Scp-XXXX
Class: Euclid
Special containment procedure:
Scp-XXXX is to be kept inside a glass display case. The edges of the glass are to be secured using an electrically-charged metal frame, or any other method to create an electromagnetic field around SCP-XXXX. If, at any time, the item were to start glowing crimson/red, all staff should cover the case in any opaque material, preferably with [DATA REDACTED], to avoid prolonged exposure. If any personnel receives 8 minutes, or more, of exposure to SCP-XXXX during its 'reddened state', they should go to the medical wing within the hour.
Description:
SCP-XXXX is a black, wooden staff of 1.38 meters from top to bottom, or just over 4.5 feet, and the staff-pole has a diameter of 3.31 centimeters, or 1.3 inches. Through analysis, it has been concluded that there is no special quality in the wood, and that the wood is merely stained to appear deep black. At the top, secured in place by a three part cage of sorts, rests an ornate orb with a diameter of 10.93 centimeters, or 4.3 inches. The orb is a near-perfect, scaled down version of the moon, with the 'back' being entirely black. The cage, function seen above, is made by the staff splitting into three distinct prongs that all converge at the top of the orb. This creates three openings, two of which have criss-crossing wooden strips, of the same color and material as the rest of the staff, going across them to block the orb from view. The third is an opening where the orb can be observed in its normal state. The orb on the top seems to autonomously rotate to match the phase of the moon, even when kept underground or the staff is exposed to [DATA REDACTED] that would disorient modern XXXXX XXXXXXX methods or devices. Material analysis of the orb has proved impossible.
SCP-XXXX has been shown to have a memetic and physiological effect on those directly exposed to SCP-XXXX without use of an electromagnetic barrier in place to disrupt this effect. This effect culminates in the physical transformation into a four-legged entity that appears of the genus "canis", now called SCP-XXXX-1. However, they retain some human like characteristics like the ability to move in a bipedal fashion and the use of ‘hands’ for tasks, as they choose. Any subjects who are undergoing this transformation will simultaneously undergo a transformation in brain chemistry, causing them to behave and, presumably, [DATA REDACTED]. This entire transformation takes approximately 28 days, and by observation is thought to be painless. Of note is SCP-XXXX-1s' unpredictable behavior, such as when being observed or undergoing [DATA REDACTED] handled by several D-class agents; however, instances of SCP-XXXX-1 tend towards docile behavior around people whom they interacted with—or possibly trusted—prior to transformation, indicating a possibility of having retained some higher brain function or XXXXX XXXXXXXXXXX. Test results thus far remain unclear. However, instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are quite dangerous and easy to provoke, as seen on numerous occasions. The number of incidents for any one year is averaged at [DATA REDACTED], at the time of writing, when the highest number of incidents happened in the year 198X.
If SCP-XXXX is in its 'reddened state', then the process is sped up to a mere 36 hours. The SCP must be covered by an opaque barrier that is capable of stopping [DATA REDACTED] to neutralize the effect; however the reason for this is unknown. This rapid transformation is thought to be quite painful, but it is unsure if this can be felt during the alteration of brain chemistry or not. To date, [DATA REDACTED] deaths have been caused, observed to be caused, or attributed to a ‘reddened state’ incident. It has been observed that when certain, currently unknown, criteria are met the subject will have minimal [DATA REDACTED] and will still retain their pre-exposure [DATA REDACTED]; this is known as an SCP-XXXX-2 instance. To date only XXX instance of SCP-XXXX-2 has been created.
SCP-XXXX was first discovered in XXXXXXXXXXX, in the province of Midday Pyrenees, France. It was found under an 11th century church, within a wooden box with [DATA REDACTED] written upon the cover. The majority of the phrases seem concurrent with XXXXXXXXX within the time period of [DATA REDACTED]. It was donated to a museum organization for display. Not long after, multiple pieces were stolen from the museum, including SCP-XXXX. The foundation was notified by local police when the robbers were discovered in a state of [DATA REDACTED] and with most XXXXXX XXXXX functions having been abandoned. This is thought to be due to a 'reddened state'.
THIS IS UNFINISHED BUT I WANT ADVICE IF ANYONE IS WILLING

The cage, function seen above, is made by the staff splitting into three distinct prongs that all converge at the top of the orb. This creates three openings, two of which have criss-crossing wooden strips, of the same color and material as the rest of the staff, going across them to block the orb from view. The orb on the top seems to autonomously rotate to match the phase of the moon, even when kept underground or the staff is exposed to forces that would disorient modern lunar tracking methods or devices. Any subjects who are undergoing this transformation will simultaneously undergo a transformation in brain chemistry, causing them to behave and, presumably, think like animals of that same genus. This entire transformation takes approximately 28 days, and by observation is thought to be painless. Of note is SCP-XXXX-1s' unpredictable behavior, such as when being observed or undergoing a routine checkup handled by several D-class agents. They tend towards docile behavior around people whom they interacted with—or possibly trusted—prior to transformation, indicating a possibility of having retained some higher brain functions or facial recognition. Test results thus far remain unclear. However, instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are quite dangerous and easy to provoke, as seen on numerous occasions. The number of incidents for any one year is averaged at 23, at the time of writing, where the highest number of incidents happened in the year 1983.
If SCP-XXXX is in its 'reddened state', then the process is sped up to a mere 36 hours. The SCP must be covered by an opaque barrier that is capable of stopping beta particles to neutralize the effect; however the reason for this is unknown. This rapid transformation is thought to be quite painful, but it is unsure if this can be felt during the alteration of brain chemistry or not. To date, 18 deaths have been caused, observed to be caused, or attributed to a ‘reddened state’ incident. It has been observed that when certain, currently unknown, criteria are met the subject will have minimal brain transformation and will still retain their pre-exposure personality and IQ; this is known as an SCP-XXXX-2 instance. To date only one instance of SCP-XXXX-2 has been created.
SCP-XXXX was first discovered in (CITY NAME HERE), in the province of Midday Pyrenees, France. It was found under an 11th century church, within a wooden box with prayers and phrases written upon the cover. The majority of the phrases seem concurrent with exorcisms within the time period of the Franco-Catholic witch hunts. It was donated to a museum organization for display. Not long after, multiple pieces were stolen from the museum, including SCP-XXXX. The foundation was notified by local police when the robbers were discovered in a state of partial transformation and with most higher brain functions having been abandoned. This is thought to be due to a 'reddened state' activation.
