Item #: SCP-5546
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5546, nicknamed “Squishy” by staff, is to be kept in a standard 40x40m concrete containment cell, with the addition of a 10x10x10m excavation filled with saltwater, which is to be emptied and refilled once a week. The walls, floor, and ceiling of the cell must be cleaned at least once every three days to prevent mucus build-up.
SCP-5546 requires nutritional sustenance, and must be fed with plants rich in Calcium, Magnesium, Sodium Chloride, and Alginic acid in order to maintain proper nutrition. Brown Seaweed has proven to be effective in satiating SCP-5546s’ appetite, which can be used as “reward” for compliance with Foundation Personnel.
In addition, as a reward for a prolonged period of acceptable interaction with personnel, SCP 5546 can be temporarily relocated to artificial marine environment No.[REDACTED] for approximately two to three hours.
Description: SCP-5546 is a mollusc-like aquatic creature. It’s body is completely round, weighs approximately 15 kilograms, and is magenta in colouring with some minor bioluminescent qualities. It’s body is covered with small tentacle-like appendages, which show limited prehensile function. These tentacles secrete a viscous mucus with strong adhesive properties, which allows it to stick to surfaces at will. SPC-5546 has an orifice in the center of its body mass though which it consumes nutritional sustenance, and also defactates waste substances. SCP-5546 possesses simple musculature, which enables it to have some degree of mobility.
Whilst it lacks grey matter, MRI scans have shown it to have nerve clusters, which show some synaptic activity. Further scans have shown SCP-5546 to be capable of limited communication and memory recall, but is not intelligent enough to be considered sentient, this has been confirmed with the ethics committee, but is subject to change pending further investigation.
Addendum 5546.1: SCP 5546’s “adhesive”, which henceforth will be referred to as “SCP-5546-1” possesses notable adhesive properties. This was observed after an attempt to remove SCP-5546 from the wall of it’s containment cell by personnel C [REDACTED] caused them both become affixed to the wall. Dr Hext has requested further experiments be conducted with SCP 5546-1. In order to facilitate this, samples of SCP 5546-1 will be collected from SCP 5546’s containment cell once a day.
Addendum 5546.2: Whilst SCP 5546 is one of the less hostile SCP’s contained at Site [REDACTED], it is still an SCP, it is not a pet, nor a toy. It should be treated as such. Disciplinary action will be taken with personnel who breach 5546’s containment, or feed it non-approved foodstuffs. That said, interaction with SCP 5546 with express permission from a Site Administrator is allowed.
Test Log - Dr Hext
Test 1 - 8/7/04
Subject: A large brick of cement, weighing 20kg, SCP-5546-1
Procedure: SCP-5546-1 will be applied to one side of the brick, which will then be lifted and affixed to the ceiling, it will then be left there for 72 hours, monitored by D [REDACTED] and D [REACTED].
Results: The brick remained affixed to the ceiling for the full 72 hour period, it was decided to see how long the brick would stay up. At approximately 109 hours, 23 minutes, and 8 seconds, a small fracture appeared in the ceiling. This fracture continued to widen, until the brick fell to the ground, taking a portion of the ceiling with it at 110 hours, 34 minutes, and 45 seconds.
Analysis: SCP-5546-1 possesses strong adhesive qualities, when it hardens it can be a very strong material. Further experiments are to be conducted.
Test B - 8/15/04
Subject: The brick of cement, sample of SCP-5546, and portion of ceiling used in Test A. Which will henceforth be referred to as “SCP-5546-2”
Procedure: The cement brick will be removed from SCP-5546-2. Then a sizable sample of SCP-5546-1 will be applied to the edges of SCP-5546-2, which will then be attached to the hole in the ceiling. After SCP-5546-1 has solidified (approx 20 minutes), SCP-5546-1 will be applied to a different 20kg cement brick, and then said brick will be attached to the ceiling.
Results: The cement brick did not fall, nor did the ceiling collapse after 72 hours, nor did it after 120 hours, or 200, after two months, no change in the condition of the ceiling has been observed.
Analysis: SCP-5546-1 has strong adhesive properties, after further chemical analysis and testing, it could be used as a construction material. Form [REDACTED] has been submitted to Site Administrator Javid, recommending further use of SCP 5546-1 within Site [REDACTED] construction projects.
