Dr John Silver - First Entity Pitch

Seeking Greenlights: Yes

Page Type: SCP Article

Genre (Optional): Introductory SCP

Elevator Pitch: A group of 7 Male Mongolian Wolves which are perfectly identical replicas with one another. They display an extremely high level of intelligence and operate as one united entity, showing themselves to be capable of moving in perfect synchrony. Euclid Class. I think this would be a great introductory SCP. It has an easy to understand premise and the SCP itself is a creature that has wide appeal (Everyone loves wolves!) It is my opinion that these would provide an excellent jumping off point for new readers and provide a fresh outlook on the foundation for more experienced reader. Tales of new recruits tracking and observing the SCP would give a refreshing take on what it is like to be working for the foundation that does not involve an entire squad of MTF’s getting wiped out. (that is not to say that that does not have an important place in the SCP universe, just to say that this offers a different perspective on some of the foundations operations) The concept also introduces new kinds of employees for the foundation. Foundation Zoologists and Game Wardens.

Central Narrative: The SCP itself offers no central narrative, but it represents an entity that can become a catalyst for stories that have new and old characters alike!

Hook/Attention-Grabber: The SCP is in my opinion a great example of a creature that we know just enough about to want to know more. We know what the SCP does but are still as to how how and why. The very design of the creature is a hook itself. It is an animal that everyone has experience with, but is infused with the supernatural, beckoning the reader dig deeper to uncover the truth

Additional Notes: This may sound like I am trying charm my way into getting recognized, (and make no mistake it absolutely is) just know that I truly appreciate not only the hard work you put into the SCP wiki but also your work on creating an wonderful community dedicated to cultivating a place on the internet for writers and readers alike. On the note of criticism: Be ruthless and hold nothing back. I want to improve myself as a writer and would absolutely love harsh and blunt criticism.

Rough Draft of a possible SCP page for the Entity:

SCP – 5485
Synchronized Mongolian Wolves
Euclid Class
Special Containment Procedures: Currently the pack of wolves is being left alone to roam the Mongolian plains. After a lengthy debate on the adverse effects containment had on both the entity and the local ecosystem the ethics committee ruled that they must be allowed to continue to exist in their natural habitat. Each one of the animals has been tagged and fitted with a radio tracking collar. Foundation game wardens are alerted if the pack is ever within a 30 km distance of any human settlement. Once alerted, that wardens are tasked with tracking down and relocating the pack through a process of tranquilizing the animals, loading them into a truck, and dropping them off at [REDACTED]. This area was observed to be the pack’s home location. This event is exceedingly rare. SCP 5485 will sometimes go years without triggering an alarm. It is recommended that any tests that need to be performed are done while SCP 5485 is sedated.
Note: When SCP 5485 triggers a proximity alarm, as part of a new training program aimed at getting fresh employees acclimated to the kind of work the SCP foundation does, it is strongly encouraged that the wardens take up to three new recruits of the SCP Foundation to go with them. This is a dangerous but relatively straightforward operation and provides an excellent learning opportunity on the kinds of field work they may encounter during their time at the SCP Foundation. This is all up to the discretion of the game wardens though and they have the final authority to ban any new personal accompanying them if they deem the current operation too dangerous.
Description: SCP 5485 is group consisting of 7 genetically identical male Mongolian wolves. These wolves display an extremely high level of intelligence compared to other members of their species. They also are notably larger than their counterparts, along with exhibiting more dexterity and strength then is otherwise normal. The creatures have exhibited the ability to move in perfect synchronization, but usually traverse as semi-individual entities. SCP 5485 also shows physical empathetic traits. When one any of the wolves experiences any physical force, the other entities react as though it had happened to them as well. This makes capture economical, as only one tranquilizer dart is required to bring the whole pack down.
They have never been observed near another one of their species and all attempts to get them to initiate contact with one of their kin have been futile. It seems the pack seems to know where the individual is and go to great lengths to avoid encounters with them. It is still unclear as to why they do this.
Each individual has the exact same proportions which are as follows:
Total body length - 164 cm
Tail length - 43 cm
Hind foot length - 27 cm
Ear height - 15 cm
Shoulder height - 90 cm
Weight - 48 kg
Unlike other Mongolian wolves the entity has a much brighter pelt. Showing a light crisp brown with a brown gold underbelly instead of the usual tawny and white color scheme. Tests coupled with observation prove that without a shadow of a doubt they are a part of the Canis lupus chanco subspecies of grey wolf.
SCP 5485 is an extraordinary hunter displaying ingenious tactics when tracking and killing pray. It has even showed an ability for tool usage, similar to some primates save their lack of opposable thumbs. The SCP has been observed storing pray in pits it dug, being able to remember where it was hidden weeks later and coming back to the site to consume the meat. It has also shown the ability to cover its own tracks, though its reason for doing so is still unclear. SCP 5485 have never been observed making a noise of its own. No barks, snarls or howls. Diagnostics show that the creature’s vocal cords are all in working condition so it can be assumed that it has the ability to, but simply chooses not to use it. It has not been observed interacting with any other entity besides its prey. It seems to avoid contact with any other creature at all costs. We have not been able to identify how old the creature is but based on local legend its possible SCP 5485 could predate Kublai Khan, as they are referenced as to appearing about the same time Genghis Khan started his conquest.
The entity was first brought to the foundation’s attention in 2008 when shepherds who were near Khyargas Lake started on mass reporting wolf attacks on their livestock. The livestock being killed where some of the biggest and strongest in the herd. This is uncharacteristic of wolves as they usually target the most vulnerable of the group (Young, Old, Sick etc.). These livestock attacks were later confirmed to all be caused by SCP 5485. All efforts these shepherds organized in an attempt to capture or kill the SCP ended in failure. The entity never initiated any kind of contact with the citizens, instead choosing to evade and outwit the would-be hunters. The effected citizens appealed to local law enforcement to help them in combating these livestock killings. Government intervention also proved fruitless. The SCP 5485 seemed to either have knowledge on where the hunters were or were able to anticipate their locations by using its own intellect. Danzin Ivaan, a foundation zoologist who was stationed near the area caught wind of this phenomenon and contacted the foundation about SCP 5485.
Two foundation game wardens; Agent [REDACTED] and Agent [REDACTED] were dispatched to the region and through the use of satellite imagery where able to locate SCP 5485’s home location at [REDACTED]. The Agents made quick work on tracking down and tagging the entity.
History: Interviews with locals of the area reveals that the entity may have been present in the region for quite some time. Some locals believe it to be spirits sent by Tengri to watch over the dogs of Mongolia. Others say these were wolves loyal to the Great Khan, and would ride into battle with the Mongolian army.
