Special Containment Procedures: Despite the object being known by many people across the globe it has not received the classification of a Cracked Veil anomaly. This is because the foundation is the only group with the knowledge of it's anomalous properties. There were plans to build a 15 metre tall by 3 metre thick reinforced concrete wall around the perimeter of SCP-XXXX. However due to new research done by the foundation's researchers the 05-Council have voted that all efforts surrounding SCP-XXXX are to be focused into attempting to preserve the entity and/or to learn as much as possible from the entity before it expires. Additionally such a wall would certainty attract further attention to the entity and risk revealing it to the world. Anyone found to have discovered the truth about SCP-XXXX should have class D anaesthetics administered and be debriefed before being allowed to leave the site.
Description: SCP-XXXX- is a single male populous tremuloides (or quaking aspen) that weighs almost 6 million kilograms and takes up approximately 0.43 square kilometres of land . From the outside it looks as though there are hundreds of the trees , however they have all been determined to be 1 entity connected by the roots (this was understood through genetic markers). The tree appears to be around 88,000 years old. This would make it the oldest non-anomalous living thing on earth. That is the extent that the public knows about this SCP.
Discovery: SCP-XXXX was first discovered by the foundation when it was noticed that many hikers and tourists going to visit the trees reported the ground "feeling as though there was a beat beneath them". When the foundation came researchers discovered that each tree was connected to each over in a very similar way to how brain cells are connected to each over. A study a few months later found that there were electrical impulses being sent between the connections. It was around this time that a theory was thought of , that if somehow we could read the electrical signals being sent between each tree then we could "read the tree's thoughts." In the year ████ the foundation successfully created a device capable of doing this very thing and they linked one up to every connection (around ███ trillion) and connected it all up to a computer capable of running all of it at the same time. However it took another 5 years in order to create an algorithm capable of decrypting, during this time psychologist Dr ████ was assigned the task of understanding how the tree thought. After it was eventually constructed the foundation learned the truth about SCP-XXXX- , that it'd been collecting data for a majority of its lifespan and knowledge of the universe vastly beyond what a simple tree should know. Because of this SCP-XXXX- was given the Thaumiel class and only foundation members with level 5 clearance can be allowed to come into contact with the computer or hardrives used in collecting data from SCP-XXXX-. In the time since activation the machine has gathered around ██ GBs of information from the entity, with only █MBs being decoded. It is important to understand that despite the technology being used only an estimated 0.0000248% of all thoughts the tree has had in this time have been recorded , due to the fact that the signals are almost always travelling too fast to be read. Some estimates suggest that the signals are being sent at around 350% faster than in a regular human brain. The information that has been retrieved from the specimen seems to be completely random . A few examples of data that has been recovered from SCP-XXXX include were where a person named Matthew had lost their shoes, the recipe to mango chutney and an old bus timetable dating back to the 1980s
Addendum 1 : Date :███ SCP-XXXX's neural activity seems to have slowed in the recent days. Foundation scientists have little understanding of how the entity has developed to the anomalous flora that it is. Because of this they do not know if this sudden change is a threat to SCP-XXXX. Further observation is required in order to understand why this has happened
Addendum 2 : Date : December 28th ███ Since the beginning of December, SCP-XXXX's thoughts seem to have turned more to the religious holidays surrounding the winter season, a few examples of this being Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza and Yule as well as a few others. It should be noted that the thoughts of the tree became clearer and calmer around this time. Another interesting idea that has been thought of is that, if this entity is really 88,000 years old, then it should have knowledge of the origins behind every single modern religion including Hinduism , which is the oldest religion in the world. Because of this records from this time have been grouped together and have been given priority over other files taken before it.
Addendum 3 : Date : ███ : 5 days ago signals being sent between pathways connecting the trees began to rise at an incredibly fast rate eventually reaching 500% higher than its normal rate. Approximately 30 minutes later the rate began to drop to around 50% of it's normal rate. 3 hours later the rate rose again to around the same level as last time it rose.
Addendum 4 : Recent research surrounding SCP-XXXX has revealed the tree to be dying, more research is required to understand why and when the tree will expire however one thing is clear, that the foundation must attempt to understand as much as they can before the SCP becomes neutralised. Civilian scientist have been told that it is a by-product of human tampering and access to the area has been restricted in order to allow foundation researchers full access to the area.
