High Voltage Eels
Item #: SCP-X
Object class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures
SCP-X-A through E are to be contained in individual aquarium tanks measuring 2x2x2 meters, each of which are to be filled with water posessing the same mineralic content of the seawater 9,785 meters into the Mariana's Trench.
The tanks in turn shall be housed within a lead and aluminium shielded chamber, at at least 50 meters distance from any electrical devices or metallic objects.
Water and nutrients are provided through remote pumps, all lighting in the chamber is chemoluminescent.
Under no circumstances are male and female specimens to interact.
Description
SCP-X-A through E are the individual designations given to the three male and to female specimens of SCP-X.
On first glance SCP-X instances are almost indistinguishable from regular Electrophorus electricus, better known as Electric Eels, apart from their smaller length of at most about 1 meter. However, this variation seems to inhabit the depths of the Mariana's Trench, rather than their cousins which are usually found in South American sweet waters.
The five instances were recovered by Mobile Task Force Gamma-6 "Deep Feeders" on ██/██/199█ following multiple reports of cargo ship's electronics failing near the trench. These malfunctions are confirmend to result from SCP-X's anomalous effect, consisting of their potential to generate electric fields with an intensity of about 250 microteslas. This is the maximum strength measured at the time of recovery, although the theoretical maximum intensity may lay higher.
Due to their ability to generate extremely strong electromagnetic fields, SCP-X instances not only pose a threat to personnel, but especially to critical Foundation equipment such as containment systems.
Such an event would only occur when at least 11 instances were within 20 meters of each other, as the field strength exponentially increases with an increase of nearby instances. Hence the reason why it is of utmost priority that the instances do not multiply.
