' into you're head

Dr. Corry: Hello D-1967 you feelin alright

Test Log 5440-B

Description:** D-1756 is instructed to directly view SCP-5440, prior to viewing D-1756 is moved to undisclosed secluded room in site-{redacted} . It should be noted that D-1756 made several attempts at escaping to get back to SCP-5440 during transport to site-{redacted} . Immediately upon being placed in secluded room D-1756 begins banging head on door but ceases when it is realizing no effect is being made. D-1756 is seen observing cell presumably for a possible exit, after thorough observation of cell is complete D-1756 begins to scream and ram head against door. D-1756 seems to show no sign of pain or thought toward any other action than getting to SCP-5440. It is not known if SCP-5440 is controlling D-1756's actions or if they are directly influenced by sight of SCP. Upon realization that escape is impossible D-1756 claws at both wrists making massive lacerations with nails. It is reported by on sight personal that during D-1756's suicide SCP-5440 excreted a large amount of its usual dark viscous fluid.
