Special Containment Procedures: 5170 has proven beyond difficult to contain, though this has not been an issue due to it being a means of containing sentient and/or sapient anomalies.
Description: SCP-5170 is composed of 3 components, labeled 5170-1, 5170-2, and 5170-3.
5170-1 is a coffin made of obsidian, 5170-1 is indestructible. 5170-1 is exactly 4 meters in length, 1 meter in width, and has a depth of 750 centimeters.
5170-2 is an entity always perceived as a silhouette approximately 3 meters tall with its only facial features being large white discs (presumed to be eyes) and a series of markings that somewhat resemble a spiked grin. 5170-2 is able to take control of all neurological functions of any sapient or sentient life within half a kilometer, while controlling another entity in this manner, that entity will be referred to as 'host'. While in control of neurological functions, the host's brain will enter a short period of stasis until 72 hours after 5170-2 has taken a new host. The transfer to another host is instant and there has been no clear means as to stopping this from occurring. After the host leaves this period of stasis, 5170-3 will manifest, it is assumed that the 72-hour period of stasis is how long 5170-3 takes to completely form but this is still one of the many unknowns about 5170. While they are separate entities, 5170-2 and 5170-3 are a hive mind of sorts, with 5170-2 being the apparent leader of said hive mind. There have been several attempts at killing 5170-2 though conventional weapons have not worked on it, prolonged exposure to deadly environments has only managed to make it disappear and reform inside 5170-1 instantly.
5170-3 takes form inside a person's neurological system, those who have manifested 5170-3 are hereby referred to as 'afflicted'. 5170-3 feeds on the afflicted's thoughts and harvests information based on it, transmitting all this information to 5170-2.
The general nature of 5170-2 is always manipulative, and the exponential growth of it's intellect is extremely dangerous to the world. This is why the Foundation has decided to allow it to harvest information, but only from groups of interest harmful to the Foundation or hostile anomalies. While this action may seem rash, it is a desperate act in order to prevent it from causing a SK-Class dominance shift scenario in which 5170-2, spreads 5170-3 to the world while simultaneously causing a Broken Masquerade incident if the Foundation attempts to stop it.

5170-2: Good evening, would you mind me asking your name?
Interviewer: My name is Dr.███████, I will be interviewing you today SCP-5170-2
Foreword: This interview was performed in order to gain a better understanding of the creation of 5170

Interviewer: So, 5170-2, how were you born, or created, if you can remember this information.
5170-2: I do not remember the process in which I was created, though I can tell you the being that conceived me.
Interviewer Please state this information
<2 hours of silence before the interviewer was permitted to inform 5170-2 the motives of the SCP Foundation>
Interviewer I am a researcher at the SCP Foundation, we work to contain anomalies in order to protect the general public. If you're so desperate for more information on us, SCP stands for Secure, Contain, Protect, our motto.
5170-2 That explains why I'm here. You wouldn't exactly consider me normal in comparison to basically anything on this planet.
Interviewer Alright, I gave you information on the Foundation, now tell us, how were you first created, born, whatever, and what is your purpose since you seem so obsessed with it.
5170-2 While I am unaware of the means regarding my birth or creation, the entity that created me was kind and forgiving. It made me to help this world, though I have become corrupt, infecting all I cure with a parasite [by this referring to 5170-3]. My creator's true name I cannot speak, though the closest thing to it's meaning would be the word 'forevermore'. My purpose was to help cure those ailed with their own thoughts, anxiety, depression, longing, they came to me and I took that weight off their shoulders. Hell, I could even cure neurological diseases. It used to be wonderful, helping the world. I've become corrupt since then, now looking like a creepy silhouette.
