Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: All containment facilities are required to install and maintain a 20x20x10 meter sealed room hardened against electromagnetic interference and buried no less than 250 meters below ground. Inner wall are to be line with radio absorbing materials. All electronic equipment and wiring is to be shielded against electromagnetic interference. Testing equipment and workstations are to be housed inside a faraday cage measuring 3x3x3 meter in size, with holes no wider than 2mm. Lighting is to be provided by a fiber optic day lighting system. Personnel entering this room are to remove all electronic devices and metallic jewelry before entering. Personnel who are equipped with subcutaneous devices such as RFID chips or pacemakers are not to be allowed within the testing area. Testing station must be equipped with a broad spectrum FM receiver, capable of monitoring frequencies between 3Hz and 3000 Ghz, be equipped with remote monitoring and management and posses solid state recording capabilities. Recieving antennas and transmission lines are to be placed as to minimize instances of signal crosstalk. All power supplies must be isolated and filtered to minimize harmonic frequency interference.
Monitoring of SCP-XXXX is limited to research personnel with level 4 security clearance. Active listening to live or recorded broadcasts from SCP-XXXX should be performed by D-Class personnel in 6 hour shifts, and should immediately be questioned by an assigned researcher accompanied by no less than two security guards. Amnestics are to be administered once interview is completed. All recordings of SCP-XXXX are to be designated SCP-XXXX-1 and must be date coded and archived at Site-15 for analysis and investigation.
Any change of frequency of SCP-XXXX is to be immediately reported to site director. Should a frequency change occur before D-Class subject has spent 6 hours listening the a live broadcast, playback of recorded broadcast should commence and interview process begin as soon as possible. Should D-Class personnel be unavailable in such an event, site director may select a suitable candidate from non-essential personnel.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a faint, non-local electromagnetic anomaly, manifesting between 3Hz and 3000Ghz, capable of changing frequencies at seemingly random intervals. Instances of SCP-XXXX have been detected all over the world. Attempts to counteract or triangulate have failed. SEE TESTING LOGS.
Detection of SCP-XXXX is strenuous, caused primarily by the relatively weak signal to noise ratio, background radiation and ambiant electromagnetic interference (EMI) of nearby sources. All steps must be taken to minimize unwanted background interference and enhance chances of detection, identification and analysis. Changes in frequency have been linked to creation of new SCPs, and have been shown to coincide with major SCP reality altering events. At this time, it is believed that SCP-XXXX is not the source of these events or other SCPs, but rather a resonant field triggered by instabilities in reality caused by the events mentioned above.
Initial discovery occurred on ██/██/20██ during investigation and recovery of [REDACTED]. Monitoring and recording of the VHF radio spectrum (from 30-300Mhz) were made in an attempt to communicate with the creature. Due to a clerical error, a mislabeled recording with "white noise" was submitted to Site-15's supercomputer for pattern recognition analysis. When questioned, the research assistant assigned to the task reported distinctively hearing something that warranted further investigation. SEE INTERVIEW TRANSCRIPTS.
Exposure to live broadcasts of SCP-XXXX or recorded instances of SCP-XXXX-01 will cause general unease, disorientation and aversion in tested subjects. Subjects exposed to live or recorded broadcasts will, within a time frame of 4 to 6 hours, begin to feels it's memetic effect, gaining bits of knowledge about the event in question. Note that no specific information is gained, with subjects often reporting "gut feelings" and "flashes" of places, items or people they have never been in contact with.
Addendum: It has been brought to the attention of the O5 council that recordings of SCP-XXXX-1 could somehow make their way into the general public following a "pratical joke" that occurred at Site-45, where a recording of SCP-XXXX-1 was played alongside internal entertainment broadcasts for off-duty personnel. The panic that ensued can not be allowed to happen in the general population. Therefore, all instances of SCP-XXXX-1 must not be duplicated and immediately sent to Site-15 for archival. Removal from archive requires level 5 clearance and is limited strictly for analysis purposes.
"Listen, we know it can get boring at the bottom of the sea, especially when there are no interventions requiring MTF team deployments. But the last thing anyone wants is having to convince a whole city of panicked citizens, some of them armed and scared, and the media coverage that is sure to follow, that the event never happened. We've administered mass amnestics before, but the resources necessary for containment can be better allocated. For example, a portion of those funds could go towards new entertainment facilities at Site-45." -O5 council memo excerpt to all Site-45 personnel.
