Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a standard anomalous object locker. Testing is restricted to personnel with Level-2 clearance.

Description: SCP-XXXX refers to a 213cm x 60cm (83.86in x 23.6in) glass door. SCP-XXXX is composed by a 5cm (1.97in) thick aluminium frame surrounding a plate of clear glass. SCP-XXXX possesses a stainless steel pull handle and the average lock mechanism found in similar doors. A key to lock SCP-XXXX was not found upon recovery. A “PULL” and “PUSH” sticker has been pasted on one side of SCP-XXXX.

SCP-XXXX’s anomalous properties manifest when installed on a door frame, regardless of if the door frame itself is part of a structure. Sapient life forms which go through SCP-XXXX will dematerialize and SCP-XXXX will close and lock itself behind them. At this point, it will be impossible to open SCP-XXXX, even with duplicate keys.

The interior of SCP-XXXX looks like a diner, populated by seemingly human entities eating on the tables and working as waitresses or in the kitchen. It is possible to see a desert and an empty road through the the diner’s windows, however trying to exit the diner through any means will result on the subject finding themselves once again in the diner, or possibly another instance of it as any damage the subject has done to the building will be reversed.

Approximately 2 minutes after the subjects enters SCP-XXXX a black van will drive down the road visible outside of the diner at a speed of approximately 10 km/h (6.21 m/h). Then van will stop once directly in front of the diner, and an entity resembling an old bearded man in a suit (From now referred to as SCP-XXXX-1) will come out of the back door. It is impossible to determine if the van is being driven by another entity, as the heavily tinted windows do not allow subjects to see inside of it from the distance they are able to see it from.

SCP-XXXX will start walking towards the diner, starting at a speed of approximately 0.8 km/h (0.5 m/h) but slowly increasing in speed as they get closer until reaching an average human walking speed. SCP-XXXX-1 will then proceed to open to enter the diner through the main door and approach the subject.

Subjects report that SCP-XXXX-1 is generally friendly. SCP-XXXX-1 will start talking with the subject about a variety of topic such as his home life, job and weather. The duration of this initial talk is determined by how much interest the subject shows in the topics being discussed. At any point in the conversation, SCP-XXXX will offer the subject the chance of a new beginning. SCP-XXXX-1 will then explain that if the subject accepts his offer they’d never be able to go back to the place they came from. If a subject denies the offer, SCP-XXXX will instruct the subject to go through the main door. SCP-XXXX will spontaneously open and the subject will reemerge in the same place they initially entered. It is unknown what happens to subjects who accept SCP-XXXX-1’s offer.

D-4578 was sent into SCP-XXXX with an audio and video recording device.

[Static]

[Video signal re-established. D-4578 is in the diner.]

D-4578: Woah. What the fuck! Where am i?

[D-4578 attempts to go back through the door.]

D-4578: Yo guys, you wouldn’t believe what’s…

[Static]

[D-4578 is once again in the diner.]

D-4578: Ok, that was…weird.

[D-4578 attempts to repeatedly go through the door. All attempts result in the video cutting to static and then back to the inside of the diner. ]

[D-4578 gives up and goes on to sit in a stool next to the diner’s counter.]

D-4578: Hey how do i get outta here?

Waitress: Well last time i checked you had to use the door honey.

D-4578: I know that, but … forget about it.

Waitress: Looks like you’ve been out in the desert sun too long. Maybe you need some food in your belly.

[Waitress hands D-4578 a menu. D-4578 reads the menu but appears uneasy and keeps looking around him. Eventually he notices a black van parked on the road and SCP-XXXX-1 walking towards the diner.]

Waitress: Decided what you’re gonna eat?

D-4578: Uh, yeah. An All American breakfast and orange juice please.

[D-4578 keeps looking at SCP-XXXX-1 walking towards the diner until he eventually enters through the door.]

D-4578: Excuse me how did you do that? Go through the door i mean.

SCP-XXXX-1: Oh that, i … i guess you have many questions uh?

D-4578: Sure as fuck i do, those bastards at the Foundation sent me through a door and then i’m here and i’m trapped in some sort of loop.

SCP-XXXX-1: Oh another one from the Foundation.

[SCP-XXXX-1 sits on the stool next to D-4578.]

D-4578: Yeah, you know about it?

SCP-XXXX-1: Not really. Nobody had used this gateway in what…20 years maybe? Then two guys come in, less than a week apart, and they’re both talking about this Foundation that sent them in. Now you come talking about the same damn Foundation and i’ve got no idea what you’re talking about.

D-4578: Well, i don’t know much either, i just know they deal with some seriously weird stuff.

SCP-XXXX-1: Sounds exciting, unlike me who is stuck in an office job. My coworkers always tell me i’m lucky ‘cause i have a beautiful wife and my son and my daughter but sometimes i wonder if there’s something else to all of this.

D-4578: Not to sound like your coworkers but that sounds like a pretty good deal you’ve got going on. You have your family with you and they’re happy and healthy, i hope.

SCP-XXXX-1: I know, and it’s not like i don’t love them. I love them to bits but, everything else is not what i imagined myself doing with my life.

Waitress: Here’s your breakfast, enjoy.

[The waitress puts a tray of food in front of D-4578]

SCP-XXXX-1: That looks good. Maybe i’ll get some myself for the way back. Anyways, sorry to talk to you while you’re about to eat but i gotta make you an offer.

D-4578: An offer? What kind offer?

SCP-XXXX-1: A new beginning. You will be able to start from scratch, all your previous choices won’t matter. The only condition is that you’ll never be able to return to where you came from again. I also want to be very clear about something, i don’t necessarily offer you a better life than what you currently have, just a fresh slate that you will be able to do whatever you want with.

D-4578: A new beginning? That sounds….tempting, given my situation, but….there’s this girl, in the place where i come from. She is…was my soulmate, i hurt her…really badly. I was supposed to go to deathrow but then the Foundation got to me before that. I hope that maybe, if i cooperate with them, they’ll let me go, and they’ll let me see her again, so i can i’m sorry.

SCP-XXXX-1: I understand.

D-4578: And it’s not like i don’t want a fresh start. Hell, it’s all i’ve wanted for the last couple years but, i don’t wanna go before seeing her once again.

SCP-XXXX-1: There’s no problem. Go and talk with her, and when you’re ready, i’ll still be here. Well, not here, i’ll have to come and….you know what i mean.

D-4578: Thank you, i really appreciate it.

SCP-XXXX-1: Well, when you’re ready to go you can leave through the door, it’ll work this time. You can stay here as long as you want. Maybe finish your meal before going back, and don’t worry, the food’s on me.

[SCP-XXXX-1 leaves the diner and walks back to the black van, walking progressively slower as he goes on.]

[D-4578 finishes his food and leaves through the door.]

[Static.]

[D-4578 reemerges on testing site.]
